Role Overview

Title: Commercial Director (Strategy and Growth)

Package: Up to £85,000 depending on experience

Working Pattern: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Location: This role is an agile post and will be assigned to the nearest Norse Group office

Role Purpose

The Commercial Director of Strategy and Growth plays a pivotal role in driving the company’s strategic objectives, ensuring commercial success, and leading on growth initiatives.

In collaboration with the Operational leads and the Head of Finance, this position is responsible for leading the commercial elements of business development, optimising bid processes, and ensuring the commercial health of projects. The individual will provide leadership in setting fee scales and pricing strategy. In addition, market positioning and performance analysis ensuring alignment with the company’s overall vision.

Additionally, they will ensure that the business's commercial delivery is consistent, analyse results to identify trends and performance insights, and provide actionable commercial recommendations to drive sustained growth and profitability.

The interview process will be defined in full with the selected candidates and this will involve a two-stage process.

If you are shortlisted for interview, you will be asked to provide original documentation pertaining to your entitlement to work in the UK in line with a list of acceptable documents which will be provided during the interview process.

As part of the interview process candidates will be asked to complete a psychometric test, this measures things like personality, aptitude and general intelligence. In addition to this we also will ask candidates to create and deliver a presentation - further details of this will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

 Collaborate with the Operations team to establish revenue targets, growth forecasts, delivery margins and market positioning strategies.

 Identify and capitalise on market opportunities, supporting the commercial delivery of the building of new partnerships and expanding existing client relationships.

Commercial Management

 Lead the preparation of commercial bid pricing, ensuring competitive, accurate, and profitable submissions.

 Oversee fee bid processes, ensuring competitive and profitable fee levels are submitted and review project delivery against targets to ensure commercial success is achieved.

Project Performance Review

 Collaborate with local SMT’s to ensure project teams are managing the financial health and profitability of projects addressing variances proactively.

 Develop dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to commercial performance.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

 Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing commercial team, driving consistencies across companies, while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

 Collaborate with consulting business development colleagues to ensure alignment of business development with commercially viable opportunities.

Market and Industry Analysis

 Provide insights and recommendations on emerging opportunities, pricing trends, and market demands.

 Ensure that knowledge is kept current on public sector political challenges and reflect this in the consulting business strategy.

Compliance and Governance

 Ensure good governance on intercompany working by implementing policies and processes that promote transparency, accountability, and alignment across all internal divisions

 Act as a focus point for the review of extensions of time requests on projects and oversee the governance around these.

Candidate Requirements

Key Competencies

 Strong understanding of design and engineering industry dynamics, including project delivery and lifecycle management.

 Exceptional skills in financial modelling, bid pricing, and commercial negotiation.

 Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and drive actionable insights.

 Excellent leadership and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.

 Proactive problem solver with strong decision-making abilities.

Qualifications and Experience

 Education: Bachelor's degree in a construction related discipline.

 Experience: Extensive experience in commercial leadership roles within the design, engineering, or related industries.

 Proven track record of preparing successful bids and managing project profitability.

 Experience in strategic planning, business development, and client relationship management.

 Familiarity with financial software and project management tools.

Performance Indicators

 Achievement of revenue and growth targets.

 Successful conversion rates on commercial bids and proposals.
