THE SARASOTA KEYS ARE CALLING

Your next coastal escape starts here

Nestled along Florida’s Gulf Coast, the Sarasota area beckons travelers with its pristine beaches, vibrant cultural scene and diverse outdoor adventures. Whether you’re seeking a serene escape or an activity-filled getaway, Sarasota offers an array of experiences to suit every traveler’s desires.

SIESTA KEY

Siesta Key stands out as a jewel among Sarasota’s barrier islands. Renowned for its powdery-white sand and clear turquoise waters, Siesta Beach regularly earns accolades such as the #1 Beach in the U.S. and #4 in the World in the 2025 Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards.

Beyond its natural beauty, Siesta Key offers a lively atmosphere with a variety of dining and entertainment options — especially in Siesta Key Village, a hub of quaint shops, seafood restaurants and live music venues perfect for either relaxing or socializing.

LIDO KEY

For those seeking a more tranquil beach experience, Lido Key provides a serene retreat. Its uncrowded shores are ideal for sunbathing, swimming and leisurely strolls. The nearby St. Armands Circle offers an upscale shopping and dining district, where visitors can explore boutiques, art galleries and gourmet restaurants. Lido Key seamlessly combines natural beauty with refined elegance, catering to travelers looking for relaxation and sophistication.

LONGBOAT KEY

Longboat Key is synonymous with luxury and seclusion. This narrow island is lined with private beaches and opulent residences, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. While much of the beachfront is private, there are limited public access points where visitors can enjoy the serene environment. Dining on Longboat Key is a treat, with establishments like Chart House and Dry Dock Waterfront Grill providing mouthwatering meals in picturesque settings.

CASEY KEY

Casey Key offers a coastal retreat marked by lush landscapes. Ideal for travelers seeking tranquility, the island is known for luxurious homes tucked among tropical greenery, often favored by those craving privacy and natural beauty. Go shelling or take a leisurely walk along its uncrowded beaches, keeping an eye on the waves for dolphins and manatees.

VENICE

Venice, known as the “Shark Tooth Capital of the World,” is perfect for family-friendly adventures. Look for fossilized shark teeth along its shores, an activity perfect for all ages. Visit charming downtown Venice for boutique shopping, casual eateries and historical architecture. The laidback atmosphere, combined with parks and picturesque trails, makes Venice an appealing destination for both relaxation and exploration.

MANASOTA KEY

Manasota Key provides a quieter beach experience ideal for wildlife watchers. There’s Englewood Beach, popular for its vibrant sunsets, or the nature-rich Blind Pass Beach. With accessible outdoor adventures, including fishing, boating and paddleboarding, Manasota Key appeals to visitors on the lookout for either relaxation or adventure.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES AND NATURAL BEAUTY

Sarasota is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The area’s parks and preserves offer opportunities for hiking, bird-watching and kayaking. For a unique experience, explore the mangrove tunnels by kayak or paddleboard — you might even encounter manatees and dolphins in their natural habitat — or see the keys from above on a parasailing adventure.

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES:

THE ARTS AND BEYOND

Dubbed Florida’s Cultural Coast,® Sarasota boasts a rich arts scene. On Lido Key, the Circus Ring of Fame, smack dab in the middle of St. Armands Circle, pays tribute to circus performers from around the world. On the mainland, The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art houses an impressive collection of European paintings, while the Sarasota Orchestra, Sarasota Opera and the Sarasota Ballet offer world-class performances. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens provides a blend of flora and art, featuring a renowned collection of orchids.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES

Families will find no shortage of activities to keep everyone entertained. Start by feeding freeroaming flamingos at Sarasota Jungle Gardens, or visit Big Cat Habitat to meet and learn about rescued exotic animals up close. Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium offers interactive exhibits and the chance to learn about sea creatures, and look for the new Mote SEA, opening in 2025 near University Town Center.

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS

Throughout the year, the Sarasota keys host a variety of festivals and events that celebrate its diverse culture and community spirit. Whether you’re strolling a charming farmers market or celebrating coastal culture at a seafood fest, Sarasota’s calendar is brimming with can’t-miss events — from the breathtaking artistry of the Siesta Key Crystal Classic International Sand Sculpting Festival to the refined elegance of the Longboat Key Festival of the Arts.

CULINARY DELIGHTS

Sarasota’s culinary scene is as diverse as its landscape. Seafood lovers can indulge in fresh catches at waterfront restaurants — the grouper sandwich is the house specialty at Dry Dock Waterfront Grill on Longboat Key, and Siesta Key Oyster Bar is known for its, well, oysters — while those seeking international flavors will find a plethora of options along the coast.

PLAN YOUR STAY

Accommodations up and down the islands of Sarasota cater to a range of preferences and budgets. From luxury resorts on the beach like the new St. Regis Longboat Key Resort to vacation rentals on Siesta Key with a homeaway-from-home feel, there’s a perfect place for every traveler.

