I could hardly believe it when I found out that I’d won, but once it sank in, I was absolutely thrilled and so honored! Normally, I travel to Florida once or twice a year to visit family, but thanks to my amazing win, I can now fly my family to me!
I’ve already used some of my points to book a flight for my sister, so she can spend time with my kids while my husband and I enjoy a getaway. I’ve even booked flights for my kids, too! What I love most, though, is earning and redeeming points and I can’t wait to keep it going!

Jackson returns to her
‘home away from home’ for ‘JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS’
By Heather Turk
Last December, Janet Jackson returned to the Entertainment Capital of the World with an all-new residency, “JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS.” Staged inside the 5,000-person capacity Resorts World Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas, the must-see show features the five-time GRAMMY Award-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee performing her charttopping hits — like “Black Cat” and “Miss You Much” — as well as deep cuts from her decades-long career. Allegiant recently caught up with the pop music icon to not only talk about her current residency, but also her favorite memories of performing on the Las Vegas Strip when she was a kid.
First off, we are so excited to have you back in Las Vegas. I know “JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS” isn’t your first Las Vegas residency, so what made you want to do another residency in town?
I love doing residencies in Las Vegas. It’s so much easier than touring where you live out of your suitcase. You don’t really ever get any rest when you are on a tour going from city to city, country to country, doing two shows on, a day off or three shows on, a day off. A Vegas residency makes life a lot easier on an artist. You just have to show up for work at 5 o’clock — or even later than that — and start getting ready for an 8, 8:30, 9 o’clock show. It makes performing a lot easier. What’s also fun about doing a Vegas residency is there are always other artists and other shows that you can see on your off days. Las Vegas is kind of a home away from home for me because that’s where I started. I enjoy it, so of course I’m going to come back if I’m asked.
For those who saw your previous residency at Park MGM in 2019, “Metamorphosis,” what’s new about “JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS?”
It’s a completely different show. The set list is different — there are selections and deep cuts and things that are strictly done for the fans — and it’s a completely different energy. The stage is different, the lighting is different, costumes are different. Everything is different about it. The content, the amount of dancers onstage — just the whole show is different.
Obviously, each fan has their own favorite song that they look forward to hearing you sing, but what’s your favorite song to perform live after all these years?
With this show, it’s “Go Deep.” I think where it comes in the show — with everything being so serious, just constantly one song after the next — it has a nice ease to it. It breaks the energy of the show in a really nice way, but yet there is still energy there because of the song and it’s fun. And the crowd sings along; I love that.
It’s such a treat to see you and your dancers perform some of Anthony Thomas’ original choreography during the show to songs like “Miss You Much” and “Rhythm Nation.” You make the dancing seem so effortless. What is your fitness routine like to keep your stamina up and prepare for a show like this?
We started working out six days a week — at least we try to. I started working out seriously with Dean [Lee], who is a big part of the show. He is onstage with me and one of the choreographers. And Tony [Martinez] has been my trainer for 28 years or so. We just got serious about it again and went at it — for the most part — hardcore, the way we used to back in the day. I always love a good diet, but to keep my stamina it is really about training and how you train. It’s not about training harder anymore, it’s about training smarter — as we’re becoming “seasoned,” as Tony calls it. He’s a wonderful trainer. He gets the job done.

Las Vegas is kind of a home away from home for me because that’s where I started.
During a recent performance you mentioned how you made your Las Vegas debut when you were just a kid alongside your siblings. Given your history with Las Vegas, what has been your favorite memory over the years?
I’ve had so many incredible memories being in Las Vegas — just being with my brothers and sisters alone and performing there, especially with Randy and Mike, and all the things we used to do. I think I mentioned in my documentary how we were at MGM [Grand] and we used to run up into the area where the lighting guys used to work the spotlight for the girls at “Jubilee!” and sit with them and watch the show. I loved doing that in between shows when I didn’t have to take a nap. The one thing I also loved so much was we used to live at Circus Circus — Mike, Randy and I — and we had such a good time playing there on our off days. That’s one thing my son loves to do with his cousins. They’ll go to Circus Circus and have a great time, and that warmed my heart that he loves it just as much as I did as when I was a kid. Lastly, at MGM Grand they used to have a candy shop. I used to walk by myself through the casino — which kids were not supposed to go through the casino, but I guess they allowed me to do so because I was working there — and go down to the candy shop and select lots of good candy for myself. Mother would
give me money, and I would get my candy and come back to the room. Those are my best memories of being in Las Vegas. It was so much fun as a kid. I have beautiful memories, very fond memories.
Being in this business as long as you have, what advice would you offer to those just starting out in the entertainment industry?
This industry is not for everybody. You have to really be prepared because it can be very cold, cut and dry, very shrewd, incredibly difficult and you can’t give up. Keep pushing forward. It’s not easy at all. It is very difficult. But at the same time, it can be very rewarding. You just have to brace yourself because, like I said, it is not for everyone.
Finally, when you aren’t performing onstage or working offstage, what do you like to do to relax or have fun?
I love being with my son. Being on an island somewhere on the beach enjoying the water, enjoying the sand, enjoying island life when we can — that’s what I like to do with my baby.
“JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS” returns to Resorts World Las Vegas select dates Sept. 10 through 20 for six performances. Show time is at 8:30 p.m. For tickets, visit rwlasvegas.com/ entertainment/janet-jackson
Carrot Top knows how to give audiences a fun night out
By Heather Turk
In February, longtime Luxor headliner Carrot Top celebrated 40 years in comedy — a feat the comedian does not take lightly.
“Almost every night when I go up onstage, I think about my first time performing and how terrified I was,” Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, told nonstoplife. “I take a moment to appreciate the fact that I get to do this for a living. Most people don’t get to do this forever, and I’ve been very blessed to do it pretty much my whole life.”
Over the past four decades, Thompson’s act has evolved from primarily focusing on prop comedy to showcasing a mix of prop comedy, stand-up comedy and funny visual aids that are displayed on a video wall. One of the hardest working comedians in show business, Thompson said he writes a new joke or makes a new prop for his Las Vegas residency almost every day. However, while his show often touches upon current events, Thompson makes sure to never alienate anyone with his sidesplitting material.
“People want to go out and they want to have fun,” Thompson said. “They know that I’m not going to get deep into politics or certain topics I’m not up there taking myself too seriously. I’m a clown. I’m just trying to do my thing without offending anybody.”
Everyone’s favorite curly red-haired comic is showing no signs of slowing down, either even though he also celebrated
his 60th birthday in February. Thompson recently extended his contact at Luxor through 2030 and has been busy working on his autobiography and a documentary about his career. As for what else the future holds, the recent “Hacks” guest star is keeping his options open.
“You never know in this business,” Thompson said. “Tomorrow, I could get a call from Spielberg.” carrottop.com

