MANILA – One-hundred seventy Isabelonians became beneficiaries of the Rotary Club of Manila “Rotary Vision Care” providing eyeglasses and eye screenings for the visually impaired teachers and students, spearheaded by the president of the club, Mr Herminio S Esguerra at the Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School (IRES) on January 10, 2023
Along with the president was Mr Aries Balanay as the chairperson of the program and Sis. Maria Vida Cordero, the RC – Manila chose 15 big schools, including IRES to carry on with their grant to aid the learners and teachers see better and carry on with their daily tasks with ease

The Manila mayor gave an order for the immediate evacuation of the teachers and their belongings as the building is set to be demolished.
Mrs. Eleodora B. Vergara, the school principal, originally requested for the canopy of the Morga building to be fixed as it is deemed hazardous for the occupants of the said structure but after the said visitation of the city officials, they had concluded that a demolition had to be done.
According to the National Building Code (PD 1096), establishments have a lifespan and if it had served its purpose and was found to be dangerous then Section 215 stated
that “the Building Official shall order its repair, vacation or demolition depending upon the degree of danger to life, health, or safety.”
The new building is set to rise in 2024 should the proposal be approved by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Initially, the structure was supposedly 10 floors should the city government be followed however, the matter was turned over to the national office which allows the budget to execute a 6-storey building.
PNP Manila Police District headed by PLTCOL Harry R. Lorenzo III, Station Commander, Mr. Edwin Fan, Chairman- Police Station 2 Advisory Council, and Mr. Imad Ammar, ChairmanDistrict Advisory Group, in partnership with Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School (IRES) launched “Adopt-a-Pupil Project” where poor but deserving learners will receive a monthly allowance of Php 500.
Two eligible pupils in every section in all grade levels were chosen to be beneficiaries in the scholarship program.Their purpose for initiating this scholarship program is to reach out to help the deserving pupils that is financially struggling but is willing to learn, goes to school everyday, and does all of their activities in school.4
There are two batches of scholars where 14 pupils are from batch one and 21 pupils are from the second batch, a total of 35 recipients.
This project will be carried out for the entire school year.
Manila City Health Department partnered with various health centers and schools to help disseminate information and shots of COVID-19 vaccine to become vaccination sites, especially among students now that schools are gearing towards face-to-face classes.
Among the schools that was chosen was Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School (IRES) where a total of 328 learners received vaccine from grades 4-6.
According to Mrs. Emily Mañalac, IRES school nurse, the turnout of the vaccinated students was due to the scare of Dengvaxia and the misinformation spread about the vaccine.
“Bagama’t may kanya-kanyang paniniwala tungkol sa bakuna, generally ay safe naman ito para
“I have experienced the same hardship of not being able to see clearly before when I was still a student. Our aim was to help learners that are in the same situation, especially those that has the lack of capacity to buy glasses.” said Mr. Esguerra.
Suspected students that are suffering from poor eyesight were assessed by the school clinic and was forwarded to the designated areas for further checking.

“Through the use of eyeglasses, I was able to see better, and I was able to perform well in school. May this assist you and help you in becoming the best that you can be in class.” Mr. Esguerra stated.
Grantees of the “Rotary Vision Care” received their eyeglasses on January 17, 2023 and the organization will do a follow-up on them on May 29, 2023.
sa lahat. It is an additional protection however, vaccination is not mandatory.” Mrs. Mañalac remarked.
Department of Education (DepEd) stressed that vaccination is voluntary and not a requirement as in-person classes ensues.
Basic handwashing, wearing of facemasks, and physical distancing however, should be strictly implemented in schools to avoid the spread of the deadly virus.
“Intensify and encourage”, quipped Mrs. Mañalac when asked how we can handle the situation better.
Department of Health (DOH) still campaigns for the wide distribution of the vaccines especially in children and those that are in priority group.
Teachers and students from Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School (IRES) shared the spotlight among other Manileños at the “Manila Intellectual Property, Innovation And Business Incubation Expo” (MIPIBIEX) 2023 as they share their innovations, inventions, and original compositions at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) on April 21, 2023.