Whether you’re basking on the awardwinning beaches of Siesta Key or soaking up the ambiance of Lido Key, your visit to Sarasota’s keys promises to be an unforgettable experience. visitsarasota.com

Find excitement at Sunseeker Resort

Charlotte Harbor

Located on the Gulf Coast, Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor is perfectly situated for ease of access to fun and excitement. Though the rooms are beautiful, the stunning scenery in Charlotte Harbor may just be enough to entice travelers into an exciting adventure.

SWIM

The quickest way to hop into some fun at Sunseeker Resort is by throwing on your swim suit and heading poolside. The adultsonly rooftop pool Level Blue has sweeping views of the harbor, while the family-friendly Reflections Pool on the ground level has plenty of space to lounge or play. Poolside waitstaff keep guests fed and hydrated, leaving ample time to swim or sprawl.

ENTERTAINMENT

There’s music around every corner at Sunseeker Resort. Whether you are at Half Cracked Tiki Shack enjoying burgers with tropical drinks and eclectic music or dining on fancy entrées with jazz at Maury’s Steak, Seafood & Spirits. For those who want to entertain their inner foodie, all summer long guests can experience their own culinary journey with the add of an all-you can eat or drink package to Harbor Yards.

GOLF

For many, a sporting trip to the golf course offers enough adventure for one day, and at Aileron Golf Club, a private 72-par golf course exclusive to resort guests and members, guests get to enjoy the game at their own pace.

The club has flexible tee times, so golfers can take their time and enjoy the majestic courses designed by renowned architect Kipp Schulties. With long, ambling fairways and beautiful scenery, the 155-acre, 18-hole championship level golf course sets the stage for storied drives and legendary putts.

EXPLORE

Sunseeker Resort is located right at the mouth of the Peace River, providing a unique jump off point for an excursion through the stunning outdoor scenery. The Peace River makes the perfect backdrop for a serene kayaking journey. After renting a single or double rider kayak, paddlers are free to explore up river by themselves, but on a guided tour, up to 12 people can learn more about the area from an educated guide who can point out unique wildlife, flora and provide fun facts along the way.

Not too far from the resort, guests can glide across crystal clear waters aboard a standup paddle board. Whether it’s exploring the sand bars off Stump Pass Beach or calmly floating across the seagrass of Lemon Bay, a stand-up paddle board tour provided by SUP Englewood provides a stylish alternative to the reliable kayak and is a bit easier to dismount quickly when approaching the mangrove islands around Charlotte Harbor.

Continued on next page.

SUP Englewood offers kayaking tours as well. Their kayak tour at Don Pedro Island explores sights where dolphins, manatees and other aquatic species often visit, darting through mangrove tunnels to a hidden coastal lagoon.

Sunseeker Resort guests can also rent an ebike or regular bike to explore the area. On a self guided eco tour along the resort’s promenade, there are several opportunities to learn about the surrounding waters and wildlife without having to stray too far from the resort.

CRUISE

You do not need to be an athlete to explore the beauty of the area. Peace River Charters transports guests upriver using the engine of an airboat and the amphibious wheels of a swamp buggy. Tours offer exciting up close animal encounters and relaxing ambient natural scenery, while guides provide educational insights about the unique ecosystem and history of the area.

Punta Gorda Adventures charters private sailing yachts that take guests from the resort and into the largest, deepest and most diverse of the five Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserves. The intimate cruise is a wonderful way for small parties of up to six to enjoy a touch of luxury while exploring the natural world that surrounds Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor.

King Fisher Fleet sightseeing cruises provide space for larger groups to take in the stunning scenery along the Gulf Coast. Those who plan to catch the sunset cruise will end up seeing a view that will leave a lasting impression for years to come. Along the way, spot the manatees, dolphins and other exciting wildlife that call the area home.

While cruises move at a relaxed pace, a rip-roaring Jet Ski ride can be booked with help from the concierge at Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor. With a litany of fun activities on hand and the means to book them, the resourceful staff are always the best point of contact for starting an adventure in Charlotte Harbor. sunseekerresort.com

SUMMERTIME AT FISHERMEN’S VILLAGE

Seasonal events and new boutiques sure to make a splash

One of the best places in Southwest Florida to shop, dine and be entertained, Fishermen’s Village has something for everyone to enjoy this summer.

Celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2025, Fishermen’s Village not only has an array of specialty boutiques and waterfront restaurants that visitors will love, but also features regularly scheduled free entertainment. In addition to hosting live concerts multiple times each week either in its center court or on its dry beach, the beloved Punta Gorda attraction hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year.

One of its most popular annual events is its Independence Day Celebration, which kicks off at noon on July 4 and continues until 9 p.m. with a dazzling fireworks display over Charlotte Harbor. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy family-friendly activities and live concerts on the beach, including music by country/rockand-roll cover band From the Edge.

On Aug. 2, Fishermen’s Village’s ninth annual TikiFest will take place from noon to 6 p.m., featuring authentic island entertainment, vendors and engaging activities.