While the weather in Las Vegas may be hot, the city’s music residency scene is cooler than ever this summer thanks to several returning favorites and a couple of highly anticipated debuts.
Celebrating the 26th anniversary of their chart-topping album “Millennium,” pop superstars the Backstreet Boys will be returning to Las Vegas in July for an all-new summer residency: “Into the Millenium.” The first pop act to perform at Sphere, the Backstreet Boys will bring their iconic album — which features such classic songs as “Larger than Life” and “I Want It That Way” — to life during the show, as well as some of their other hits. Each song will be enhanced with cutting-edge visuals and sound made
possible by Sphere’s revolutionary immersive technology, resulting in a Backstreet Boys concert experience unlike any other. “Into the Millenium” runs Friday through Sunday, July 11 through Aug. 17, at 8 p.m.
Before the Backstreet Boys take the stage, though, country superstar Kenny Chesney will continue his new residency, “Kenny Chesney Live at Sphere in Las Vegas.” Performing
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, June 4 through 21, at 8 p.m., the show offers fans of the “She’s Got It All” singer a whole new way to enjoy his hits, plus some deep cuts and surprises. thesphere.com
Pop star and beloved talk show host Kelly Clarkson will be returning to Las Vegas this summer as well with a new residency inside The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions — The Las Vegas Residency” kicks off on July 4 and follows the “Since U Been Gone” singer’s sold-out Las Vegas engagement inside PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in 2023 and 2024. The “American Idol” winner promises to bring “the studio to the stage” with her new show, which will perform Friday and Saturday, July 4 through Aug. 16, at 8 p.m.
Fun Fact: Rod Stewart celebrated his 200th performance at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in March.
Longtime Las Vegas headliner Rod Stewart can also be seen performing his new residency inside The Colosseum at Caesars Place. “The Encore Shows” debuted at the venue in March and features stunning new production elements that differ from those showcased in Stewart’s previous 13-year residency at The Colosseum, “Rod Stewart: The Hits.” In addition to hearing the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted singer perform some of his signature classics, like “Forever Young” and “Maggie May,” fans will be treated to a few deep cuts and surprises. “The Encore Shows” resumes Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, June 1 through 8, at 7:30 p.m. com/shows
Dolby Live at Park MGM has a star-studded music lineup, too, with pop-rock showman Bruno Mars wrapping up his latest engagement at the venue on June 2 at 9 p.m. The “24K Magic” singer is known for his energetic live performances, so fans won’t want to miss their chance to see Mars while they can.
After Mars leaves the stage and New Kids on the Block kick off their all-new residency, “The Right Stuff,” at the venue in June and July, rock star Lenny Kravitz will return to Dolby Live with “Blue Electric Light Las Vegas.” Performing Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, Aug, 1 through 9, at 8 p.m., the show debuted last October, selling out all five performances. Of course, no trip to the Entertainment Capital of the World is complete without seeing the man who, in September 2023, surpassed Elvis Presley’s record for the most performances on Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino’s International Theater stage — Barry Manilow. The legendary singer-songwriter will return to the historic venue Thursday through Saturday, June 12 through 21, performing his hit residency, “Barry Manilow — The Hits Come Home!”
One of Las Vegas’ best shows, the longrunning production is a celebration of the soft rock showman’s storied career, featuring hit singles like “Daybreak” and “Can’t Smile Without You” as well as some of Manilow’s popular commercial jingles. New Kids on the Block are ready with ‘The Right Stuff’ residency
By Heather Turk
New Kids on the Block are kicking off their first Las Vegas residency this summer — and it’s something Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Jordan and Jonathan Knight have been talking about since they were kids.
“We used to cross paths with a lot of Vegas talent, but I think in the older days — and this is no discredit to any of the artists who played there — the perception was that when you got older and weren’t relevant anymore, you could go to Vegas,” Wahlberg said. “Over the years that’s changed so much that if we waited much longer, we might’ve been too old for Vegas. Vegas is so cool now.”
Performing select dates June 20 through July 5 inside Dolby Live at Park MGM, “The Right Stuff” promises to be a Vegas residency unlike any other. In addition to featuring the group’s greatest hits, like “Hangin’ Tough” and “Tonight,” as well as fan-favorite elements from past tours like the Quick Change Cam, Wahlberg said the show will feature plenty of surprises that will “elevate” a traditional New Kids on the Block concert experience. The quintet is also working on giving fans as many opportunities as possible to
engage with the group and each other, from afterparties to an interactive clubhouse.
“New Kids will be coming through, we’ll have a Wahlburgers food truck, my wife Jenny McCarthy’s Formless Beauty makeup line is going to be there glamming fans for the concert — we want to provide fans with places they can get together and enjoy stuff beyond just the two hours of watching us onstage,” Wahlberg stated. “We’ve learned over the years that our fans do well somewhere where we can spend a few days together, and what better place is there to do that than Las Vegas?” ticketmaster.com/ nkotbvegas