This event was initiated by Mr. Sonny Villanueva, principal of T. Paez Elementary School, which was a celebration the National Innovation Act as stipulated in RA 11293 or the “Philippine Innovation Act” where the creatives of different categories come together to showcase their works.
Learners from V – Diamond,
Jewel Matilda de Guzman, Nigel Abulencia, Jemima Cassey Alvaredo, Chrisielly Briana Buluran, and Angela Tan, under the supervision of Jordan Macapagal, were among the winners; their inclusive and innovative on a footbridge connecting Manila’s green spaces won silver.
Meanwhile, Isabelonian teachers Kenneth Jhon Loria, Niño Antonio dela Cruz, and Arnel Macababbad, bagged medals for their artistic works whereas Deobell Macababbad, Jackilyn Dabu, and Mary June Gerona nabbed awards for literary works, all falling under copyright categories.
Manila city was the pioneer for such an event, however the goal of it is towards national implementation.
Coronavirus had us isolate from the world for over two years
We have plastered facemask as if it was a body part; we washed our hands and wiped it clean. After all the hullabaloos, we are slowly transitioning back to normal and classes in school are ongoing. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of pandemic but, are we ready to face the world without the mask on?
Going back to school doesn’t sit well with some of the parents in the beginning however, everyone simply followed suit in going back to school, physically. The students and teachers alike were excited since they will be handling them just like the old times.
Post-pandemic schooling can be ludicrous at times since everyone is adjusting. Working with the learners seems to be an endless ride on a rollercoaster because of the highs and lows of performances these students are giving. Sometimes they excel, other times they needed extra attention and instruction
If I have learned anything from all these, it is to extend kindness. The children are still learning the ropes since they have accustomed to the ways of learning online, especially children who have not had an experience yet in going to a real school.
But out of all these situations, it is safe to say that education after the pandemic hits hard for all of us… and yet there is a glimmer of hope because now we know what to fix and solve it, hands-on.
To give up is not an option because no matter how we look at things, there are pros and cons of the pandemic. At the end of the day, we just have to work on what we have. Everyone is adjusting as the world is finally healing

Hello! I am happy that this school year, I was able to see my friends face-to-face again! However, I am feel annoyed sometimes that there is so much noise going on because of the construction in and outside of the school. Is there a way to lessen these noise?
Dear Jemima,
Sincerely, Jemima Cassey Alvaredo V
- DiamondThank you for your letter! First of all, it's nice to hear that you're enjoying your classes. To answer your question, I don't think there is hardly anything we could do about the ongoing construction because it needs to be done. However, I am happy to tell you that our school is cooperating with the concerned workers and they obliged to work only at the times where the students would not be put to danger. Take care always!
Sincerely,
Editor-in-ChiefAccording to wordpress com, school discipline nowadays has become worse, this is due to numerous factors which can be found in the environment, mass media, family among others
Besides the things mentioned, there are a lot more things that makes it worse, an example of this is like the internet, students watch tiktoks and they sometimes learn some words that are very offensive to a fellow student
Someone in our government has to solve this problem, so if this problem gets worse than it was, how will it affect our students discipline?
If I were to guess, the internet will be the one to blame because nowadays students are watching the internet all day every day, and the more they do so, they get more addicted, and problems may be caused not only with their family, but even with their learning
If there could be someone who could potentially stop this problem, its probably our parents, because with how parents are handling their kids nowadays, I’m sure they could handle this sort of problem like a piece of cake
Someone must do something to this problem mainly because issues such as a poor home life, interactions with peers, and others may cause problems inside the classroom, another is students may experience bullying, classroom disturbance, and maybe even trauma, and lastly, it could cause problem with their parents if the student has been in the guidance too much.
If we want this problem to come to a halt, our students need to think about the things they will do before they actually do it, because if this continues, we might be losing an important piece.