Fishermen’s Village recently welcomed a couple of new stores to its retail offerings as well, like Route Florida. The charming

store sells a variety of products from small businesses across the state, including Floridathemed clothing, jewelry, books and home décor. Shoppers will find everything from Mary Frances handbags to gourmet Florida jellies, local honey and handpicked Florida seashells. Monkee’s also recently opened its doors, bringing high-end women’s clothing, shoes and accessories to the heart of Punta Gorda. Fashionistas will find statement pieces from several designer names, like Ramy Brook and Shoshanna.

Fishermen’s Village is located at 1200 W. Retta Esplanade, right along Charlotte Harbor. For an up-to-date entertainment schedule featuring all of the concerts and events taking place at Fishermen’s Village this summer, visit the official Fishermen’s Village’s website. fishermensvillage.com

SUN, SAND AND SERENITY

One of Lee County’s newest attractions is ready to make a splash with visitors of all ages this summer.

Offering guests the ultimate place to have some fun in the sun, Brightwater Lagoon fully opened to the public in North Fort Myers this past spring. Featuring 6 acres of clear blue water surrounded by sandy beaches and lounge chairs, the resort-style lagoon is one of four MetroLagoons locations in Florida and the first of its kind in Southwest Florida.

“Brightwater Lagoon offers a tropical paradise escape for families and friends to relax, enjoy the Florida sunshine and play in a crystal clear and clean lagoon,” said Jimmy Cruz, Brightwater Lagoon’s general manager. “It’s a one-stop shop for visitors and locals alike to enjoy a day by the water with great food, ice-cold drinks, entertainment and plenty of activities just steps away.”

and Unlimited Splash Pass, which not only lets visitors swim in the lagoon all day, but also includes access to all of the water activities Brightwater Lagoon has to offer. Probably its most popular attraction is the water obstacle course, which features a variety of climbing, balancing and sliding challenges that offer endless fun for kids and adults. While the course has its own 9-foot-tall slide, Brightwater Lagoon also has a separate traditional water slide open to all guests that stands over 20 feet tall.

Brightwater Lagoon offers kayak and stand up paddleboard rentals as well, both of which are included with a Splash Pass. Perfect for those who might be nervous about paddling in the ocean, Brightwater Lagoon’s kayak and paddleboard excursions let guests paddle in the lagoon’s beautiful waters, which are free from wildlife and other potentially dangerous elements. The lagoon’s water quality team works daily to ensure the water is both clean and safe.

Insider’s Tip: Brightwater Lagoon is MetroLagoons’ first cashless venue, so be sure to bring your debit or credit card.

While the All Day Ticket and Unlimited Splash Pass bundle includes complimentary beach loungers, guests can upgrade their Brightwater Lagoon experience with a rental in Cabana Cove. The lagoon’s exclusive VIP section not only features cabanas and floating aquabanas, but also a private swimming area, a bar and additional seating. Various other beach rentals are available throughout Brightwater Lagoon as well, including shaded island tiki huts on Gasparilla Island.

Throughout the summer, Brightwater Lagoon will host several special events, including family-friendly movies and a Fourth of July celebration. Live entertainment is featured regularly, too, and

GLAMOROUS GLAMPING

Camp in style surrounded by natural beauty, an abundance of outdoor activities, wondrous wildlife and luxurious accommodations at Koreshan State Park.

Cradled by majestic towering oaks along the banks of the Estero River, about 30 minutes driving time south of Fort Myers, this quiet and peaceful park offers a camping experience that everyone can enjoy.

Located inside Koreshan State Park, Timberline Glamping Fort Myers was founded on the idea that combining luxury with the great outdoors is the perfect way to create special memories with family and friends.

Indulge in camping and comfort at Koreshan State Park

“Our fully furnished and extra spacious safari tents provide large families or groups of friends the extra space they need to glamp in comfort,” said Nada Elftman, coowner of Timberline Glamping Fort Myers.

Guests can choose from Double Safari Tents with two queen size beds, and Deluxe Safari Tents with a king-sized bed and two sets of bunk beds. Both the Double and Deluxe tents offer 320 square feet of living space.

All glamping tents come with comfortable bedding, a Keurig Coffee Maker, mini refrigerator, rugs, lamps, diffuser, electrical outlets to charge devices and climate

control, blending the natural charm of camping with modern conveniences.

The picturesque glampsites include two hammocks, a fire pit, charcoal grill with cooking grate, string lights, two camp chairs and a picnic table. What better way to experience your surroundings!

“You can look forward to a restful night in a very comfortable bed with proper linens. Along with places to sit, eat and charge your phone, you’ll wake up to a fresh cup of coffee from your Keurig Coffee Maker,” said Elftman. “You can enjoy nature with a touch of comfort!”

After a good night’s rest, explore the park’s Koreshan Unity Settlement, home to 11 immaculately restored and nationally registered historic buildings erected by the Koreshan pioneers between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Knowledgeable volunteers and ranger staff offer year-round guided tours of the landscaped grounds and restored buildings, providing a window into the past.

The 200-acre park is also home to shaded picnic sites, a popular playground for the little ones and a traditional 60-site campground.