‘Michael Jackson ONE’ more thrilling than ever
By Heather Turk
It seems impossible to improve upon something that’s already perfect, but Cirque du Soleil has done just that with “Michael Jackson ONE.”
Already one of the best productions on the Las Vegas Strip, Cirque du Soleil’s recent reimagining of “Michael Jackson ONE” further immerses audiences in the dazzling production thanks to all-new technological elements. Not only are nine LED panels now suspended above the audience showcasing various projections throughout the show — including classic Michael Jackson performance clips — but the production is now one of the only shows in the world to have drones flying over the audience. Ticket holders will watch in awe as 64 drones create an aerial display at the start of the production, complementing the action happening onstage.
The costumes in “Michael Jackson ONE” have also been refreshed and the fanfavorite song “Another Part of Me” has been integrated into the show’s set list. In addition to all-new choreography for the number, the show recently introduced a fun diabolo act
“Michael Jackson ONE” recently extended its contract at Mandalay Bay through 2030
during “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” where six artists juggle spinning discs on an axle by using a string tethered to two sticks.
Although “Michael Jackson ONE” is remarkable by itself, guests can book a VIP Experience that not only includes premium seating, but also early entry into the theater. Guests will be escorted to a private VIP room to watch a 10-minute behind-the-scenes video on what it takes to bring the hit show to life and get the chance to meet a couple of the show’s talented performers. Each VIP ticket also includes a keepsake photograph with the artists as well as a complimentary snack and beverage.
“Michael Jackson ONE” performs Thursday through Monday at 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. inside Mandalay Bay. The show is dark on June 12. cirquedusoleil.com/michael-jackson-one

