Toyota's the only manufacturer to get double-digit sales Buyers snapped up 3 153 new Hiluxes in July, making it SA's favourite vehicle and eclipsing its nearest bakkie competitor by more than 840 sales. This helped lift Toyota's new vehicle sales to 10 224, or 3 410 deliveries clear of the second-placed motor manufacturer. This equates to an overall market share of 22,7 per cent. As Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Toyota SA Motors points out, “what's even more enlightening is that 23 per cent of all dealer sales for the month can be attributed to a Toyota, Lexus or Hino franchise, which effectively means that every fourth vehicle sold via the total dealer channel, is one of ours.” "The fact that Toyota was the only manufacturer able to breach the 10 000 sales threshold for the
month, is testament to the confidence buyers have in our brands. In these highly uncertain times, people buy what they know and trust and Toyota offers that and much more. "That said, the 17 per cent decline in the new car market remains a concern for the motor industry as a whole,” concludes Hamman. In addition to Hilux, Toyota also led several other individual market segments in July with Fortuner
which once again posted an unassailable sales total of 1418 units, Quantum (1435) and RAV4 with 441, while Corolla and Corolla Quest are way out in front in the C segment with sales of 484 and 670 units respectively. Additional notable Toyota volumes came from RAV4 (441), Avanza (357) and the evergreen LandCruiser
Pick-up, which garnered 343 sales. On the Hino front, the 300 was again the shining star for the commercial brand in July, achieving 25% market share in the MCV segment. Hino 500 was likewise able to increase its share to 18 per cent in the HCV segment, an improvement of more than 1 percent over June 2016.