Nature trails meander along the Estero River for bird watching, hiking, wildlife viewing, picnicking, geo-seeking and biking. Or, hop in the water and go fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking or paddle boarding on the picturesque Estero River. The ranger station has more information on the many eco tours available.

“Imagine your family experiencing all of the park’s natural beauty,” said Elftman, “and after a fun day of adventures, returning to your glamping site and cooling off in the AC while sipping cold beverages before lazing in a hammock.”

WELCOME TO THE MILITARY HERITAGE MUSEUM

A Southwest Florida treasure

Located along the picturesque Punta Gorda shoreline just before the main entrance to Fishermen’s Village, the Military Heritage Museum offers something for young and old alike.

More than 20,000 authentic one-of-a-kind artifacts and original historical documents make up the museum’s collection, displayed across four engaging, interactive and technology-enhanced exhibit galleries. Among the exhibits, flight simulators and virtual reality experiences provide innovative engagements for the whole family.

At the welcome center, guests have an opportunity to select from a variety of tours and programs. Veteran-led tours provide a unique and highly personal perspective of the rich military history found throughout the museum’s many galleries, displays, exhibits, programs and activities.

The gallery spaces span military history, from the 18th to 21st century. While all contain stories of valor and treasured artifacts, the 21st century gallery puts you in the middle of history, providing a boots-on-the-ground perspective with the interactive War Room. The gallery also contains several highly detailed miniature sets of important operations throughout history.

On the second-floor, guests become a part of U.S. military history through flight simulations and virtual reality. In the Flight Ops Simulator Room, visitors age 10 and up can “fly” an F-16 Fighting Falcon or P-51 Mustang under the helpful direction of a veteran pilot.

In the Virtual Reality (VR) Room, guests can experience first hand what its like to jump from a plane with Special Forces or take a spacewalk outside the International Space Station.

They can even be transported through time, experiencing the journey of flight from the Wright Brothers’ first ascent to present day.

At the Training Center, the museum screens 3D and 2D movies on a state-of-the-art 3D screen. With the high tech glasses provided, the history of space travel comes alive in three dimensions. The space is also known to host live presentations in addition to other exhibits.

Before leaving, stop by the Ship’s Store on the first floor for souvenirs, books, toys, military themed merchandise and tasty snacks. The Military Heritage Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a cockpit tour of the iconic Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, affectionately known as the “Huey,” Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. militaryheritagemuseum.org

TIMELESS MEETS CONTEMPORARY

Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens marries nature with creativity

At Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, natural and man-made beauty come together to create one of Punta Gorda’s most breathtaking attractions.

Abutting the Peace River, Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens blends Florida’s natural landscape with more than 4,500 plants, trees and bamboo varieties. Summertime is actually a great time to visit the 27-acre sanctuary, as Florida’s afternoon showers make the tropical landscape especially lush, and there are plenty of shady spots and mangrove tunnels to help visitors escape the heat. Horticulture highlights include 25 rainbow eucalyptus trees — the largest known grove in the continental U.S. — and 100 cultivars of bougainvillea that surround the gardens’ popular Butterfly House. World-class sculptures are also located throughout the grounds, including four hyperrealist pieces by acclaimed sculptor Carole A. Feuerman.

“Immerse yourself in the beauty of summer as you marvel at over a million blooms within our enchanting blend of art and nature,” said Cassandra Bazinet, Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens’ director of engagement.

“Take a leisurely stroll through our serene sanctuary, enjoy a picnic and experience the wonder of our butterfly garden.

Revel in the natural splendor of the Peace River, feed the koi, view over 20 permanent sculpture installations

and participate in regular programs and events.”

Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including weekly programs that celebrate the serenity of art and nature through meditation classes and fitness activities like yoga. Beginning on Sept. 12, it will also host the limited-time exhibition “Origami in the Gardens,” featuring large-scale outdoor sculptures crafted from metal that look like folded paper origami pieces.

Summer hours at Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens are Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. (closed on July 4). Children ages 5 and younger receive free admission. peacerivergardens.org

A REAL HIDDEN GEM

Prohibition-era speakeasy at Escondido Lounge

The secret is getting out on one of Southwest Florida’s coolest new speakeasies.

Located in the historic Richards Building, which was once a celebrity haunt visited regularly by Thomas Edison, Escondido Lounge opened in downtown Fort Myers last December. Accessible through a secret library door behind the popular Taco Works eatery, the stylish two-story lounge offers an extensive selection of premium mezcals and tequilas as well as a menu of classic and signature craft cocktails. Guests can pair their drink, like the flavorful Passionfruit Mezcalita made with fresh passionfruit, mezcal, lime, habanero bitters and agave, with an assortment of innovative small plates, including a platter of mozzarella sticks that can come topped with black truffle “caviar.”