Dive into fun at one of Las Vegas’ many luxurious pools
Las Vegas’ pool scene is sure to make a splash with guests this summer, with several new additions and recent remodels joining some time-tested favorites.
Celebrating the first full summer visitors can enjoy its refreshed poolside experience, the Citrus Grand Pool Deck at Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino completed a major renovation in July 2024. Boasting more than 35,000 square feet of space, downtown Las Vegas’ largest rooftop pool deck features a sparkling swimming pool, a fire pit and fun lawn games. In addition to showcasing breathtaking views of the Las Vegas skyline, the poolside paradise hosts live concerts on select dates throughout the summer covering a wide range of genres, including EDM, pop, reggae and hip-hop. Resort guests of all ages are welcome, but those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Non-resort guests are welcome with purchase of a day pass through ResortPass or by making a daybed or cabana reservation, with full-day weekend cabana rates starting at just $200. downtowngrand.com/rooftop-pool
After setting the standard for adults-only day club experiences on the Strip in 2007, TAO Beach at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas raised the bar once again in 2022 following a multi-year renovation. The completely renovated space spans nearly 47,000 square feet and has two pools, Asian-style lush greenery and a DJ booth featuring some of today’s hottest acts — including rapper Tyga who will be performing on June 8 and 29, July 13 and Aug. 3 and 24. For a more exclusive experience, 29 luxury cabanas are available to rent, with select VIP cabanas boasting their own plunge pools. Cabana guests can also indulge in extravagant cabana-side chef experiences, with succulent selections like A5 Wagyu Striploin prepared and served tableside. taogroup.com/venues/tao-beachdayclub-las-vegas
Created in partnership with Tao Group Hospitality and the global live entertainment, lifestyle and hospitality company Palm Tree Crew, Palm Tree Beach Club opened at MGM Grand in May. The chic adults-only tropical retreat spans nearly 60,000 square feet and features a saltwater pool, 12 bungalow rentals, 10 cabana rentals and a ground-level stage for entertainment. DJs scheduled to perform at the Strip’s newest day club include Steve Aoki on June 8 and July 13, Pauly D on June 21 and Tiësto on June 28, July 19 and Aug. 2. Part of the resort’s multiphase transformation project, the all-new Go Pool at Flamingo Las Vegas opened this spring to guests ages 21 and older. Spanning nearly 1.5 acres, the $20 million project features five distinct pools and experiences at varying levels throughout the complex — including a main pool with a swim-up bar covered by a large canopy. High-energy DJs keep the party going seven days a week, and the entire oasis is enveloped by 55 towering palm trees and 35 additional tree varieties that were transplanted from the original Go Pool complex. Admission is free for hotel guests as well as non-hotel guests on a first-come, first-served basis. caesars. com/flamingo-las-vegas/things-to-do/pools
The ultimate summer hangout for sports fans in Las Vegas, Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino has a massive 14-millionmegapixel LED screen playing each day’s top sporting events. The adults-only downtown Las Vegas “aquatheater” invites fans from all over the city to watch the action from one of six temperature-controlled pools or two spas, with pool temperatures ranging from 78 to 94 degrees during the summer months. Local DJs are also on site adding to the lively atmosphere, and there’s a gaming area and two swim-up bars for visitors to enjoy. Admission is free for guests staying at Circa, the D Las Vegas or Golden Gate Hotel & Casino; otherwise, an admission fee applies. circalasvegas.com/stadium-swim
Fun Fact: The 40-foot-tall high-definition screen at Stadium Swim can show up to 12 games at once.
Last year, Silverton Casino Lodge debuted its brand-new, $10 million resort pool, The Swimmin’ Hole. The all-ages, off-Strip retreat features a heated pool kept at a cozy 86 degrees, a hot tub, fire pits and, through October, tasty poolside bites made for sunsoaked days. Special events are held during the summer, too, from free movie screenings on a 32-foot-diagonal retractable screen located above the pool’s bar to new “dusk” experiences like karaoke nights, country line dancing and unplugged (acoustic guitar) nights. While the pool was previously only open to hotel guests, Las Vegas locals are welcome to visit on select weekdays (Monday through Thursday) this summer. silvertoncasino. com/hotel/the-swimmin-hole
Las Vegas shows kids and adults will love
By Heather Turk
Las Vegas wouldn’t be the Entertainment Capital of the World if it didn’t have something for everyone to enjoy — including its youngest visitors.
Despite being known as a Disneyland for adults, Las Vegas has plenty of headlining shows that are family friendly. In fact, one of the Strip’s best shows has been an afternoon favorite for more than 20 years. Currently performing at Excalibur Hotel & Casino, “The Mac King Comedy Magic Show” is as funny as it is astounding. The interactive show features King performing his stunning sleight of hand illusions with the help of several audience participants — including one kid who is sure to be in awe when King goes “fishing” for goldfish above ticket holders’ heads. mackingshow.com
More cute animal co-stars can be found at another long-running show on the Strip: “Popovich Comedy Pet Theater” at the V Theater inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The charming production features a variety of animals — many of them rescues — performing fun tricks. Audiences will see a dog clean off a whiteboard, a cat jump through a hoop and a parrot do flips on a miniature gymnastics bar. Gregory Popovich’s impressive juggling and balancing skills round out a delightful circus show unlike any other. comedypet.com
For those whose children aren’t afraid of the dark, “iLuminate” inside The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower transports guests to Club iLuminate for a unique clubbing experience. Starring the “America’s Got Talent” dancers famous for their customized LED suits, the multisensory show features popular songs
from across the decades, including Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” Billie Eilish’s “bad guy” and even “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’s” “Pure Imagination.” A mix of jaw-dropping choreography, cool lighting effects and comedy, the dazzling production is sure to have audience members grooving along in their seats. iluminate.com
Golf experiences sure to score a hole in one with players of all skill levels
By Heather Turk
You don’t have to be an avid golfer to enjoy three of Las Vegas’ coolest golf experiences.
Located just north of The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower, Atomic Golf features 101 bays with seven unique driving range games that use radar-based tracking systems to track each player’s golf balls. Guests can create a fun player avatar, like an archaeologist or a cat, and practice their swing while trying to get “21” points or aiming for a “Bullseye.” Three interactive putting games are available in the Putting District as well. While guests enjoy themselves, they can treat their taste buds to an array of impeccable dishes from chef Robert Lomeli, winner of Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games,” and sip a locally brewed beer from the self-serve Tap Room. atomicgolf.com
Open exclusively to guests ages 21 and older, Swingers inside Mandalay Bay features four nine-hole miniature golf courses that transport players to the beautiful English countryside. Each “crazy golf course” has its own challenging obstacles, like a moving windmill installation, and there’s a DJ adding to the lively atmosphere after 5:30 p.m. Guests can also test their luck at a variety of carnival games and order cocktails and flavorful street fare, including frico-crusted Detroit-style pizzas from Emmy Squared Pizza. swingers.club/us/locations/las-vegas
Boasting 120 hitting bays featuring an assortment of high-tech driving range
games — including games themed to Sonic the Hedgehog and Angry Birds — Topgolf has been one of Las Vegas’ most popular attractions since opening behind MGM Grand in 2016. Not only can players aim for giant targets while relishing a menu of tasty food and beverages, but they can also cool off in one of two adults-only pools located on site. On select weekends, the venue even hosts ticketed Neon Night Swim parties. topgolf.com
It’s summer in Las Vegas, and downtown is bursting with excitement once again. Music, drinks and merriment fill Fremont Street to the brim, luring locals and visitors to wander the colorful corridor.
Live entertainment can be found every evening at Fremont Street Experience. Live music plays every night under the Viva Vision Canopy at three different stages, where a rotating schedule of artists keeps things fresh. Whether its 80’s Station playing the hits of their eponymous decade, or the country cover group Tony Marques Band, there’s always a show keeping things lively at the Fremont Street Experience.
Fremont street frolickers can even strap into Slotzilla, a huge zipline that rockets riders over the Fremont Street Experience and across the vibrant Viva Vision Canopy. Riders can choose whether to go face first “Super Hero” style, or the tradition seated zipline pose. Digital photos are included with every ride.

