From Your Board of Directors

As you read this, we still have some good summer weeks ahead of us to enjoy our wonderful community. I am sure by now many of you have already enjoyed our beautiful new pool. What a great enhancement for the residents of Pocono Farms. Speaking of improvements, I hope you have had a chance to check out the new playground. I took three of my grandchildren there recently and I was very impressed by not only all the new equipment, but also the overall landscaping that was done. All these upgrades were done without having to borrow any money! Great job by our management team!

In July we had our annual meeting. Unfortunately, we only had 51 members attend so we could not have an official meeting. For those unable to attend, your community continues to be in solid financial condition. Our management team has plans to continue enhancements to our community in the coming year. In the coming months you will receive specifics as to what projects will be started and completed in 2023/2024.

We continue to need members to join committees! These committees give important feedback to the Board and Management that help guide future decisions. Please consider volunteering for a committee to help Pocono Farms continue to move in a positive direction.

Finally, we have many activities planned in the coming months for people of all ages. Please check them out on the website, Weathervane or the emails that are regularly sent out. Please plan to enjoy these various events with your friends and neighbors. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

ANNUAL MEETING

Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00am

From the General Manager

I would like to thank those members who took the time to attend the Annual Meeting of PFCCA, Inc on Saturday July 15th. Although a quorum was not met, and no action could be taken on any of the agenda items, those in attendance did receive an update from the Board President – Annette Doerr and the Board Treasurer – Bill Weimer Jr. The board also fielded questions from those members in attendance.

Those candidates who received the most votes for the 3 open positions on the board for the next three-year term were announced. I would like to thank all four candidates who submitted their applications to volunteer their time serving on the Board of Pocono Farms.

As a reminder, the committee applications are due in August. If you are interested in serving on a particular committee, please fill out your application and return it to the Member Services office by August 15th. The new committee term starts in September and runs through August of 2024. Committee meetings are usually one hour per month. Applications are available online and at the Member Services office.

Thank you to all of our members and their guests who came out to support the 4th of July festivities. We received many positive comments regarding our staff, the events/activities, the Food & Beverage, golf operations and of course the great fireworks display.

With the 4th of July falling on a Thursday in 2024, we have not confirmed a date for our fireworks show. Please monitor your emails as we know that our members like to make their plans to attend the fireworks show. As soon as we confirm the date with the fireworks display company, we will share it with you.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!!

Neighborhood Watch

Hopefully by the time you are reading this, summer is in full bloom. June was so wet in the last few weeks, and July started out the same. Nature has a way of evening things out, so maybe we will be back to normal in August.

July can be a busy month with the July 4th holiday, races at Pocono and our Annual Meeting. August means the new Board of Directors and committees will be getting the new terms going. Getaway vacations and trips to the shore will fill some calendars. College freshman will be getting ready to start the next phase of their lives. The grass usually does not grow as fast in August, so maybe a little more free time can be had. With that rainy spell in June and early July, it was hard to keep up with the grass cutting. I am sure some high grass letters did not go out for a while from our code official.

We continue to see weekend users putting full garbage cans out early, resulting in garbage being spilled in the road or on the property by bears or other animals. Owners and the administration are going to have to see if they can find a solution to this common problem.

In June, the volunteers drove about 142 hours through the farms. These hours reached only because several drivers volunteer for multiple shifts. This gray-haired brigade is always looking for a new member. We tire more easily now. Think about joining us for a day, a month or more. Call the office at 570-894-4435, leave a message for Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034, or talk to Artie Furman, our security official, all will be glad to help you get started!

Safety

It is hard to believe, but August is here, the proverbial dog days of summer. It also means we are in the third quarter of the year. However, you say it, it is going by fast. We have been busy patrolling and trying to bring everything we can into compliance with the rules and regulations of Pocono Farms. Everything you see including high grass, garbage, abandoned vehicles and cans left at curbside, we see it too and take all the appropriate measures to rectify the situation.

Something I have written about before but felt I must bring up again is the issuing of permits. When any homeowner wants to make improvements to their home, typically a permit is necessary. Some of those improvements also require the homeowner to obtain a Township permit as well. Always get your Township permit first, because if for some reason they say no, we cannot say yes.