“A speakeasy in this area offers an interesting contrast to the beachy, more casual venues, providing a more intimate, refined space for those who want a different kind of night out,” said Brad Cozza, co-owner of Escondido Lounge. “The local culture leans toward relaxation and enjoying good drinks, so speakeasies cater to that desire for escapism, but with a twist of elegance and history. Plus, with the area’s growing cocktail scene, people are more inclined to seek out craft cocktail experiences that are best delivered in a cozy, atmospheric setting — one that a speakeasy can deliver perfectly.”

Guests can order a variety of desserts that perfectly complement

the flavors of mezcal and tequila, too, including a refreshing limón sorbetto finished tableside with a pour of mezcal syrup. Further adding to Escondido Lounge’s sophisticated atmosphere, patrons can enjoy music from a live DJ every Friday and Saturday night and listen to local pianists perform during the lounge’s Wednesday night piano series.

A REEL CATCH

WORLD-CLASS FISHING AWAITS IN ST. PETE-CLEARWATER, FLORIDA

Fishing may not be the first activity people think of when planning a trip to St. Pete-Clearwater, but with 35 miles of white-sand beaches and warm, emerald Gulf waters, the destination is one of America’s top places to go fishing all year long.

“I think sometimes it gets overlooked because we have so much going on here,” said Captain Michael Anderson, a fishing guide in Central Florida for 25 years who also hosts Tampa’s “Reel Animals” radio show and the “Reel Animals” fishing TV show. “Since we have world-class beaches, restaurants, resorts and golf, people don’t expect the fishing to be as incredible as it is. To me, though, I think that’s what makes this part of Florida so special — that there is so much to do along with your fishing adventure.”

Anderson noted that not only can some of the best freshwater bass fishing in the entire country be found on Florida’s Gulf Coast, but there’s also big snook on the beaches, incredible redfishing in the backcountry and great offshore fishing. Migrating tarpon that

weigh 200 pounds and more visit the area, too, during the summer months.

Anglers who want to head out into the Gulf in search of grouper, red snapper, wahoo, yellowfin tuna or mahi mahi can join a party boat for a day of deepsea fishing or, for a more personal experience, book a private fishing charter that may go farther out into the water in pursuit of larger fish. John’s Pass Village & Boardwalk, St. Pete Beach and Clearwater Beach Municipal Marina all have multiple companies that offer half- and full-day charters. Anderson recommends checking in with local tackle stores to see who they would recommend for a fishing excursion as well. Guests can even opt to go fishing by themselves.

“Truth be told, there’s incredible fishing to be had right from the shore where our resorts are,” Anderson said. “A lot of people fish right from the beach of their hotel and catch snook, whiting and big beautiful trout.”

As for what to do with the fish for anglers who don’t plan on releasing them, several local restaurants like Crabby’s Dockside, Friendly Fisherman and Salty’s Island Bar & Grille will cook a guest’s cleaned, properly bagged fillet for them.

“I think that when people are on vacation, they’re looking to make memories and do a little bit of adventure seeking,” Anderson concluded. “The hook it and cook it wraps it all up into a nice little package for ’em that they never forget.”

An experience you won’t forget

Spend some time this summer at St. Pete Pier

Celebrating the fifth anniversary of its current iteration on July 6, St. Pete Pier continues to be one of the Tampa Bay area’s most popular destinations.

Comprising 26 acres of waterfront park in downtown St. Pete, the $92 million pier features a modular series of walkable destinations that act as an extension of St. Pete’s bustling city center. Visitors will find commissioned art pieces by international artists on display, a $1 million nauticalthemed playground, a dedicated fishing platform and lively bazaar featuring an array of independent vendors selling their wares. There’s also an area called Spa Beach, where guests can partake in water-based activities like kayaking and paddleboarding, and the informative Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center, where guests can learn about Tampa Bay’s rich ecosystem while getting up close to several types of animals — including two rare ornate diamondback terrapins.

“There’s no better place to embrace the summer weather than in the Sunshine State at the St. Pete Pier,” said St. Pete Pier’s manager, Juniper Rodriguez. “Set against the serene backdrop of Florida’s Gulf Coast, the pier offers an unmatched blend of leisure, culture and entertainment, making it the ultimate summer destination for every traveler.”

Did You Know…

St.

Pete Pier

is the largest waterfront district in the Southeastern United States?

Several restaurants are located at St. Pete Pier, too, including one of the pier’s newest additions: Perry’s Porch. Located adjacent to the St. Petersburg Museum of History, the refined yet relaxed restaurant is named after C. Perry Snell, a prominent developer during St. Pete’s early days. Diners can soak up waterfront views from the restaurant’s wraparound porch while savoring a menu of fresh, coastal Florida cuisine for lunch and dinner. Perry’s Porch also has a coffee shop component that’s open throughout the day and a gelato cart that serves rotating flavors to both restaurant guests and passersby.

