1.0 EXISTING CONDITIONS 1.9 Cultural Zone There are two museums in Carson Park, the Paul Bunyan Logging Camp and Chippewa Valley Museum. The facilities are adjacent to each other and make up a small village setting. A split rail fence separates the museum grounds providing a demarcation of each facility. The Paul Bunyan Logging Camp first opened in 1934. The site portrays a historic logging camp with seven authentic buildings found in the Eau Claire area. The buildings are set within a mix of trees and maintain lawn. The visitor center and offices are served by a small parking lot. The camp buildings connect with an accessible sidewalk from the visitor center. There is a picnic table and bench in the Camp area. The Chippewa Valley Museum has a larger visitor building with three outbuildings. The outbuildings are a period ice cream parlor, one-room Sunnyview School (est. 1882) and the Anderson Log House (est. 1866). The outbuildings are near to each other and the main museum building. There is an asphalt path connecting to the school, and dirt path to the Anderson House. Benches are in a few places along the path. The main museum building has an accessible ramp, but the outbuildings are limited by wooden step access. Bicycle loops are near steps to the main museum building. There are a few parking stalls close to the museum along East Half Moon Drive.
