As a board, we have been busy with the several projects you have seen around the community. The new pool, splash pad and playground area to name a few. Keeping up to date on our community-wide amenities makes living at Pocono Farms a community like no other in the area.
As we move into the warmer months, we look forward to seeing everyone not only at the new pool, but at the lake and beach area that was renovated last year. We will again be providing kayaks and paddle boards for members to enjoy free of charge. As a reminder, please make sure you have your up to date 2023 badges with you when you enjoy our public areas as they will be checked.
Our golf course has been up and running since early April. As a resident in good standing, you do not have to be a golf member to enjoy our course. We have very affordable Resident Non-Member golfing rates. Stop by the Pro Shop for more information.

Fireworks are prohibited except by a permit in accordance with the laws of Pennsylvania. Fireworks are prohibited throughout the community (Section 111 – S).
Get outside and enjoy everything Pocono Farms has to offer, it’s a great time of year to try something new!
Now that winter looks to be behind us, we look forward to Spring and all that comes with gearing up for our busy season. Instead of snow removal, we now switch our efforts to getting the outdoor amenities open.
As I write this article on April 5, 2023, we are gearing up to open the golf course on Friday, April 7. Mother Nature was kind to us this winter from the golf course perspective. We removed our greens covers on Monday, March 27 and the turf was in great shape. Getting the course open in good shape sets the tone for the entire summer season. It allows us to really push the marketing products and expose potential members to the course early in the season. Typically, our course takes a little more time to green up just due to the temperatures in Tobyhanna coming out of winter. Coming out of winter in great shape is great for everyone as it comes with many positive benefits. We will be extending the hours of The Lakeside Grill & Pub and opening the 9th Hole Grill on the golf course.
As the weather continues to warm up and as time permits, the maintenance staff will start to clean up other amenities in preparation for the summer season. These amenities include: the bocce court, sand volleyball, shuffleboard and the tennis courts. If you would like to fish in the lake, a valid PA fishing license is required by those ages 16 and up along with a 2023 PFCCA amenity sticker. Your operation assessment pays for the treatment of the lake and the stocking of the fish we put in the lake each year. A fishing license can be purchased at the sporting goods section at Walmart.
Once your dues are paid in full, please remember to stop by the Member Services office to have your ID’s updated with the current year sticker. As the weather warms up, more members are out
and about enjoying the amenities we maintain for you. Our Public Safety staff will be out there ensuring that you, as dues paying members of the Association, are actually the ones using your amenities. They will ask to see your badge and that you have your badge with you. This is not meant to harass you, but to ensure that you are the ones using your amenities. We are not open to the Public. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. We also would like to remind everyone that when you are walking your dog, they must be on a leash and cannot be on the PFCCA amenities. In addition, as we exit winter and we finally get to open our windows, please be considerate of your neighbors and how far noise travels when there are no leaves on the trees. We all can appreciate good music, but we all must be mindful of our neighbors.
SPECIAL NOTE - We have ordered news signs that will go near member access areas around the lake. The signs will state to not feed the ducks/geese. It may seem harmless, but it creates sanitary issues for our members, their children, grandchildren and guests. It is also not healthy for the ducks/ geese to be fed bread, cereal, crackers or any other store-bought food items.
Please review the Pocono Farms website and Weathervane to stay informed on all the activities and events going on around Pocono Farms.
When May arrives, it means Spring Training is over and “honey-do” season has arrived. All of the projects that your wife or significant other has been accruing over the winter are now being put in a “most important to be done” order. With the possibility of the “bad weather” excuse being eliminated, there is really no place to hide. Just give in, you are going to lose anyway. Start putting the tool and supplies list together. Once you have negotiated the number of hours per project against the number of hours on the golf course, you can begin in earnest. First step, does anything need a permit or review by the code official? Lately, houses have been reported for not being earth tone colors. For any tree removal, you better check with Artie. Permits are required when a tree is over a certain diameter. Over the years, standards were established so that we can do our best to keep this community a little jewel in the country. Now as we see the area amid commercial growth, it really will take all of us to maintain this spot that we all love to enjoy.
Recently, I was concerned when one of our long-time volunteers did not answer the phone after numerous calls. After several hours and additional calls, I thought I should have someone check to see if all was okay. I was advised to call the police non-emergency number, 570-992-9911, and request a wellness check. Within a very short time, I received a call from the policeman who said this person was having phone problems and everything was all right. When I tried to apologize for calling in a false alarm, he said they were happy to help and to never hesitate to call when there is a concern. As I am getting older and living alone, I have become more aware that if a fall, accident or a medical emergency occurs
May, at last, has arrived and along with it comes our busy season here at Pocono Farms. The official opening of all our amenities, the Annual Fishing Derby and more! I expect this year to be one of our busiest. Permit wise, we have had no rest. There have been so many permits submitted already. When you are filling out your tree permit, please remember to mark the trees that you want us to look at. I hate to hold up the process, but I cannot issue the permit if I do not know which trees you want to remove.
As you all know, our golf course is now open. As such, the golf course is for golfers only. There is a common misconception that is, if the gates are closed you can go for a walk, run or you can bring Lassie or Scooby Doo out there for a nice stroll because the course is closed. That is incorrect. So please, unless you are out playing 9 or 18, you are not supposed to be on the golf course.
The time has come for lawn mowing to begin. Trust me, I can hear all the heavy sighs as you read that. I did it too when I was servicing my mowers in preparation for this season. Alas it is something that cannot be ignored. Please be mindful that even though you may not be here, the grass still grows and must be maintained. By now you should have cleaned your swales to allow for the free flow of water. Remember that April showers bring May flowers. The more debris that is left in the swale will only add to the potential flooding during heavy rain. So please, for your sake and your neighbors, keep those areas free of leaves, sticks and other debris.
Finally, the bears are voracious eaters after coming out of hibernation. Remember that you should not put your cans at the roadside sooner than the night before pickup. It only gives the animals more time to sample your cooking. Once the cans are emptied, you have until Wednesday to pull the cans back. They are not to be left at the roadside. If the animals do get into your trash, it is your responsibility to clean it up.
As always, should you have questions or concerns, feel free to ask. We are just a phone call away.

