inside Sale of unoccupied MULSP houses commenced Namibia could Rudi Bowe
The Municipality of Walvis Bay has commenced the process of selling the remaining unoccupied 70 houses as per the directive from the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development (MURD). The houses, constructed through the Massive Urban Land Servicing Programme several years ago will be allocated and sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, to beneficiaries selected from a combined waiting lists of the Walvis Bay Municipality and National Housing Enterprise from 2016. Walvis Bay mayor, Trevino Forbes last Friday at a media briefing explained that council first had to amend the land sale policy to specifically give opportunities to first time property owners and residents of Walvis Bay.Forbes said, “the houses reserved for council employees may only be allocated if they are on the aforementioned waiting lists, qualifying and may be allocated an erf and/or house constructed thereon under the MULSP initiative when it is their legitimate turn in the order of the waiting list.”

A pair of sisters who were separated have now reunited, 70 years since they last saw each other. Although the sisters kept in touch, yesterday was the first time they saw each other in all these years. With an age gap of 11 years, the two sisters, Bettie Ettwein (85), and Sarie van Wyk (74) were separated after their parents moved from Walvis Bay, with Sarie, who was four years old at the time, back to South Africa, Cape Town in 1954. Bettie decided to stay behind at the tender age of 16. Sarie got on a plane from Cape Town to Walvis Bay yesterday to surprise her long lost older sister for her birthday next week, 13 June. Back in Walvis Bay, an unsuspecting Bettie was put under the impression by her eldest son, Tony Ettwein (67), that she was going on an outing with him, when in fact she was taken to the airport for the reunion. Sarie's daughter, Thea van Wyk from Cape town and Bettie's son, Tony, throughout the day, kept Namib Times informed about the day's affairs. In this very heart-warming story, the plane with Sarie on board, touched down at the Walvis Bay airport at 17:00 on Thursday afternoon, and the two sisters were finally reunited.