Isabelo Delos Reyes Elementary School (IRES) is currently ongoing renovation Part of the renovation and Facilities improvement is the Morga building which was currently being demolished Due to this, students and teachers whose rooms are in the Morga building are the one affected since they don't have permanent classrooms yet So, the plan of the school principal and council is to allow them to use the quadrangle where they installed temporary rooms for the affected students and teachers so they can still have their classes until construction of Morga building is not yet finished Meanwhile, Chacon
Road where one of the gates to the school lies, is also under repair and construction which seems to be hazardous because pupils and educators use the gate.
This current situation inside and outside the school affects the teachers as well as the students. It affects them like they already lack time during their lessons because they have no permanent rooms resulting in a shortened period of time per subject.
The ongoing road construction outside the school affects teachers, students, as well as the parents and guardians who send and fetch them at school.
Noise pollution caused by the machine trucks used to repair the road is so disturbing and distracting to the class while the teacher is having their lesson inside the school. Heavy road dust can soot the eyes of everyone anytime the wind blew. It can also trigger the condition of those who have asthma. Inconvenient roads and rough cement with stones can cause accidents to all especially to the students while passing by and other accidents it may cause.
School renovation and improvement are all for the benefit of the students and teachers. After the renovations, the facilities will show improvement where the students can feel that they are safe while inside the school premises because of the good ambiance and safe spaces that came along with the renewal. A good and safe environment helps boost academic performance, increase students' ability to focus and concentrate on their studies.
Hannah Beah DiataYes, I'm in favor of bringing back the start of school year to June, because, so many factors affects education. Climate, sickness, because of the very hot weather, and others. Bringing back to June in a right process is much better.
- Clarice Joyce Nuque, VI - MagnificenceYes, I am in favor of bringing back to start of the school year to June because classes will end before the summer starts and we all know that during summer in our country, that heat will be the punishment to us. It is very difficult to focus and

Students often use helpful social media websites whenever they do their assignments or activities, but are they actually helpful?
In online classes and even face to face classes students use helpful websites like Google, Brainly, YouTube, and many more. It helps to improve student's performance by allowing them to gather data online in order for them to do their assignments.
Through the use of internet, students can get information easily with quick access to research, and they can communicate with their teachers, friends, and classmates.
However, there are also negative effects of social media like it is distracting to them. An example would be instead of doing assignments, they would check their feed.
It can also be disrupting their sleep. Perhaps whenever it’s their bed time, they wouldn’t sleep yet but would often wait for their parents to fall asleep then they will slyly open their social media.
In some other cases, social media may often lead to increased risk for depression, anxiety, loneliness, self-harm, and even suicidal thoughts because of being exposed to bullying.
I think students should lessen their use of social media and should only use them whenever they have activities and assignments cause it can distract them from learning, might experience bullying, therefore affecting their mental and physical health.
Is social media helpful to a student like you?
The rise of using chat AI by a lot of students is alarming, should the teacher catch them using it, they might receive a low grade, or worse a failing grade.
Chat AI was originally designed to aid those in need of it however, we should not take advantage of it. We will not learn anything if we do not study and merely rely on AI to do the work for us.
Personally, I believe that students who use Chat AI are lazy. Instead of banking on this “modern-day magic”, let us do our best to study and learn the information we need then rephrase it. It is much better that way because it doesn’t seem like we’re stealing it.
Former president now Senior Deputy Speaker and Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo, aimed at making grades 11 and 12 mandatory only among those who wishes to pursue higher learning.
This is a big help especially for those who are not financially stable because not only it will lessen the work, but it will also lessen the bills.
Furthermore, not all students want to pursue higher education so it good that if they would have the option to tap out from senior high school.
Gloria Arroyo also wants to return the basic education which is nice especially because many students are struggling when it comes to studying. In some cases, studying too much can cause stress and depression.
Arroyo also described two years in senior high school as an “additional burden” to the students.
After two years of modular and online classes, Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School (IRES) is back in action.
As the students are back in-person, so are the works and whatnot inside the campus. Currently, the school is being renovated due to the dangers the school's old buildings pose. However, this seems to have caused a problem - one of which is the lack of classrooms.