A little further south on Fremont, several venues boast their own roster of traveling acts. At Backstage Bar & Billiards, the sounds of local and touring bands underscores friendly pool games and plentiful pints of delicious beer. backstagebarandbilliards.com
While it may sound like somewhere to park your golf cart, Backstage Bar & Billiards’ sister venue, Fremont Country Club has another stage stacked with talented acts from blues rock to emerging indie artists.
Commonwealth is also known around town as the spot to go for a fun night out on Fremont. The two story bar and venue is known for drawing a hip crowd with its stacked jukebox, roster of live performances and even a secret bar in the back, The Laundry Room. Available for reservation only, the intimate speakeasy space is the perfect place to take a group of friends for a classy night downtown, complemented with craft cocktails. commonwealthlv.com
For overnight stays in and around Fremont, options range from historic hotels to brand new resorts. For the former, El Cortez Hotel and Casino has been in operation since 1941. Previously owned by notorious mobster Bugsy Siegel, El Cortez immerses guests in an authentic Vegas experience with high end dining, affordable slots and table games, and luxurious, newly remodeled rooms. elcortezhotelcasino.com

fair share of face lifts over the last 100 years, transforming into one of the city’s best boutique hotels, with luxury suites high roller tables and high tech additions on the casino floor and in the guest rooms. goldengatecasino.com
The best place for a morning pick-me-up on Fremont Street has to be Mothership Coffee Roasters. Their iced Bourbon Vanilla Latte paired with their Almond Bearclaw makes for the perfect fuel for a great start to a day on the Strip.
Nearby, PublicUs offers larger meals for those who have time to sit down and indulge in some classic breakfast favorites. Whether it be a heaping plate of Shakshuka, some spicy Chilaquiles or Corned Beef Hash, PublicUs elevates the traditional fare to delicious new heights, and adds a bit of their trademark sourdough on the side.
Fremont Street is also home to Downtown Container Park, an outdoor village square of sorts, with plenty of food options and space to enjoy them. The park also houses Oak & Ivy, an upscale whiskey bar well worth a stop.
Fremont Street landmark Atomic Liquor offers food, starting at 5 p.m., at The Kitchen at Atomic, their restaurant housed in a converted auto body shop next door. Sharing a patio with the longstanding local bar, it’s the perfect place to eat, drink and catch up with friends before an evening of fun on Fremont Street.
Snag a slice and a beer at Evel Pie. The Evel Knievel themed pizza joint is a perfect pitstop for a night on the town. On Friday and Saturday, the place keeps the lights on till 4 a.m., making it a regular haunt for those who party into the night.

It’s no secret why El Cortez Hotel & Casino is the longest continuously running hotel and casino in Las Vegas — it’s always giving guests something new to enjoy.
In February, the downtown Las Vegas property completed a property-wide expansion that resulted in 10,000 square feet of additional casino space. The expansion project breathed life into an area that once housed an event space as well as a decommissioned kitchen and restaurant by adding two bars, a new high limit lounge with slot machines and a fullservice Asian noodle bar helmed by
Michelin Guide-recognized chef Po Fai Lam. The $20 million project also included a new Starbucks on the other side of the property near the front desk.
“We’ve always listened to our guests, and the goal here was to give them more of what they love — diverse entertainment, great dining and more gaming options,” said Kenny Epstein, owner and CEO of El Cortez. “Our loyal followers are always worried that we’re going to ruin the El Cortez experience with upgrades and expansions, but the resounding response from this expansion is that the energy and feel of the space is a perfect extension of the historic original. I think the designers knocked it out of the park.”
Creating a welcoming yet sophisticated atmosphere, the expanded casino space features raised ceilings, ornate chandeliers, geometric patterns and warm hues of gold, bronze and toffee. Guests can test their luck on nearly 200 additional slot machines; sip a cocktail at the all-new ShowBar while
watching sports during the day and music videos at night on a 20-foot-by-10-foot video screen; play slot games while enjoying a drink at the roulette-inspired Roulette Bar; and savor tasty dishes like the Tonkotsu Ramen at Hot Noods.
The new high limit lounge also has its own bar and is adorned with eight 4-foot-tall, black-andwhite portraits of El Cortez’s owners throughout the years, dating back to J.K. Houssels Sr. and Marion Hicks who built the property in 1941.
The expansion project marks the most recent phase of a multiyear transformation at El Cortez, which included a $28 million dollar renovation that was completed in 2022 of its original hotel rooms above the casino as well as its tower rooms and casino-floor bathrooms. Additionally, in partnership with The Mob Museum, the property finished its History Hallway exhibit in 2023 that chronicles the evolution of Las Vegas through historic photographs. As for what’s next, more changes are on the horizon.
“With the expansion wrapped up, we’re focusing on updating the rest of the casino floor, and we’ve got some exciting plans for additional room upgrades coming soon,” Epstein said. “We’re always looking to improve El Cortez and keep things fresh for our guests.”