Pier guests can enjoy even more refreshing treats during the fourth annual Tampa Bay Ice Cream Festival. Returning on July 28, the event will feature more than 25 vendors selling unique and classic ice cream flavors in hopes of earning patrons’ votes for a Best Ice Cream Award. St. Pete Pier will host a variety of other events throughout the summer as well, including free monthly fitness classes and its popular Independence Day Celebration. Taking place on July 4 from 4 to 10 p.m., the celebration will not only feature fireworks starting at 9 p.m., but also live music, a family fun zone and a craft beer garden. For those who want to start celebrating early, the 4-mile St. Pete Pier Run takes place that morning, complete with its own costume and pie eating contests.

With so much to experience, it’s no wonder St. Pete Pier has become a summertime favorite with locals and visitors alike. stpetepier.org

Swimming & Saving the Keys

Summer is prime time for snorkeling, diving, swimming and boating the waters of the Florida Keys. Out on the water, there is a good chance you will see marvelous creatures like turtles, dolphins or any number of colorful fish. The new REEF Ocean Exploration Center jumps into this underwater world, offering the chance to get involved as a future ocean steward.

The REEF Ocean Exploration Center opens in Key Largo on June 7 and 8, and across its two floors, galleries, classrooms and exhibits cover the history, science and conservation of life below the waves. It also looks at the dangers coming from the deep blue, too, including the impressive-looking but invasive lionfish.

“We want the ocean to come to life for everyone here,” says Christy PattengillSemmens, PhD, REEF Co-Executive Director. Semmens suggests taking on the Century Dive challenge to spot 100 or more fish species that are on display, or becoming a marine detective and tracking invasive lionfish. The activities at REEF promise a fun, free, hands-on adventure for all.

REEF (Reef Environmental Education Foundation) is based in the oldest original building still located in the Upper Florida Keys, and it has an outdoor oasis and Native Plants and Heritage Trail. It fights to conserve marine environments everywhere, and their programs include educational experiences about fish identification and citizen science, especially regarding the lionfish, a very hungry species that has been causing havoc along the coast.

The April Lionfish Derby competition challenges local fishers to catch as many as they can, and many local restaurants have added them to their menu. Give them a try if you get the chance! reef.org

Cuban Creations Miami’s mouthwatering Cuban food

While the cuisine has spread far and wide, there is no place in America with more authentic Cuban food than Miami. The city is home to the largest population of Cuban diaspora in the country, many of whom have shared their food and culture at local establishments for generations.

CAFECITO

The hallmark of great Cuban cuisine is a hot, cheap and delicious cup of cafecito, a type of espresso that originated in Cuba. Traditionally served in a tiny paper cup, this potent beverage is the fuel that gets many a Miami resident through their day.

The beverage is often dispensed at windowside store-fronts, where locals engage in quick consumption and light conversation. Coined by Versailles’ founder Felipe Valls Sr., these “ventanitas,” or small windows, have become the norm for coffee drinkers in Miami.

Cafe con Leche and Cafecitos are staples of the Cuban breakfast repertoire, as are pastries and good conversation

The namesake window that started the trend, La Ventanita, is still open, serving Cuban coffee alongside the restaurant’s delicious guayaba and guava filled postres.

Another popular spot near Coconut Grove, Mary’s Coin Laundry has a ventanita that’s open 24/7. Travelers and locals alike can sip coffee, eat a sandwich (try the Pan con Bistec) and wash their dirty clothes at any hour of the day.

CUBANO SANDWICH

Maybe the most popular item from the Cuban culinary repertoire, the Cubano Sandwich is a deli mainstay worldwide, thanks to the delicious flavor combination of succulent pork and tangy pickle.

Old’s Havana Cuban Bar & Cocina serves the sandwich with no frills, just ham, pork, Swiss cheese and pickles pressed into bread that’s been slathered in mustard. Located on the famous “Calle Ocho” of Little Havana, it’s also popular for it’s beautiful and energetic decor and the lively atmosphere. Their cocktails are so good that many refer to the establishment as “La Casa del Mojito.”

Also located in the Little Havana district, Sanguich draws crowds daily with its elevated take on the classic sando. The meat is brined before it’s cooked, the lechon is marinated for a full day and the bread soaked in rendered lard. Paired with the Timba — a Guava and Cream Cheese milkshake — it’s one of the most decadent meals you can find in the city.

CUBAN FRITA

A unique Cuban spin on a hamburger, The Cuban Frita takes the classic ground beef patty; douses it with chorizo spices; piles on crispy potato fries, cooked and raw onions; and stuffs it all inside delicious Cuban bread.

The self proclaimed king of the Frita is none other than El Rey de las Fritas. Featured on Food Network, the Travel Channel and others, this burger joint has garnered international acclaim thanks in no small part to the secret blend of spices that pack each patty with flavor. While their Original Frita Cubana is delicious, the Suprema

somehow improves upon the masterpiece with toppings of fried cheese, sweet plantains and a fried egg.

El Rey is not without its competitors, and one establishment has been coming for the king for the last 50 years. At El Mago de las Fritas, the same formula that revolutionized the hamburger is applied to hotdogs, creating a Cuban Frita spin on the American classic that has earned rave reviews and leagues of loyal customers.