Because of it, the school came up with a solution that the children in the afternoon and morning would divide the room amongst them, hoping that this will ease the temporary burden.
The renovation of the school causes fumes, and an unpleasant smell for students, teachers and parents. The exit and entry of students were hindered as well.
Will the school arrangement affect the students?
It will; but this will greatly benefit us students due to the fact that we will be indulging in new and improved classrooms.
Nevertheless, children may get sick because of the fumes it emits, and because of the loud noise made by the repair, teachers cannot teach properly.
In my opinion, construction in school should be held whenever there are no students inside. I believe it is better if they continue doing it during the upcoming children's vacation.
If the practice is done during the vacation, the children will be able to avoid disturbances or any form of illness.
The construction may have brought annoyance to the learners and teachers alike, but the product of this will be well worth it.
Being a teacher is hard. You need longer patience but once you see your students happy you feel better because all your hard work is worth it. Mrs. Ramelita Domecillo-Rafa (Ma'am /Mrs. Rafa) is a MAPEH teacher hailing from Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School who participated in a contest for outstanding teacher Mrs Rafa said "When I was a child, I looked forward to becoming an office girl, cashier, and sometimes becoming a teacher because that's what we often played"
Having many dreams as a child, she didn't expect to end up as a teacher someday Mrs Rafa had a very hard time before she became a lovely teacher. "I grew up without knowing who my father was. It was a bit difficult for my mom to be alone in everything, especially when I was going to college" she said
Mrs. Rafa chose to be a teacher because her mother is a teacher too. Sometimes when there is a program in school her mom took her and she thought it’s fun.
Every person has a person who pushed them in making or achieving their dream or anything same as Ma'am Rafa. "The people who pushed me before I became a teacher were, of course, my mother who is now gone, my grandfather and grandmother, and when I got married, of course my husband" Mrs. Rafa recalled.
Doing your job needed to be fun and happy because once you feel lonely about your job it won't be worth it
Is being teacher is fun? Ma'am Rafa remarked, "Yes! However it's inevitable to feel tired, yet when you see your children learning and happy every time they enter your classroom, that's what gives me strength… that I need to improve in practicing my profession because these children depend on me for learning.”
When asked what her thoughts were upon entering the contest, she uttered "I had no plans, but suddenly my master teacher told me that there will be a search for outstanding teacher and encouraged me to join. I was trying to gather all the papers I need and braced myself for the ordeal of going through the search. I'm happy especially because of my students who supports me and so do their parents and of course, the principal for her unfailing love and support so I'm very grateful to everyone. "
As her student who personally sees her on a daily, having her as a teacher is enjoyable because she's very fun, happy, and really pretty! When the search begun Ma'am Rafa used our section in her contest which was nerve wrecking for me because it's my first time to be in that situation But, all of our hard work was worth it because Ma'am Rafa ranked fourth, bringing pride and joy to our alma mater I'm so grateful to have met such a wonderful person as Ma'am Rafa. We love her so much and I hope she’ll have more special things in life to come and achieve
In time of pandemic one of the modern heroes is our frontliners. They are called heroes for their bravery to face danger and give their own life to protect others.
We also call doctors and nurses our frontliners because they save lives of million people and without them, we will not survive Covid-19.
Not only doctors and nurses deserve to be called modern day heroes, there’s also OFW's who works abroad, sacrificing for their families.
Teachers also plays a part of the modern heroes because of them we continue our study through
online learning. They never tire of teaching and educating us.
Military and police were never tired as well of protecting our country. They’re doing law enforcement and Investigates crimes to preserve order and silence in our country.
There are the modern-day heroes who played a great role in our country, not only because they did their job but because they helped others.
I'm so thankful to our modern-day heroes –they served as a good inspiration to all of us to keep on fighting and thriving.

Why is social media so important today? Is it because it serves as a guide to people especially students? Is it because it is used to communicate with other people?
Through social media, and generally the internet, you can find the information you are looking for just by searching.
