From Your Board of Directors

I hope everyone is getting excited about the warm weather and starting to plan summer vacations and activities. The warm season in the Poconos is short, so be sure to get out and enjoy! I would like to take the opportunity to mention the excellent job PFCCA staff are doing for our association. The Valentine’s Weekend Dinner, Easter Bunny Brunch and Mardi Gras Celebration were all an enormous success! I encourage you to come out and enjoy the activities and experience the fun and social aspects of our wonderful community. I strongly believe, every dollar you spend in our community is a dollar benefiting the health and vitality of our association.

The golf course opened in April and is looking great. Hats off to our golf staff caring for the course and planning for the season. It appears, 2023 is on track with a record number of members and events. In addition to golf, everyone is anticipating opening day of the new pool. The transformation from last year to current is amazing. As of the writing of this article, the pool remains on track for a successful opening and is one of the largest investments in our community in some time. I am positive everyone will be impressed, and the anticipation was well worth the wait.

ANNUAL MEETING

Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:00am

From the General Manager

I would personally like to thank all of those that ordered the weather for the Memorial Weekend. I cannot remember any Holiday weekend in recent years that had three beautiful days as we experienced.

The weather could not have been better, which led to all amenity areas seeing record numbers of members and their guests. The outdoor pool was the hit of the weekend. There were so many positive comments on the way in which the pool and splash pad turned out. There were a few challenges that we had to deal with, and we are currently working on those. Overall, it was nice to achieve our targeted re-opening date. On behalf of the Board and pool renovation committee, we would like to thank the membership for their patience and understanding as we worked through the pool renovation. A new facility was delivered that will add years of value to the amenity offerings at Pocono Farms!

The food & beverage operation, the golf course and the activities/ recreation programs offered over the weekend were well attended and busy over the three-day weekend. It was great to see so many members and their guests out enjoying everything that Pocono Farms has to offer. It takes a lot of work to make these weekends happen and the staff and management team should be congratulated on their efforts. Our reward is seeing the happy faces of our members.

Memorial Day Weekend sets the pace for what we believe will be a GREAT summer at Pocono Farms.

Enjoy your Summer Season!!

Neighborhood Watch

June is the official beginning of summer! The kids get out of school, plans for get-a-ways are being made, the barbecues are ready to go, and the relatives are calling to make week-end dates. Summer is here again. Some of us have been able to get over and look at our new pool and surroundings. It looks like the job was able to get done in time for this season. I am sure those of us who use it, will find it worth the wait.

One of the other things that happens in June, letters go out to residents that are not keeping up with the grass. Usually, yard cleanup is done by the end of May. So now, to keep from getting one of Artie’s letters, just keep the grass at reasonable height and you will never hear a word. Lately, we have reported some unwanted trash drops along our roadways. A car bumper was left on Wildflower and a television was dumped on Kilmer near Goose Pond. I would hope that these items were not dropped off by a resident. We like to think anyone living here would not want to trash their own community.

Generally, there have been few serious reports so far this year. Items like uncovered propane tanks or garbage cans being put out to soon or taken in to late are the most we hear. The garbage cans generally are the biggest problem. With the bears now up and active, an early garbage can on the roadside almost guarantees garbage strewn about a neighborhood. Once that happens, only the neighbors will clean it up, there is no help coming from anywhere else.

To some of us, summer means bigger projects around the house. Maybe a new paint job, rebuild a deck or some tree work. Remember, these larger projects usually require a review by our code official, so before you get into it, stop in and see Artie, he will get you off on the right foot.

Next month, the crime watch volunteers will have their annual luncheon at the Club House. It may be the one time of year that some of them get to see each other. We generally get a review of the happenings in The Farms by our official, and sometimes a

June 2023, the midpoint of the year. It is hard to believe that half of the year is gone already, how time does fly. We have received many questions concerning one item in the Building Code. My article for June will deal with the topic of Solar Panels. Residents of Pocono Farms are allowed to have solar panels installed, so long as they are installed in accordance with the rules and regulations.

Residents often ask how to go about getting Solar Panels. Well, that is the simplest part of the process. You can contact any solar provider you choose, and they will provide you with options. Plans are drawn up and permits are applied for. Most of the time, the solar provider will pay for the township permit, the Pocono Farms permit usually is paid for by the homeowner. Although, you can always try to negotiate that with your Solar provider. The plans are then submitted to our department for review, to determine if the plans that the solar provider has given you are allowed.

The rules and regulations state that solar panels cannot be ground mounted, only roof mounted. Also, that the panels can only be rear facing. This means that the sections of your roof that face the road cannot have solar panels on them. They also state that trees cannot be cut down for the sake of solar collection. Since panels can only be rear facing, homes located on the golf course cannot have solar panels. 90 percent of the plans sent to me must be revised in such a way to conform to the rules and regulations.

