The lifeless body of a newborn baby boy was discovered on Wednesday at about 13:00 in a public bin located on the corner of Vrede Rede and Aldridge Street close to the Woermann Brock shopping complex. The person who abandoned the infant there is yet to be arrested. The shocking discovery was made by a young boy, who was in the area curiously looking into the bin. "It was my cousin's child who found the body and called me", said Josefina Swartbooi to namib times. Swartbooi was in the vicinity walking towards the shops when the baby's body was discovered. After she was told of the grim content of the bin, she went to look for herself. "I was completely in shock seeing that lifeless body lying there. I started crying and ran back and it was my employer who immediately called the police", she explained still shocked and horrified at the incident. The baby was suspected to have been born earlier on Wednesday. It is suspected the newborn was suffocated before being wrapped in a plastic with the placenta still attached to it before it was dumped next to the busy public Continues on Page 2

Van Zyl now faces a possible charge of culpable homicide. (Full report on page 2).

Thanks to the quick response by members of the Namibian Police, police reservists and the Swakopmund Neighbourhood Watch two persons who stole from tourists during the festive season in Swakopmund were not only caught but also convicted and sentenced to jail in a matter of a few days. The first incident was reported on Christmas Day. A 32-year German tourist was sitting on a bench next to the Vineta walkway on the ocean front when a person suddenly reached over her shoulder from behind and grabbed her Samsung Tablet S5 valued at N$6 000. When she turned around the person who grabbed the device allegedly threatened her with a big knife and left. The incident was immediately reported to the Neighborhood Watch and thanks to their quick response one suspect, who was still in the possession of the knife as well as the stolen tablet, was apprehended. A second suspect believed to be an accomplice was also arrested. The two suspects appeared in the Swakopmund magistrates court three days later. The complainant testified and the main suspect, Hawie Kahuika (20), was convicted and sentenced to 24 months imprisonment without the option of a