Both establishments share an approachability common at most Cuban restaurants in Miami. All are neighborhood establishments happy to share their culture with the greater community, and it’s a culture that their community has been more than happy to embrace… and eat!

The Frita has its roots in Cuba but gained huge popularity in Miami’s Little Havana, where it became a staple of Cuban-American street food culture.

Nashville’s Sweet Surprises

Where Music City’s undiscovered melodies come to life

Think Nashville is just about honkytonks and hot chicken? Think again. From intimate jazz clubs to floating concerts on the Cumberland River, from lush indoor gardens to the legacy of the Man in Black, Music City serves up experiences that have visitors falling in love with its lesser-known rhythms.

RUDY’S JAZZ ROOM

One step across the threshold of Rudy’s Jazz Room and guests are immersed in an intimate and authentic jazz experience that captures the history and spirit of traditional jazz clubs. Fifty seats are scattered throughout the space, including comfy armchairs, couches, group tables and barstools. Soft, colorful Moroccan lighting and Persian rugs give the club a warm and welcoming vibe. Chef and coowner Michael Braden believes great food and drink should always accompany great music. So, in addition to local brews and fun Prohibition-style cocktails, guests can enjoy delicious New Orleans-style dishes like steaming Creole seafood pies, shrimp po’ boys, crawfish grilled cheese, gumbo and flaky beignets. With limited seating, it’s best to make a reservation in advance. rudysjazzroom.com

GENERAL JACKSON SHOWBOAT

All aboard one of the largest showboats ever built. Evoking the opulence and grandeur of the Victorian-era South with four massive decks offering gorgeous Cumberland River views, this 300-foot paddlewheel riverboat has been the crown jewel of Gaylord Opryland Resort for 40 years. Once seated at a table inside the dazzling two-story theater, guests feast on mouthwatering Southern dishes prepared by the resort’s award-winning chefs, as some of Nashville’s most talented performers steal the show. During lunch or dinner cruises, guests are taken on a musical journey that covers the energetic tunes of bluegrass, traditional and contemporary music. The energy is infectious as fiddles blaze, dancers twirl in stunning costumes and gifted singers bring Tennessee’s musical legacy to life. generaljackson.com

ATRIUMS OF GAYLORD OPRYLAND RESORT

What started as a visionary horticulturist’s dream in the 1980s has bloomed into a nine-acre paradise considered among the most exquisite year-round interiorscapes in the world — featuring 50,000 tropical plants and rare international blooms. Each garden is

JOHNNY CASH MUSEUM & STORE

Top off a trip to Nashville with a visit to the city’s shrine to the Man in Black. The Johnny Cash Museum takes visitors on an intimate journey through Cash’s remarkable life, from his humble beginnings as a music-loving working man to his final, haunting cover of “Hurt,” recorded months before his death. Created by Bill Miller, Cash’s close personal friend of 30 years, this isn’t your typical music museum. Yes, it’s packed with treasures one expects to find, like Cash’s Martin guitar and that famous denim jumpsuit from his San Quentin Prison performance. But there are personal touches that paint a more complete picture of the extraordinary man he was: things like his childhood marbles, handwritten notes

from his Air Force days and even his personal Bible. Visit the Sun Diner next door for breakfast or brunch. Their “Let’s Do the Twist” Crème Brulée French Toast is not to be missed! johnnycashmuseum.com and thesundiner.com

ASHEVILLE

Make lasting memories this summer by booking a guided experience

While experiencing the great outdoors in Asheville is memorable by itself, the beautiful mountain city offers several unique outdoor experiences that will make one’s trip to the area even more unforgettable.

Asheville Wellness Tours offers a variety of experiences that allow guests to connect more deeply with themselves and with nature, including three-hour morning and sunset Mountaintop Yoga Hikes. Guests will hike one mile to the summit of Bearwallow Mountain, where they can take in the view — including nearby grazing cattle — during an hourlong yoga class that’s open to all skill levels. Guided Forest Bathing & Nature Therapy Retreats are also available, including three-hour private Firefly Forest Bathing Retreats through the end of July that take hikers into a forest to engage in mindfulness-based practices while marveling at Mother Nature’s light show. Groups can even book an overnight retreat and spend the night in a historic on-site cabin overlooking a peaceful lake. ashevillewellnesstours.com

Another unique hiking experience can be booked through Wild Goods. Led by husband-and-wife team Luke and Natalie, the local foraging company typically offers two-hour foraging classes on the third Sunday of each month at rotating locations.

Navitat Canopy Adventures’ Mountaintop Tour features
Enjoy a hands-on experience with a bird of prey during Curtis Wright Outfitters’ falconry class

Wild Goods sells its foraging finds at five local farmers markets, including the River Arts District Farmers Market every Wednesday afternoon and the Asheville City Market every Saturday morning.