El Cortez opened in 1941 as one of the first hotel casinos in Las Vegas. Today we are the only hotel casino on the National Register of Historic Places. We honor that rich history by providing the same great value Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky offered when they owned El Cortez in the 1940s.

In Phoenix, locals stay cool in the summer by getting wet. While many resorts invite guests to chill by stylish pools, water parks, with their slides, lazy rivers and wave pools, deliver a thrill that’s hard to beat.
This 4.5-acre water park is making waves in Mesa — literally. Surfers can hang 10 in the surfing lagoon, which generates ocean-like waves, or learn to surf in a smaller pool with a stationary wave. Lessons are available. Meanwhile, non-surfers can watch the action while reclining on lounge chairs in white sand from Florida or in 14 cabanas along the shore.
Revel Surf also features four cliff-diving platforms, a tide pool and a skateboard park and is open Wednesday through Sunday. Passes for an hour of surf time and full beach access start at $75 for adults. revelsurf.com
A Phoenix favorite water park, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor has something for everyone. Thrill seekers will have a blast on Anaconda, an enclosed flume slide that Travel Channel named one of the nation’s top five water slides. Additionally, the park boasts the first dueling H2O coaster, an adventure river and heartpounding water slides.
Younger adventurers have their own kidsized water park and a multi-level aquatic playground surrounded by splash pads and other water elements. When the family needs a break, they can splash in a pool with oceanlike waves or enjoy a siesta in a cabana. A oneday pass costs $25 when purchased online and $39.50 at the gate. sixflags.com/phoenix
Designed for families with younger children, this 85,000-square-foot water park brings the outdoor fun inside, where the temperature is a comfortable 84 degrees. Kids will gravitate to the Talking Stick Treehouse with its slides, splash features and tipping buckets of water. There’s also a kid-friendly wave pond and lazy river.
Although the park caters to lodge guests, visitors can purchase a full-day pass for $100 per person or half-day pass for $90 per person. Dry activities such as the climbing wall, mini-golf and ropes course cost extra. greatwolf.com/arizona

When summer highs top 100 degrees, Phoenicians head north to Flagstaff. This year, Allegiant passengers have good reason to join them. Lowell Observatory has a new Astronomy Discovery Center, nature lovers can walk the Barefoot Trail and the city is gearing up for Route 66’s centennial in 2026.
The state-of-the-art Adventure Discovery Center at Lowell Observatory opened last fall, featuring new interactive exhibits, a kids’ zone for young scientists and theater with a 25-foot-tall, wrap-around LED screen. Visitors can also participate in the open-air planetarium on the roof, reclining in reserved seats as a guide points out celestial points of interest in the dark skies above Flagstaff.
Lowell Observatory’s other nighttime programs remain the same. Weather permitting, the Giovale Open Deck Observatory sets up six telescopes for viewing everything from planets to nebulae. Guests can also peer into space through the 24-inch Clark Refractor that Percival Lowell used 125 years ago. lowell.edu
Studies show that spending time in nature can lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety and boost mental health. Walking barefoot on natural elements such as grass has even more health benefits. At the Barefoot Trail just west of Flagstaff, visitors are encouraged to do both spend time in nature and expose their bare feet to dirt, sand, stone, water and mud.
The one-mile loop also features off-trail labyrinths, tire mountain and zipline. Plan to spend an hour or two on the trail. Although those with sensitive feet can opt to wear their
shoes, dogs and strollers are not allowed. thebarefoottrail.org

Visitors can also explore the Mother Road on the “Walk this Talk” audio tour. This self-guided tour starts at the Flagstaff Visitor Center with a welcome from actor Ted Danson, a former resident. As it continues, a local author shares stories of Route 66, hidden messages in street art and unsolved murders along the way. flagstaffarizona.org

