NPS Methodology & Assumptions
1. METHODOLOGY
The Net Promoter Score (NPS) was used to analyse 36 key survey responses in the areas of safeguarding, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, management and leadership NPS is a metric used for measuring customer satisfaction and loyalty: more specifically, the willingness to recommend to others.
The NPS comes from the question: “On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend our organisation to a friend or colleague?” Based on the number a customer chooses, they’re classified into one of the categories in the following table:
Customers who are referring the business/services to other consumers.
Customers who had no issue with their customer experience, but they weren’t exactly impressed enough to become a promoter
Unhappy customers who are unlikely to buy again
The Net Promoter Score is calculated: (% Promoters - % Detractors) *100
Assumptions
As the NCL surveys did not use the standard NPS 10 point scale, in order to calculate the NPS, the 3 and 5 point scales used in the NCL surveys were classified as per the table below:
Description
Scales Defaults (1)
Promoters
Agree & Strongly Agree Yes, definitely In every lesson/ most lessons All the time/ most of the time Yes, with confidence Yes
Passives Don’t Know Yes, mostly In some lessons Some of the time Yes, with reservations Maybe
Detracto
Disagree & Strongly Disagree No
In very few lessons/ none Never/ almost never No No
31 of the 36 questions analysed used the default scale The questions that used the other scales are noted in the table ‘NPS - Summary of Key Responses’.
It is important to note that if the classification of the scale changes, the NPS results change. But, as long as the same classification is used across schools and across years, the results are consistent and can be benchmarked