Students will not only be on the lookout for edible and medicinal mushrooms and plants during their leisurely hike, but also spend time learning about the woodland treasures’ historical uses, mushroom foraging safety and sustainable harvesting techniques. wildgoods.org

One of Asheville’s most exhilarating experiences is held at multiple locations, too — including The Inn on Biltmore Estate. Curtis Wright Outfitters offers 90-minute falconry classes led by a licensed falconer. Open to six handlers and six observers, each class not only teaches guests ages 8 and older about the birds of prey used in falconry, but also how to handle them. Participants will then be given the use of a leather glove so they can have one of two birds safely land on their fist after watching the magnificent creatures fly from tree to tree. curtiswrightoutfitters.com/falconry

For those who would rather be soaring through the trees themselves, Navitat Canopy Adventures has a 100-percent tree-based ziplining course — the Treetop Express — that includes three ziplines ranging from 50 to 900 feet long and a

Customer safety is Allegiant®’s first concern. Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following:

• Location of the nearest emergency exit

• Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed

• Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency

SEAT BELTS

Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards.

CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS

Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT" from the manufacturer. Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt.

The use of small cameras or mobile devices for photography and video is permitted onboard provided you keep the purpose of your photography and video to capturing personal events. Photographing or recording other customers or airline personnel without their express consent is prohibited. Airline personnel reserve the right to prohibit photos and videos onboard the aircraft if it becomes a disturbance to them or other passengers.

Celebrating World Wish Month

In partnership with Make-A-Wish®

At Allegiant, creating opportunities for accessible air travel is embedded in our DNA. In fact, helping to facilitate air travel for people facing serious medical challenges is one of the core pillars of our Corporate Giving program.

As a proud national partner of Make-A-Wish® since 2012, we celebrate World Wish Month – the time of year when we rally together to celebrate the nonprofit’s life-changing mission to create unforgettable experiences for children battling critical illnesses.

This movement is commemorated on April 29, the day the first wish was granted 45 years ago.

Every wish can give a child the pivotal hope they need to keep fighting, making a real difference in improving health outcomes for many children. With nearly 77% of wishes involving air travel, Allegiant’s commitment to Make-A-Wish is a critical resource to making these experiences a reality.

Over the years, we have donated over $32 million to the organization through in-kind flights and sponsorships. We have flown more than 2,000 Wish Kids and their families to their dream destinations, making a transformative difference in their lives.

At airports across our network, you can see the

pride we take in our partnership as our Make-AWish livery aircraft flies passengers every day.

The blue and white colors of the Make-A-Wish brand, with stars encircling the fuselage of an Airbus A320, starts in front of the plane’s wings and stretches across half of the fuselage down to the tail, where it meets the orange of Allegiant’s iconic sunburst logo.

While on board, passengers can snack for a cause by purchasing our inflight Wingz Kids Snack Pack, a convenient and tasty option for kids. With every purchase, we donate $1 to Make-A-Wish. This initiative has not only helped us bring smiles to children onboard but has also helped us donate over $1.1 million to the nonprofit since we began selling these snack packs in 2014.

However, our dedication goes beyond wheels up. At our headquarters in Las Vegas, we are neighbors with Make-A-Wish Nevada. In 2017, we donated office space at our headquarters to the local chapter, providing a rent-free home so they can focus more of their resources on fulfilling wishes and spreading joy. The 7,000-square-foot office building also provides a sanctuary for children, known as The Whishing Place, where kids are encouraged to play and dream.

Nonstop Customer dedication

Customer Experience Excellence Award

At Allegiant, we’re committed to helping you live your best Nonstop Life. While our affordable, nonstop service plays a key role, it’s our people — especially the friendly faces you meet in the sky — who bring the Allegiant experience to life.

Each year, frontline team members are nominated by their colleagues for our Customer Experience Excellence Award. This award recognizes those who go above and beyond to create memorable moments for our passengers.

This spring, we had the honor of welcoming the 2024 award recipients to our headquarters in Las Vegas to enjoy a weekend of celebration — including exciting Vegas experiences, an awards ceremony, and even some time cheering on our local professional sports teams.

Our 2024 Customer Experience Excellence Award winners’ stories touched our hearts, and we think you’ll love them too. Here are a few inspiring examples of how Allegiant team members go above and beyond to serve you — our valued passengers — every day:

DAVID ROWLEY, CAPTAIN ASHVILLE, NC

“After a long day, the crew was ready to go home, but one passenger in a wheelchair needed assistance. Captain David stepped in without hesitation and personally escorted her through the airport. Her smile was bright as he turned a potential long wait into a memorable moment.”

CHARLES ISGRIGG, STATIONS LEADER LAS VEGAS, NV

“Last summer, Charles Isgrigg assisted an Allegiant flight diverted due to weather, even though he was off duty. He drove nearly two hours to manage boarding, coordinate with the crew and handle refueling. Thanks to his efforts, the flight was able to depart that evening — sparing passengers from an unexpected overnight delay.”

VALERIANO SOTO, CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT

HARRISBURG, PA

“Val is hands down the most efficient and effective gate agent I’ve encountered in my four and a half years at Allegiant! Val embodies the right attitude, a strong work ethic and an incredible commitment to teamwork.”

These stories of serving our passengers are the heartbeat of why we do what we do.