The sounds of the 101 and 405 freeways are replaced by those of birds and water as a mallard and her ducklings glide by. An osprey circles overhead, and we pass a grey heron, who seems to be posing for his close-up.
Gary Golding from LA River Expeditions, one of two companies that offer guided tours on the river, tells us that this feathered resident is called “Doug” and that early morning trips on the LA River are the best. “It’s the coolest time of day in terms of the weather, and it’s often when deer and coyotes come down to the river to drink.”
Snaking some fifty-one miles from the mountains of the San Fernando Valley to the Pacific Ocean, the LA River was largely concreted after a series of floods in the 1930s. You will have seen these gray channels in movies like “Grease,” “Point Blank,” “Terminator 2” and “Drive,” but even few Angelenos know that you can kayak two “greenway” sections and transport yourself to a different world.
By James Bartlett
The Balboa Park run is one of the most natural sections of the whole river. It starts among the stalking egrets at the Sepulveda Basin Dam, where you put on a life jacket, grab a paddle and drag one of the brightlycolored kayaks into the shallow water.
“LA River Expeditions played a key role back in 2008, kayaking the whole river in order to open it up for recreation and to protect it from polluters,” says Golding, adding that the riverbanks are lined with plants, many of them — like walnut, pumpkin and fig — edible or usable as a salve or poultice. Native Californians and the Spanish pobladores (settlers) valued the river for its bounty of food and water, and the tours emphasize how the river is a living thing, rather than a graffiti-covered concrete wasteland.
When we glide into the “Grand Canyon,” a long, 20-foot-high cliff that is the result of erosion caused by non-native plants, we must get into the ankle-deep water and walk our kayaks around a new island created by recently fallen earth.
The second kayaking area is a shorter one located at Glendale Narrows, near downtown. It’s a little more challenging, with light rapids and rocky obstacles, but kayakers of all ages will enjoy it and get a little wet!
A billion-dollar plan has been approved to reinvigorate the river, starting with reclaiming another 11-mile stretch
Explore the destination’s nonalcoholic drink offerings with Napa Zero Proof Tours
By Heather Turk
Napa may be known for its world-class wine, but a new guided walking tour proves that there’s so much more to the region’s beverage scene than just vino.
Established in October 2024, Napa Zero Proof Tours is the only tour in Wine Country that showcases the creativity behind its zeroproof beverages. Offered most Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the 3-hour tour takes guests ages 18 and older through some of the most picturesque and vibrant parts of downtown Napa as they stop at venues known for their non-alcoholic drinks.
“People come to Napa for the food, the wine and the overall vibe, but not everyone wants to drink wine at every stop,” said Napa Zero Proof Tours founder, Devin Joshua.
“That’s where we come in. After a few days of tastings, a lot of our guests love having a few hours to enjoy incredible drinks and food without powering through another glass of vino. What surprises them is how strong the non-alcoholic scene is here. Napa has worldclass zero-proof cocktails, great local nonalcoholic beer and retailers that carry a wide selection of non-alcoholic ready-to-drink options. Some of the best bartenders and chefs are putting as much care into these drinks as their traditional cocktails. Our tour lets you experience all of it while still feeling like you are getting the best of Napa.”
Although tour stops vary, each tour showcases an assortment of enthusiastic partners, like Napa’s only tiki bar, Wilfred’s Lounge. Guests will get to savor a selection of small bites at several stops, too, so by
the time the near two-mile tour is complete, they’ll feel like they enjoyed an extended, slightly active lunch. Tours are capped at just 10 people, so be sure to book the intimate experience as soon as possible. napazeroprooftours.com

For many, a sporting trip to the golf course offers enough adventure for one day, and at Aileron Golf Club, a private 72-par golf course exclusive to resort guests and members, guests get to enjoy the game at their own pace.
The club has flexible tee times, so golfers can take their time and enjoy the majestic courses designed by renowned architect Kipp Schulties. Sunseeker Resort is located right at the mouth of the Peace River, providing a unique jump off point for an excursion through the stunning outdoor scenery. The Peace River makes the perfect backdrop for a serene kayaking journey. Not too far from the resort, guests can glide across crystal clear waters aboard a standup paddle board. Whether it’s exploring the sand bars off Stump Pass Beach or calmly floating across the seagrass of Lemon Bay, a stand-up paddle board tour provided by SUP Englewood provides a stylish alternative to the reliable kayak and is a bit easier to dismount quickly when approaching the mangrove islands around Charlotte Harbor.
Continued on next page.
SUP Englewood offers kayaking tours as well. Their kayak tour at Don Pedro Island explores sights where dolphins, manatees and other aquatic species often visit, darting through mangrove tunnels to a hidden coastal lagoon.
Sunseeker Resort guests can also rent an ebike or regular bike to explore the area. On a self guided eco tour along the resort’s promenade, there are several opportunities to learn about the surrounding waters and wildlife without having to stray too far from the resort.
You do not need to be an athlete to explore the beauty of the area. Peace River Charters transports guests upriver using the engine of an airboat and the amphibious wheels of a swamp buggy. Tours offer exciting up close animal encounters and relaxing ambient natural scenery, while guides provide educational insights about the unique ecosystem and history of the area.
Punta Gorda Adventures also charters private sailing yachts that take guests from the resort and into the largest, deepest and most diverse of the five Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserves. The intimate cruise is a wonderful way for small parties of up to six to enjoy a touch of luxury while exploring the natural world that surrounds Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor.

