TLCA Committees
Committees in Action Recently the TLCA Board of Directors authorized the creation of two new Ad Hoc Committees. Ad Hoc is a Latin phrase and literally means «for this» and in English this almost always means «for this specific purpose.” An Ad hoc committee is a group of people assembled to address a specific issue, task, or objective.
MARINA COMMITTEE
The Marina Committee was formed to address several issues and suggest improvements to the operation and maintenance of the Marina.
The Marina Committee has been very busy lately getting ready for the start of this year’s boating season. The Committee met on March 30th, and again on April 10th at the marina to survey the area. T.J. Edwards, who handles installation and removal of our docks, will try to get them in earlier than May 15th, if weather permits.
The Board has approved increasing the boat size limit to 26 feet, and the Committee will recommend that the Board allow user installed hardware, such as cleats, subject to guidelines. Two 4-kayak racks are planned for the area adjoining the launch ramp, and more may be added if there is sufficient community interest. The access ramp to the “D” Dock, which has been the subject of many complaints, is in the process of being repaired, with steps and a railing to make it more accessible. The Committee is also considering the addition of personal watercraft docks as a future improvement to the marina. The Public Works Committee is also working on improved lighting and surveillance cameras for the marina area. PA Fish and Game Commission Fishing Summary/Boating Handbooks are now available in the Chalet. Boaters are encouraged to pick one up. Our marina is a tremendous asset to the Tanglwood Lakes community, and we are committed to managing it to the best of our ability, for the benefit of not only the boat owner who dock there, but the community as a whole.
BEACH IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE
This Ad Hoc Committee requested members through an email blast to get a diverse representative group from the community. It has developed a Mission Statement and Objectives as follows:
Mission: The Beach Property is one of the most valuable amenities of the Community and should reflect the importance to the Community for socializing and recreation. The Committee’s mission is to improve and identify new amenities for the Beach property including safety, access, structural and recreational issues. The Beach property is defined as including the beach, the parking areas, the gazebo, the bath house, and surrounding areas up to Route 507. Objectives:
-- Identify needed recreational improvements by requesting input from the Community through: -- Surveying the Community; -- Soliciting suggestion submissions; and -- Holding public meeting. -- Identify needed safety and access improvements by coordinating with the Community Manager, Public Safety Committee and Public Works Committee and Maintenance. -- Develop cost estimates for decided improvements. -- Develop time line for completion of improvements.
The first meeting of this group was on April 24. The Mission and objectives were presented to the new members with an enthusiastic response. All were in agreement that the Beach Area is a top priority of our amenities and needs to have improved upgrading and attention in order to meet the needs of our community. A number of possible improvements and additions were discussed that will be explored by the group in conjunction with the Public Safety and the Public Works Committees. The Beach Area is a valuable resource with an expanding potential to improve our recreational choices.