it may take hours before the problem is discovered. Several years ago, the Crime Watch Committee wanted to set up a voluntary call system. However, legal problems prevented it from being instituted. If you know an old friend or neighbor that lives alone, it is a good idea to give them a call every once in a while just to say hello.
Our volunteers rode for about 126 hours in March. Several of the volunteers drove multiple shifts. We always have room for more drivers! If you are interested in volunteering, call the office at 570-894-4435 or leave Russ Kelly a message at 570-894-4034.

As we prepare for the upcoming summer season, there is one question that our operations staff will ask of you and that is, “Do you have your PFCCA badge with the current year’s amenity sticker?”. This could be when you go to the beach, the Lakeside Grill & Pub, the outdoor pool or any PFCCA owned amenity.
• They provide the PFCCA staff with verification that you and your family are members in good standing and that you are paid in full for the current year’s dues assessment.

• Due to PFCCA not being a gated community, the ID badges and amenity stickers provide verification that our members and their guests are actually the ones using the amenities that you pay to maintain. We are not open to the public, and checking badges is our way of ensuring that the general public is not using your amenities.
• Although we typically ask for reservations for lunch, dinner or a themed event, we will also ask you for your badge once you enter the Lakeside Grill & Pub. Our liquor license is a Club license, which means that you must be a member of PFCCA, a golf member or a guest in the presence of a member to be within the Clubhouse, banquet room or The Lakeside Grill & Pub. We cannot and do not serve the public as it will jeopardize our liquor license.
• Your ID badge must be updated each year with the current year’s amenity sticker once your assessments are paid in full. If you are asked for your ID, “I just didn’t have time to get them, or you should know who I am”, is not a valid reason not to have them. Our staff is only performing their job and that is to make sure that our members are those using your amenities. You cannot assume that our staff should know you or that they can look it up.
• Please do not be offended when one of our staff members asks for your ID badge. It is virtually impossible for all our staff, especially the seasonal staff, to know who every single member is. Please know that our efforts in checking for valid badges is to protect the amenities that you pay to maintain.
• We do understand that we have some staff and some members who have known each other for a long time. We still ask those members to have their badges with them.
• With our outdoor pool and new splash pad scheduled to open for Memorial Weekend, it is advisable that you plan ahead and get your ID badges updated with the current year sticker as soon as possible. The Member Services office is closed on Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day Weekend, and you will not be able to get your badges updated on those days.
If you have any questions about your badge, amenity stickers being updated or guests passes, please stop by or contact our Member Services Office located at 182 Lake Road, Tobyhanna, PA.

Happy spring and welcome back to golf season! With opening day on April 7th, we have had a good start to the 2023 season. Hopefully everyone is ready for some exciting golf events this year. We will be having all our regular tournaments and will be bringing back the Luau to spice things up in the heat of summer. For our new members and those who may not have participated before, this is a fun event for everyone. The Luau includes Hawaiian themed golf attire, cart decorating and a foursome of your choice. It will end pool side, showcasing our brand-new pool. Everyone will have a chance to enjoy Hawaiian themed food, entertainment and games. We hope you join us for this fun event!
On a different note, the golf committee and staff are working on putting together another championship event. It will most likely be a member-guest event. This will not replace the one we already have but add an additional event likely later in the year. If it works out, more details will be provided soon. Our
We would like to acknowledge all our wonderful community members who volunteered to participate in our Annual Community Clean Up Day. Thank you for your help in keeping our community beautiful, clean and litter free!
tournaments always have good turnouts, but we would like to see new faces come out and give them a shot. Come and enjoy what the course has to offer and some friendly competition.
I would also like to remind everyone that our junior program will be starting soon. If you have a youngster that might be interested, please stop by the Pro Shop and talk with our PGA Professional and junior coach, Kyle Monahan. This is a great way to introduce a child to the great game of golf.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone to take a moment, when possible, to fill in a divot or fix a ball mark. Even though it may not be yours, keeping this course in good shape is what makes it stand out among others. From the practice green to eighteenth green, our superintendent and staff work continuously to provide us with the best conditions. With a little help from all of us here at PFCCA, we can continue to stay on top year after year. I hope everyone enjoys the 2023 season. See you out there.
