Rössing launches construction of six complementary water reservoirs Sharlien Tjambari CNNC Rössing Uranium (Pty) Ltd constructed six water reservoirs at the tune of N$105 million to complement the storage capacity that is provided by NamWater reservoirs. The Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform Calle Schlettwein inaugurated the Rössing Uranium Water Reservoirs yesterday, 28 April.

According to Project Manager, John Moody, the reservoirs have a diameter of 41.27 meters, they are 8.4 meters high, and have a capacity of 10 000m³.

Moody said the earthworks started in May of 2021, the tank foundations started in June of 2021, and the first tank installation was started on 16 August 2021.

Tank one and two were completed in October 2021, and all six were completed in December 2021. All work was done in about four and a half months.

In his keynote address, Schlettwein said, the water reservoirs will enable the mine to continue with production for seven additional days during periods of extended water supply outages. It means that now with the additional

storage capacity can bridge unforeseen extended water interruptions, and the security of water supply is significantly improved for both, the mine, and the community of Arandis.

According to Schlettwein, the unpredictable sulfur outbreaks in the ocean occasionally disrupt the desalination of seawater at the Orano Plant, which is a crucial source of freshwater for the central west coast water region generally and Rössing mine specifically. Schlettwein said, “of the total demand for freshwater, roughly 50 % is satisfied from the desalination plant. This temporary stoppage of supply from the desalination plant does not only put great strain on the security of

Henties Bay community unites in support of LifeLink Emergency Services Eileen van der Schyff

Henties Bay community showed up in numbers The Henties Bay community showed up in numbers to show their support to the town's only emergency service, LifeLink Emergency Rescue Services at the Henties Bay Golf Club on Tuesday this week.

Brian Low of the private owned and run emergency service, who served the community of Henties Bay for the past ten years, recognises the importance of their emergency services to all sectors of the community, regardless of the patient's financial status or ability to pay.

However, Low explained to the community the financial impact of keeping LifeLink's services available to the people of the town.

“We have done our best to provide a good and professional service to everybody. Unfortunately, LifeLink is a business, and we have bills to pay. We are not a charitable organisation and don't get any funding from anywhere. We have tried with the municipality several times to which they responded, the Ministry of Health and Social Services would provide an ambulance for the community of Henties Bay,” Low explained. In Low's opinion it is no longer financially viable to keep the services of LifeLink available in

Henties Bay. In response to this, the Henties Bay community stood together and decided to do what they can to keep this much needed emergency service available to their community. It was decided, for immediate financial assistance, the LifeLink Ambulance Training College account will be used, until a TRUST is in place.

NAMPORT welcomes MSC Orchestra The Namibian Ports Authority (NAMPORT) welcom ed the passenger liner, MSC Orchestra, as it docked at the Port of Walvis Bay on Tuesday, 26 April 2022.

The cruise liner arrived from Cape Town on Tuesday, 26 April with about 1700 passengers, including crew members.

The passengers disembarked and departed on various tourist activities on offer in and around Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.

The cruise returned to Cape Town at 18:00 on Wednesday 27 April and will return to the Port of Walvis Bay on 01 May 2022, with about 2000 passengers.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security on Thursday 21 April received security equipment from the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China.

The equipment is worth N$7 million, includes 1 500 sets of kneecaps, elbow caps, step resistance gloves, rubber batons, helmets, riot shields and 1 600 sets of protective vests was hand over by the Chinese Embassy in Namibia at the Walvis Bay Correctional Facility.

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Daniel Kashikola, said this crucial donation by the Chinese government comes at a time when his ministry is grippling with the increase of incidents of riots, fights and assaults in the Namibian Correctional Facilities.

Kashikola said “In the 2021 and 2022 financial year two riot incidents was recorded at the Correctional Facilities in the Hardap and Keetmanshoop facilities where eight officers and seven inmates were injured.

“This points to the need for this type of protective equipment and it will greatly contribute to our capacity to be to deal with dangerous situations. It would appropriately arm our emergency response units and build their confidence and courage to deal with

Arrows for Wheels Para-archer aims to help needy Eileen van der Schyff Gutsy and courageous para-archer, Katelynn Venter (16), a learner at Walvis Bay Private High School, determined not to let the limitations of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus define her, became one of the Baton Bearers at the Queen's Baton Relay. Katelynn will for the first time in her threeyear participation in archery, use her sport to generate funds to help those in need of a wheelchair.

Confined to a wheelchair for most of her life, Katelynn knows how difficult it is to get around, and made it one of her goals to help others, especially children in similar situations. Katelynn has, during her life, donated six of her own wheelchairs already.

Realising the considerable need of wheelchairs in the community and the limitations of funding from charity organisations and government institutions, in Katelynn's three-year participation in archery, she will for the first time use her sport to generate funds to help the less fortunate.

Katelynn will collaborate with the Lions Club Walvis Bay to ensure all funds generated will be used to purchase new wheel-

Pro-ED hosts AGA rank shoot African Genesis Archery in Namibia (AGA) held ranking shoot on Saturday, 16 April 2022 at Pro-Ed Academy in Swakopmund.

The 1st AGA ranking shoot held in Swakopmund since the start of archery 3 years ago, due to Covid, we were privileged to host our first AGA ranking shoot was held on a cold misty Easter weekend Pro-Ed's rugby field was filled with archers from Privaatskool Moria, Central Elite Archery Club, Berg-Op Akademie, Community Hope School, St George's, Windhoek High School, Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool, Walvis Bay Private High School and host Pro Ed Academy.

