Hands off our tourists Police confirms Elna-Marie inside Isaac Chikosi Abbott committed suicide Golden A man who broke into the vehicle of tourists in Swakopmund on Floris Steenkamp Saturday has been dealt swift justice and is now serving a year Jubilee The Namibian Police confirmed earlier this week that its criminal prison sentence. His co-accused maintains his innocence and will be going on trial on 20 May this year. The arrest and sentencing is a clear message to any criminal that Namibians are tired of crime and that includes crime targeting our country's tourists whom are one of our biggest sources of income, job creation and downstream investment. According to Deputy Commissioner Erastus Ikuyu, Nampol Erongo's Criminal Investigations Coordinator, two suspects broke into the vehicle and stole a black leather bag, pullover, jacket, t-shirts and 4 pairs of socks. The total value of the stolen items is N$3 410. Two persons were arrested: Timoteus Iipinge (44) and Johannes Hamunyela (38). At their first appearance in the Swakopmund magistrate's court, Iipinge was found guilty and sent straight to jail. Hamunyela wants to prove his innocence. He has been released on N$1 000 bail and returns to court for trial purposes on 20 May.

investigation into the death of former Walvis Bay resident ElnaMarie Abbott concluded suicide. Abbott’s body was discovered next to a rail track in the capital Windhoek last Friday, with the body’s head severed. From an investigation point of view it was clear that Abbott’s body was laying in such a position in relation to the rail track that a passing train severed her head. An inquest docket was opened and evidence presented by investigators will now be submitted to the Office of the Prosecutor-General for a ruling over the cause of death. It was in the meantime said Abbott’s decision to end her life is based on a string of events which include her suffering from severe depression, at least one earlier suicide attempt and personal problems lately which placed her under immense personal stress.

Planning is crucial to prevent vehicle accidents
At the Ordinary Monthly Council meeting on Tuesday night, Councillor Penelope Martin-Louw pointed out despite safety campaigns and law enforcement drives, it seems thus if Namibia's attempts at road safety is futile. The Deputy Mayor called upon people planning to go away over the Easter long weekend to prepare. Prepare your journey in order to plan travelling time, in order to avoid speeding. Don't overload and check your vehicle for roadworthiness in time. Clr Martin-Louw's full address reads: “As the Easter weekend is approaching, we start experiencing the anxiety that usually comes with it. In this case I am not referring to the spiritual sustenance that people of the Christian faith associate with Easter. No, I am talking about our roads which are expected to be extremely busy again as many people will be travelling to be with loved ones in other parts of the country, or to break away. ROAD SAFETY: Every now and again we take stock of the danger posed by our roads as so many road users gamble with their own and other people's lives. The more we talk about it, launching campaign after campaign, the more futile our attempts seem to be. The number of people losing their lives on our roads is frightening and totally deplorable. Sharlien Tjambari A Scania cooler truck loaded with pork and sheep carcasses on way from Mariental to Walvis Bay went up in flames on Wednesday, after the driver lost control of the truck when the fully loaded trailer's right tyre burst. The driver managed to get the truck back on the road. According to Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, Erongo crime investigation coordinator the 47-year-old driver stopped the truck along the road and got out to investigate. He found the burst tyre and part of the trailer already on fire. He then managed to hook the trailer from the truck to save it from the already blazing fire. The red and white cooler truck belonging to Dikwels Transport Company in Mariental was carrying 95 pig carcasses and 135 sheep carcasses. The incident happened on the B2 road between Arandis and Swakopmund approximately 30km towards Swakopmund. The cooler truck trailer and its content with estimated value of: N$500 000 burned down completely to ashes”, added Iikuyu. The cause of the fire is yet to be established and the driver was unharmed.