The seaside town of Bellingham, Wash., is known as much for its stunning scenery as it is its access to fresh produce and seafood. But Bellingham is also home to several local breweries that take the craft of beer brewing to another level.
Boundary Bay Brewing & Bistro kicked off the area’s brewery trend over two decades ago, competing with three other prospective brewing businesses to open Bellingham’s first brewery. Their beer list features recipes that have been around since their early days, such as the Northwest Original IPA, a hoppy and malty crowd pleaser that has been on tap since 1996. While this year marks their 30th year in operation, it is also their last, so be sure to stop by for a pint at the place that started it all. bbaybrewery.com
While relatively newer, Kulshan Brewing Company quickly made a name for itself shortly after its 2012 opening, garnering enough praise and support to expand its operation within one year of opening. Now, there are two breweries under the Kulshan banner, along with a third seasonal location that opens every summer on the newly renovated waterfront. All serve awardwinning beers, including their Sunnyland IPA and signature Red Cap Irish Ale. kulshanbrewing.com

deck or outdoor beer garden. While their tap list can change, be on the lookout for their award-winning Correspondent Export Stout, made with a blend of specialty European malts that add subtle hints of baker’s chocolate and toasted grain. wanderbrewing.com
Though it may seem like there’s a lot of competition, the local beer brewing community is more than friendly with one another. The breweries of Bellingham joined together to create the Bellingham Beer Alliance, an organization dedicated to promoting the unique community that is the Bellingham craft beer industry. Every year, the Alliance hosts Bellingham Beer Week in April, where local breweries and taprooms hold special events.

At Allegiant, creating opportunities for accessible air travel is embedded in our DNA. In fact, helping to facilitate air travel for people facing serious medical challenges is one of the core pillars of our Corporate Giving program.
As a proud national partner of Make-A-Wish® since 2012, we celebrate World Wish Month – the time of year when we rally together to celebrate the nonprofit’s life-changing mission to create unforgettable experiences for children battling critical illnesses.
This movement is commemorated on April 29, the day the first wish was granted 45 years ago.
Every wish can give a child the pivotal hope they need to keep fighting, making a real difference in improving health outcomes for many children. With nearly 77% of wishes involving air travel, Allegiant’s commitment to Make-A-Wish is a critical resource to making these experiences a reality.
Over the years, we have donated over $32 million to the organization through in-kind flights and sponsorships. We have flown more than 2,000 Wish Kids and their families to their dream destinations, making a transformative difference in their lives.
At airports across our network, you can see the
pride we take in our partnership as our Make-AWish livery aircraft flies passengers every day.
The blue and white colors of the Make-A-Wish brand, with stars encircling the fuselage of an Airbus A320, starts in front of the plane’s wings and stretches across half of the fuselage down to the tail, where it meets the orange of Allegiant’s iconic sunburst logo.
While on board, passengers can snack for a cause by purchasing our inflight Wingz Kids Snack Pack, a convenient and tasty option for kids. With every purchase, we donate $1 to Make-A-Wish. This initiative has not only helped us bring smiles to children onboard but has also helped us donate over $1.1 million to the nonprofit since we began selling these snack packs in 2014.
However, our dedication goes beyond wheels up. At our headquarters in Las Vegas, we are neighbors with Make-A-Wish Nevada. In 2017, we donated office space at our headquarters to the local chapter, providing a rent-free home so they can focus more of their resources on fulfilling wishes and spreading joy. The 7,000-square-foot office building also provides a sanctuary for children, known as The Wishing Place, where kids are encouraged to play and dream.

Customer safety is Allegiant®’s first concern. Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following:
• Location of the nearest emergency exit
• Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed
• Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency
Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards.
Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT" from the manufacturer. Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt.
The use of small cameras or mobile devices for photography and video is permitted onboard provided you keep the purpose of your photography and video to capturing personal events. Photographing or recording other customers or airline personnel without their express consent is prohibited. Airline personnel reserve the right to prohibit photos and videos onboard the aircraft if it becomes a disturbance to them or other passengers.
Allegiant is forbidden to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears to be intoxicated or who has not yet reached the age of 21. It is a violation of federal regulations to drink alcoholic beverages during a flight unless they have been served by Allegiant personnel.
Smoking, the use of other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and other similar smoking devices are not permitted on any Allegiant flight. Federal law imposes fines of $1,000 for smoking and up to $2,000 for any attempt to disable an aircraft smoke detector.

At Allegiant, we’re committed to helping you live your best Nonstop Life. While our affordable, nonstop service plays a key role, it’s our people — especially the friendly faces you meet in the sky — who bring the Allegiant experience to life.
Each year, frontline team members are nominated by their colleagues for our Customer Experience Excellence Award. This award recognizes those who go above and beyond to create memorable moments for our passengers.
This spring, we had the honor of welcoming the 2024 award recipients to our headquarters in Las Vegas to enjoy a weekend of celebration — including exciting Vegas experiences, an awards ceremony, and even some time cheering on our local professional sports teams.
Our 2024 Customer Experience Excellence Award winners’ stories touched our hearts, and we think you’ll love them too. Here are a few inspiring examples of how Allegiant team members go above and beyond to serve you — our valued passengers — every day:
“After a long day, the crew was ready to go home, but one passenger in a wheelchair needed assistance. Captain David stepped in without hesitation and personally escorted her through the airport. Her smile was bright as he turned a potential long wait into a memorable moment.”
“Last summer, Charles Isgrigg assisted an Allegiant flight diverted due to weather, even though he was off duty. He drove nearly two hours to manage boarding, coordinate with the crew and handle refueling. Thanks to his efforts, the flight was able to depart that evening — sparing passengers from an unexpected overnight delay.”
“Val is hands down the most efficient and effective gate agent I’ve encountered in my four and a half years at Allegiant! Val embodies the right attitude, a strong work ethic and an incredible commitment to teamwork.”
These stories of serving our passengers are the heartbeat of why we do what we do. Together We Fly!