Social media has many positive effects on us, especially students. During the height of pandemic, people couldn't go out because of quarantine.
In those times, students can only study through online learning for the safety of students and also teachers.
Without social media, can people survive? Of course! There were no cellular phones back then but the people still communicated, socialized, and were informed.
Social media is important but we need to take a break from it time and again, to allow us to evaluate our lives.
To reduce the bad or fake news we can spend time hanging out with our family and friends. It also helps to reduce our levels of depression and anxiety.
I know that social media is so important to us, but we need to take a break to having fun things in our lives.
In the realm of admiration, a special place exists for heroes who inspire us to be better versions of ourselves These heroes possess qualities and achievements that transcend their own lives, igniting a spark within us. One such hero in my life is our grandfathers, Mang Rex and Mang Babot, whose unwavering strength, kindness, and perseverance inspire us. Through their example, we have learned that heroism lies in grand gestures and minor acts of kindness and compassion.
Our grandfathers, Mang Rex and Mang Babot, are true heroes. Despite facing numerous hardships throughout their lives, they always wore a smile and radiated positivity. Their unwavering kindness and compassion touched the lives of all those around them, helping neighbors; their actions reflected a genuine desire to make a difference. But what truly sets them apart is their ability to find strength and hope even in the darkest times.
Reflecting on our grandfather's qualities, we have realized the defining characteristics of a hero First and foremost is resilience an unwavering determination to overcome obstacles and persevere in adversity. Heroes possess selflessness that puts the needs of others before their own, showing compassion and empathy in their actions. They inspire and empower, offering guidance and support to those most needing it. Ultimately, heroes are not defined by their accomplishments but by the positive impact they have on the lives of others.
Inspired by our grandfathers' example, we have set our own goals to become a hero in our own right Our first step is to cultivate empathy and
compassion, to see the world through the eyes of others, and understand their struggles We aspire to actively seek opportunities to help those in need, whether volunteering at local organizations or simply offering a helping hand to someone in distress.
Our quest must include both education and self-improvement. By broadening our knowledge, we may better comprehend the intricate problems that people and communities confront. We are dedicated to researching social topics, having deep discussions, and keeping up with current events worldwide
Additionally, we want to have a beneficial influence by encouraging compassion and inclusion inside our community. We believe in the strength of group action, whether it is via planning events that advance diversity and equality or speaking up for environmental sustainability
Being a hero is a lifelong endeavor rather than a destination We are devoted to bringing these values into our lives since they were modeled for us by our grandfather's everlasting fortitude, generosity, and tenacity. We want to significantly impact people's lives by developing empathy, taking the initiative, and supporting good change in our neighborhood
We're reminded that every one of us has the potential to be heroes as we set out on this introspective journey of inspiration and personal development It consists of our decisions, the compassion we exhibit, and our effects on the world. Let's endeavor to leave a legacy of kindness, understanding, and constructive change in our wake by embracing our capacity for heroism.
This summer, many people had been experiencing some medical issues, for example, heatstroke, prickly heat and many more.
These issues are caused by being too much exposed to the sun. If people still do this, we can lose many people because a lot of them died by fainting. Fainting is also one of the issues that can cause death to people.
Cases of heatstroke increased rapidly in the month of summer due to being exposed to the sun. Dehydration is also caused by too much exposure to the sun. Dehydration can be cured if we drink lots of water every day.
A dark force often lurks in the vast corridors of school life, silently preying on the vulnerable. Bullying, an age-old societal ailment, inflicts emotional wounds that run deep. It casts a shadow over the lives of its victims, robbing them of confidence, joy, and their very sense of self. However, amidst the darkness, there are flickers of hope, brave souls who refuse to let the chains of bullying hold them back.
