CEO’s Message
Welcome to the MTA Services Handbook –your comprehensive guide to all the ways MTA supports, strengthens and leads the automotive industry in the Northern Territory.
Our industry is rapidly evolving, and as the peak body dedicated to the automotive sector, the MTA is here to ensure you stay ahead, equipped and ready for the future.
While the MTA does not provide apprentice training or employment services in the Northern Territory, we proudly offer industry-leading upskilling programs for qualified technicians.
Members and businesses in the NT can access these specialised courses by making the trip to our state-of-the-art training facilities in South Australia, ensuring they remain competitive in a changing industry.
This handbook serves as a roadmap to all MTA’s business-focused services and products, including workplace relations and a wide array of resources tailored to meet your business needs and to ultimately support, grow, protect and strengthen our industry.
Together, let’s drive the industry forward.
Darrell Jacobs Chief Executive Officer, MTA SA/NT

Apprentice Services
The MTA supports the Northern Territory automotive industry by providing students with work experience opportunities and dedicated mentorship. This guidance is designed to support students throughout their career journey and encourage long-term retention in the industry.
Host a work experience student
Help nurture the next generation of automotive professionals and keep young talent in the trade by hosting an MTA work experience student.
Work experience is a key step in sparking students’ interest in automotive trades. Students aiming to complete a Certificate II in Automotive, while still at school, must undertake work experience and provide proof to enrol in the course. These students play a crucial role in building the next generation of automotive professionals.