Friday 5:00PM – 8:00PM

Sunday 9:00AM – 3:00PM

Some of these permits are free and some have a fee involved. Some examples of free permits include roof replacement, dumpster for clean ups, driveway, fence, siding, painting and so on. Some examples of permits that have a fee are deck, solar panels, shed, garage or an addition. Failing to obtain a permit and doing the intended project will result in a fine. Remember, regardless of the project you are doing, simply call my office or Member Services to inquire if a permit is needed.

As always if you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us, we are only a phone call away.

Our Amazing Community

I just wanted to say how happy and proud I am to be living in Pocono Farms. The past few years, and especially this past year, have brought so many incredible and positive changes to The Farms that I felt the need to mention them and to acknowledge those who help make our community the wonderful place it is.

First, second and third… the pool, the pool, the pool! Not only is it beautiful, but it serves every person who wants to take advantage of it. Not only the swim team, but children, teens and adults as well. Kudos to our General Manager Dave, the board and whoever else was involved in that major project. I realize that making sure the pool could be open by Memorial Day Weekend was also weather dependent, but I KNOW that you all did EVERYTHING in

your power to meet that deadline. The fact that the pool opened on schedule shows the tenacity and dedication of those involved in creating our incredible pool area and how hard they worked to satisfy the residents of Pocono Farms. I also want to acknowledge those involved in creating our new playground. How refreshing it is to look at that area and see new, innovative, state-of-the-art equipment for children of all ages. It is certainly another aspect of The Farms that we can all be proud of.

Then there are all the activities our community offers on a weekly basis. I am always amazed when I read the Weekly Update, which thanks to our Communications Coordinator, Brendan Balara and others, gives us a concise list of upcoming events, all in one place. I know Krissie, with her two hats as Fitness Director as well as Recreation Director, coordinates the multiple and varied events offered at Pocono Farms. I don’t know how she does it. I am exhausted just reading the list of activities she is offering our community residents.

Then there is The Clubhouse. Those of you who know me know that The Clubhouse is near and dear to my heart. The food is delicious! I know over the years we have had a variety of chefs, but in my opinion, Chef Tom’s creative and innovative food is so varied that there is always something for everyone. The new menu, as well as the weekly specials, is quite impressive. The restaurant staff is amazing, everything from our Assistant General Manager Katrina’s always successful events to Jamie’s constant involvement to make sure everything runs smoothly! As well as Karen, Maria, Regan and all the other new servers who take care of us every day. Last but not least our wonderful, always multitasking, bartender, Christine, who helps make our visits to The Clubhouse bar so enjoyable and welcoming.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the “glue” of our community, at least the ones I am familiar with; Susan, Maria, Angela, Dave, Deb and, of course, Artie.

I felt the need to write this letter because I am sure the people who run our community always hear the problems and complaints. I want to remind everyone just how special our community is thanks not only to its wonderful residents, but also to all the people who work behind the scenes to make Pocono Farms the incredible community it is.

Krissie Aylward, Artie Furman, and Brendan Balara) has had, may not reflect that. Over the last few weeks, we were able to come back and win 3 games. We would love to blame our number of losses on the weather in the Pocono’s, as it has affected this year’s season tremendously. With all the rain we have gotten on both Wednesdays and Fridays, it is a miracle the bocce court hasn’t been washed away! This season’s players are as enthusiastic as ever, eager to play and ready to win despite the weather. As we head into our 2023 Championship BBQ on Sunday August 13, our top team for the Wednesday league is La Familia Pallino (Ann Marie Toto, Alan Cheverneck, Tanya Cheverneck and Danny Vadella). They are undefeated with 10 out of 10 wins! Despite the weather challenges for the Friday League, Ball Busters (David & Susan Miller, and Laurence & Gayle Paruta) ended the season with a grand total of 9 out of 10 wins. Both of these teams, along with others, will be battling for the 2023 Bocce League Champion title. We are very excited to see who ends up holding those trophies. Of course, if you would like to come and cheer the teams on you are more than welcome to stop by the Bocce court on Sunday. Games start at noon!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer! ASHLYN

PFCCA offers a few different leagues throughout the year. We have a softball league that has just played its second game vs Lake Naomi. We have a great group of adults that are playing currently, and we are always looking to grow the team! So please do not hesitate to sign up for next season! Our Darts league starts in late fall and is held on Sunday afternoons. An informational meeting will be held in late October or early November. So please keep an eye out for that as well.

If you are interested in participating in any of these leagues, please contact Krissie at 570-894-4435x113 or email FitRecDirector@poconofarms.com