A fun filled day where we got to see many new archers and also how the archers were progressing and perform, making new friends, kids were entertained with a jumping castle and Easter egg hunt and lots of nice refreshments prepared by our own parents from Pro-Ed were enjoyed.

Thank you to everyone that came to support our shoot and their kids.

Novanam Monthly Medal at Rossmund A field of more than 30 players including 6 juniors and 4 ladies pitch to play some real Golf at the Novanam Monthly Medal at Rossmund GC last Saturday 23rd April.

Competition was stiff at the top of the men's divisions – this kept the Captain busy at his task and resulted in a few new names coming into the mix.

The Overall Winner with a fantastic 64nett was Mariena Ludwig, who played some great golf and potted a few brilliant putts from off the green.

Mario Polster on 71nett winning a count out to be crowned as the men's winner of the A division and Miguel Tordesillas on 70nett the B Division Men's winner whilst Des Frankfort with 71nett the winner of the men's C Division.

The winner of the Junior Division was Kevin Zhang on a 77nett whilst Bubble Burns won the Ladies Division with an 80nett.

Two x 2 clubs both coming on Number 7 from Des Frankfort and Theo Haimdondi.

Well done to all the winners and each and every one of the competitors and a big word of thanks to the sponsor Novanam.

Rosmund GC was really blessed, not only with some splendid weather but to see both Miguel and Robertha from Novanam there to spend the day with us and to officiate at the prizegiving.

The Prestige Accounting sponsored Golf day at Rossmund GC was played on Wednesday 20 April with the east wind definitely playing its part in the day's proceedings.

With many of the regulars shying away from the heat and the wind, however, to those that showed that they will not be out done for their weekly dose of golf.

As is the norm on a Wednesday count outs were needed to secure some of the winners.

Nearest to the Pin on Number 12 was won by

Corne Schalkwyk whilst the overall winner, a repeat of last week was Fanie Terblanche – however this time around he only managed 38 points with the Front 9 went to Rina Knight as she won a 3 way count out on 19 points with Marco Swarts shot an excellent 20 points to secure the Back 9.

All in all a great day of golf was had by everyone and the Rossmund GC thanked everyone on behalf of the sponsor Prestige Accounting for the support today.

The 2022 STANDARD B A N K S WA K O P OPEN is scheduled to be played tomorrow Saturday 30April and Sunday 1 May at the Rossmund Golf Club. – The new formats for the Swakop Open will be both a Medal (54 holes) and a Medal/Stableford (36 holes) Section of the tournament which are open to all golfers in the Men, Ladies and Juniors and divisions.

Volleyball league action at SFC

EVA Indoor Volleyball League starts on high note Rudi Bowe

The Erongo Volleyball Associations (EVA) League commenced on Saturday, 23 April for this year's season at the SFC indoor Volleyball Courts in Swakopmund.

The Namibian Navy's A team and the Nampol ladies Volleyball Club set the pace for exciting action this season, as both teams won their opening games in straight sets.

The Namibian Navy's men's A teamSeaside Volleyball Club, Sharks Sport Club and the men's B team of the Namibian Navy 3-0 respectively, while Coastal Warriorsalso started the season with

an impressive 3-0 win over Seaside only to lose 31 to Sharks Sport Club. The Nampol men's team beat Namibian Navy B 3-0 in the last men's game of the opening day.

The Nampol ladies beat Sharks Sport Clublady's team and the ladies of the Namibian Navy 3-0 respectively while Namibian Navy ladies beat Sharks Sport Club 3-0.

The next league game will be played tomorrow Saturday 30 April at the Jan Wilken Indoor Sport Complex.

Sparta United I (defending first division champions) beat Outjo based Northern Force 17-16 in the Namibian Rugby Union First Division League, at the Vinita Rugby Field in Swakopmund Saturday, 23 April.

The League newcomers Northern Force, who played their very first competitive league match, stunned the hosts Sparta I with a 13-12 halftime lead.

Sparta tries were scored by Stuart McAlpine and Karim Visagie who scored two tries with Stuart McAlpine visiting the visitors try line. Manuel Daniels was successful with one conversion and a penalty.

Raiden Germishuys scored the only try for the visitors whilst Jerome Beukes was successful with the conversion and three penalties.

Martin and Olivier second in Omaruru Rudi Bowe Wilro Dippenaar and his navigator, Carolyn Swan in their Shell V Power 4x4 Ford Fiesta beat Allan Martin and navigator Maretha Olivier in their J&P Hydraulics 4×4 Skoda R5 with just a few seconds in the S4 class last Saturday, 23 April at the Shell V Power Rally at Omaruru.

The Shell V-Power Rally at Omaruru was the second leg of the 2022 Namibia National Rally Championships, hosted by the Redline Motor Club and sponsored by Shell V-Power.

The overall winner of S1 to S4 classes was Dippenaar and Swan, first in a time of 1 hour 1 minute and 8 seconds, Martin and Maretha second

in a time of 1 hour 2 minutes and 3 seconds and Steven Marnevick and Jodine van Zyl third in a time of 1 hour 15 minutes and 31 seconds.

The overall winners of CR1 to CR4 classes were Jandre Dippenaar and Giele Visser (1:04:30), Dirk Redman and Flippie Liebenberg second (1:11:33) with Willie and SJ Schoemann third (1:19:49).