The change that happens most often is the reduction in the number of panels. Once the revisions are made, then the process is streamlined through. That really is all there is to it. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We are always just a phone call away.

The Importance of PFCCA ID Badges and Current Year Stickers

As we prepare for the upcoming summer season, there is one question that our operations staff will ask of you and that is, “Do you have your PFCCA badge with the current year’s amenity sticker?”. This could be when you go to the beach, the Lakeside Grill & Pub, the outdoor pool or any PFCCA owned amenity.

Why are PFCCA ID Badges and Current Year’s Amenity Stickers So Important?

• They provide the PFCCA staff with verification that you and your family are members in good standing and that you are paid in full for the current year’s dues assessment.

• Due to PFCCA not being a gated community, the ID badges and amenity stickers provide verification that our members and their guests are actually the ones using the amenities that you pay to maintain. We are not open to the public, and checking badges is our way of ensuring that the general public is not using your amenities.

• Although we typically ask for reservations for lunch, dinner or a themed event, we will also ask you for your badge once you enter the Lakeside Grill & Pub.

Our liquor license is a Club license, which means that you must be a member of PFCCA, a golf member or a guest in the presence of a member to be within the Clubhouse, banquet room or The Lakeside Grill & Pub. We cannot and do not serve the public as it will jeopardize our liquor license.

• Your ID badge must be updated each year with the current year’s amenity sticker once your assessments are paid in full. If you are asked for your ID, “I just didn’t have time to get them, or you should know who I am”, is not a valid reason not to have them. Our staff is only performing their job and that is to make sure that our members are those using your amenities. You cannot assume that our staff should know you or that they can look it up.

• Please do not be offended when one of our staff members asks for your ID badge. It is virtually impossible for all our staff, especially the seasonal staff, to know who every single member is. Please know that our efforts in checking for valid badges is to protect the amenities that you pay to maintain.

• We do understand that we have some staff and some members who have known each other for a long time. We still ask those members to have their badges with them.

• With our outdoor pool and new splash pad scheduled to open for Memorial Weekend, it is advisable that you plan ahead and get your ID badges updated with the current year sticker as soon as possible. The Member Services office is closed on Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day Weekend, and you will not be able to get your badges updated on those days.

PFCCA Community Garden

It is rather difficult to write an article about the Community Garden on May 1st when it is still cold, damp and rainy. To date, eighteen boxes have been assigned but we hope that the number of boxes will be higher by the time you read this article and that the garden will look considerably better than it does today. For those of you who are interested in obtaining a box, please see Member Services. Our goal is to have all the boxes filled and maybe even a waiting list like we had in years past.

At our committee meeting held on April 15th, our Board Liaison, Collette Ong, reported that cleanup work on the garden would be completed by the middle of May. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate, and maintenance will be able to complete

JUNE FITNESS CLASS SCHEDULE

Round By Round

CARING FOR THE COURSE

A few extra seconds is all it takes to help keep the course looking and playing its best!

BALL MARK REPAIR

A ball mark repair tool is recommended, but other pointed devices can also be used. Start from the back and sides, gently push and stretch the turf toward the center. Avoid lifting and twisting the turf. Use your putter to slightly tap down the mark. Remember that the ball marks are often far from where the ball lies, so check the front of the green. Fix your ball mark and the marks of others.

DIVOT REPAIR

Replacing the divot is the best option, assuming that the divot has some soil attached. Without soil, the divot quickly dries out and it will be pulled out of the ground during the next mowing. If the divot cannot be replaced, fill the divot with material provided by the maintenance staff. Do not overfill divots, this results in a sand mound that can dull or damage the mowing units.

With a few short and east steps, you can help to keep our course beautiful all season long!

Fit and Fun

Oh my!! Memorial Day weekend was FANTASTIC! I must admit I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, but I owe a huge THANK YOU to all those who volunteered, I appreciate every one of you.

June is going to be an exciting month with new classes on the Fitness Schedule and Pickle Ball 101 on the courts.

I am looking forward to teaching a RipStix class on Monday nights at 5:30PM. Like the Pound workouts, we will dance to the beat of a different drum. New playlists, new moves and a whole new level of FUN! I

couple of residents who are avid Pickle Ball players and they have been generous enough to volunteer their time on the courts. They will give advice on equipment to use, go over rules of play and eventually we will have a King and Queen of the Court tournament. I have been able to set up new pickle ball nets, so the courts are fresh for the summer season! Our 2023 Bocce Season is right around the corner, and we are looking for substitutes and permanent players. If you missed the meeting and are interested in playing, it is not too late!
