INTRODUCTION
Each module will give you the opportunity to interact with other managers across the organisation, learn new management tools and techniques, as well as the opportunity to transfer these skills into the workplace to help improve performance.
The Management Essentials programme has been designed to support existing and aspiring managers to confidently manage teams in delivering high levels of service excellence and performance.
With a new, updated flexible programme for 2023, you can drive your development journey with Management Essentials, choosing the order in which you complete the modules.
We all have busy schedules and to support you to incorporate this programme around the demands of your role and to access the content with ease, the modules have been designed as bitesize, blended learning delivered through a variety of ways including online learning, facilitated workshops and work based activities.

Each module will cover key skills and knowledge that are essential for effectively leading teams and can be completed in any order.
THE MODULES MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES
The module introduces and considers the fundamental knowledge, skills and behaviours relating to effective management, in any organisation. During this module, we’ll discuss the importance of, and a managers influence on, strategy, communication, culture and ethics as well as key techniques for managing yourself and your time.
SELF AWARENESS & PERSONAL IMPACT
This module aims to provide managers with the opportunity to develop an awareness of their impact as a manager. Looking into self-awareness, unconscious bias, emotional intelligence and inclusivity and how to apply the appropriate knowledge and skills to be effective within a management role.
COMMUNICATION & ENGAGEMENT
Within this module we’ll explore key components to effective communication and team engagement, including how to be assertive, skills and techniques for approaching sensitive or difficult conversations and the foundations for team motivation and engagement.
MANAGEMENT SKILLS
Within this module you will develop a deeper understanding of the aspects required to effectively manage people, including the fundamentals of good teamwork, setting targets, regular staff reviews, coaching skills and providing appropriate feedback to your teams.
WELLBEING IN THE WORKPLACE
At Norse Group we are committed to fostering and promoting employee wellbeing. This classroom session has been designed to support you to understand workplace wellbeing and how to have supportive and effective wellbeing conversations.
OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
As part of this module you will need to spend some time with your manager to develop a clear understanding of the measures and metrics that underpin the service delivery and performance for your function.
CHANGE & INNOVATION
As a manager it is important that you can effectively lead your team through change, communicating, supporting and engaging with your team to make any transition as smooth one. Innovation is key to an organisation’s ongoing success and, by definition, involves change. This module explores various ways to lead innovation, along with how to implement change via a system of continuous improvement.
JOIN THE PROGRAMME TODAY
The first step to accessing the programme is by completing the registration and self assessment on the programme topic areas.
The assessment will then be sent to your manager by email, where they will be prompted to add their own assessment.
This will register your interest with our team who will review the answers and confirm your enrolment on the programme.
WHERE DO I FIND THE REGISTRATION AND SELF-ASSESSMENT?
This will depend on the learning platform that you use.
LEARNING HIVE USERS
From the homepage, click in to the Leadership & Management collection in ‘Our Library’. In this list you will find Management Essentials, click this icon and you will be able to access the Registration form.
APOLLO USERS
Search for Management Essentials in courses, here you will find the link to the registration form. Once this has been completed and you have been enrolled on to the programme, you will be set up with an account for Learning Hive to access the online learning materials and book on to the workshops.
HOW DO I COMPLETE THE MODULES?
This is a flexible programme where you can choose which modules you would like to access and when. Our workshops will be delivered on set dates and you can view the schedule of courses from the main Management Essentials page.
The modules are made up of a mixture of activities, each module will include a facilitated workshop and most modules will also include online learning activities.
ONLINE LEARNING ACTIVITIES
We recommend that you complete the online learning modules prior to attending the facilitated workshops, as they will give you an introduction to the concepts and themes discussed. However, we appreciate that with busy schedules, this may not always be possible and you will not be at a disadvantage if you have not been able to.
FACILITATED WORKSHOPS
You can view and book on to the available dates by clicking into the workshop through Learning Hive. Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email and a placeholder for your calendar.
If you need to cancel your booking you will need to notify us as soon as possible. Cancellations within 10 days of the workshop date will be subject to a cancellation charge to your department.
In order for workshops to be financially viable, workshops will be cancelled if we do not reach a minimum number of bookings two weeks prior to the workshop date. You will be notified by email and advised to book on to an alternative date.