Like a twisted game, bullying thrives on power imbalances and the suffering it creates. It takes the form of cruel words, physical intimidation, or even cyber-attacks. Yet, in this narrative, we choose to celebrate the indomitable spirit that rises above it all. Meet Sarah, a gentle soul whose passion for painting became a refuge from the taunts and jeers of her classmates. With brush in hand, she painted a world where kindness reigned, and empathy triumphed. In the quiet moments when she blended colors on her canvas, she discovered her worth, far beyond the shallow judgments of her peers. Then there's David, a bookworm whose love for stories transported him to realms beyond the playground. In the pages of novels, he found solace, inspiration, and role models who taught him to stand tall despite adversity. Armed with knowledge and imagination, he turned the tables on his tormentors, proving that intellect can be a powerful shield.
Justine I. RoqueroAnother medical issue is having prickly heat or skin rash, it is harmless but it can be very itchy, if you scratch it, it can lead to infection if the open area was not immediately treated.
These medical issues can be cured by staying at home if nothing important is to be done outside. Drink lots of water and eat at the right time. Sleeping at the right time is also important to maintain your physical health. However, how can we learn if we can't go outside? Can we learn face-to-face this summer? According to my classmate, if we are personally learning inside the classroom, learning was more effective unlike attending online class, some students are lazy.
But perhaps the most remarkable tale of triumph is that of Lily, a once-shattered spirit who found solace in music. Her voice soared, breaking free from the chains of insecurity, as she sang songs of resilience and hope. She created a symphony of strength with every note, reminding others that their voices mattered too. Though scarred by their experiences, these brave individuals chose not to succumb to the darkness. They discovered that within themselves lay the power to transcend the cruelty of their peers. Their stories remind us that even in the face of adversity, compassion, creativity, and resilience can be powerful tools for healing.
Let us be inspired by these tales of triumph, and in doing so, let us shine a light on the shadows of bullying. We can create a world where empathy, understanding, and acceptance prevail. Let us build a society that celebrates our differences and empowers everyone to embrace their uniqueness without fear.
Schools can implement comprehensive antibullying programs that address the issue, promote inclusivity, and teach conflict resolution skills. By educating students about the impact of their actions and encouraging them to stand up for one another, we can empower a generation that values compassion over cruelty.
Parents, too, have a vital role to play. Open lines of communication, where children feel safe to express their concerns, are crucial. Teaching empathy and respect at home
Meanwhile, when asked if she wants to come to school even though it;s summer time, Eunice Jean H. Paday from VIMagnificence said that she is not in favor of it because students can suffer from medical issues due to summer heat.
In addition, Jazz P. Empleo from VIMagnificence also finds it unfavorable because students can't resist the summer heat.
Summer is supposed to be a time to beat the heat and enjoy the cool waters in pools and beaches, in the future, maybe our politicians would see that school time does not go well with summertime.
helps instill values that shape their interactions outside the family unit. By modeling kindness and compassion in our lives, we provide our children with a powerful example.
Communities can create safe spaces for dialogue and support. Local organizations, schools, and community centers can collaborate to organize workshops, awareness campaigns, and support groups for victims of bullying. By fostering a sense of belonging and providing resources for those affected, we create a network of support that uplifts and empowers.
But let us not forget the bystanders—the silent witnesses to acts of bullying. It is incumbent upon them to break their silence and become allies. By standing up against bullying, speaking out when they witness injustice, and offering support to those in need, bystanders can transform the dynamics of bullying.
In our collective journey to combat bullying, remember that every action counts. A kind word, a helping hand, or a simple act of inclusion can make all the difference in someone's life. By fostering a culture that values empathy, understanding, and respect, we can create a world where bullying is but a distant memory.
Together, let us be the change, creating a brighter future where every individual can thrive, unburdened by the chains of bullying. It is within our power to nurture a world where the shadows of cruelty dissipate, allowing the light of compassion to shine through.
Our psychological, emotional social well-being, all fall under the category of mental health it. impacts our thoughts, feeling, and behaviors
It influences our capacity for managing stress, relating to others, therefore maintaining one's mental health is important
According to some of the students of Isabelo delos Reyes Elementary School (IRES), what is becoming a problem now is the pressure of their parents or guardian on their children
"For me, yong acads and pag pressure ng mga parents sa kanilang mga anak" a sixth grade student mentioned
The things that she thinks affect the mental health of
Spearheaded by SPG Adviser Mrs Faustina Panganiban, and the school principal Mrs. Eleodora B Vergara, the “Pet Bottles Recovery Project” came to reality at Isabelo Delos Reyes Elementary School on October 2022.
The goal of this project is to lessen the waste, learn how to segregate, and then recycle it so it could be used again This way, the children would be able to see that instead of throwing them, ending up in a pile of trash, it could still be valuable
To do this, a schedule would be given to the SPG members to collect the bottles in every building and stock them in the storage box
The SPG members start to collect the bottles after their class
If the SPG member is absent because they got sick or they’re simply busy about their studies, they will ask the SPG adviser to reschedule their duty, so that it will not affect their studies
This project is a reminder to the SPG members and the entire IRES community to dutifully collect plastic bottles to save and clean the environment, and for us as a student to learn how to be responsible
students are acads and the pressure of their parents. Speaking freely about mental health may contribute to removing stigma and misconceptions, as well as motivate those who are struggling get assistance and connections with others.
"Siguro makatutulong ako sa pakikinig sa mga rants nila" according to a sixth grade student.
People can help with mental illness by listening to their rants, that way the weight of their feeling is reduced because they share their problems.
It can also be very helpful to recover from mental illness to have a support system whether it be through self-help groups or close friends and family.
In the recently concluded Palarong Maynila, winners have been declared but I would reckon the teams who didn’t make it deserved an accolade as well. Putting your heart and soul through the “game of your life” was no easy feat
When the games were happening, everyone was hopeful and their spirits were way up People were chanting the names of their teams hoping to snatch that coveted title emblemed with a gold medal around their neck. However, games have victors and vanquished, and while we all vie for the former, most end up with the latter.
Training was arduous and time-consuming. The players were always drenched with saltwater – either with sweat or tears They beat their bodies again and again, making it their slave so that the dreams in their hearts will come to reality. And yet, some would still fell short.
Regardless of the outcome, everyone has their own moment, and that should be the thing that is on top of everyone’s head. The games shouldn’t define who they are for the spectators and judges have not seen all the grit and grind the players had been through As mentioned, the players may have lost the game but in the end, still gained. They have gained experience, new friends, and a character that was put to the test, and its limits.
Losing is just as inevitable as winning, all the while, just as valuable.
Winning doesn’t come to your side of the court always, at times, you will end up on the losing side. But what are the things we need to hear when our world is starting to fall apart?
“The result of your training will reflect in your game. Hindi dapat iniiyakan yan, dapat magsimula muli at ayusin ang pagkakamali. Balik ulit tayo sa basic.” Coach and 3rd grade MAPEH teacher has this to say to his players whenever he sees his children being disheartened.
If Coach Kenneth sees that this emotion persists among them, he will send his best player a.k.a captain ball to play on the field. “Sinasabi ko lang, ikaw ang captain ball prove to me na hindi ka nila basta matatalo. Dun nagiiba na laro ng bata ko kasi lumalakas na loob nila dahil ang captain ball na nila ang naglalaro.” he noted.
Meanwhile, a tactic that works for another coach, Mr. Niño dela Cruz, is for the players to be allowed to feel – be sad, cry, then move on. “It is okay to be sad, they can even cry in a corner if they wanted to. But it should not be for a long time. They should quickly bring their focus back in the game. Reflect on their strategies and try to know what they did wrong and learn how to overcome it. Losing is part of the game but it should not be a negative moment, it should be a learning experience instead.” Coach Niño recalled.
Losing can cause athletes to be dismayed and somehow, some choose to walk away from the sport that they love, nevertheless, Coach Alma Manalang thinks otherwise. She thinks that sports isn’t just all about the game, it’s more about the journey you’ve gone through and the people you’re with.
Maging laging positibo. Laban lang para sa tagumpay!” she jested.
Life is like a sport, there will be winning season and losing season. And even if you lose at times, always remember that you should keep the faith and believe that there are greater things than any we leave behind. Press on, move forward.
