THE SPACE
The Performance Studio at the Moonah Arts Centre (MAC) in lutruwita/Tasmania is a purpose-built facility designed to give local and visiting artists, presenters and educators an exceptional presentation experience in the vibrant and central location of Moonah.
Located directly between Hobart and Mona with an excellent café and restaurant strip, public transport and parking, MAC provides a platform for artists and local communities to own, express and share their stories.
Our flexible Performance Studio is perfect for intimate concerts, medium capacity gigs, theatre, film screenings, Q&As, presentations, conferences and functions.
At MAC, we are devoted to promoting LGBTQIA+ inclusion and celebrating the diversity of gender, age, race, faith and abilities. Our facilities were designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring all-gender bathrooms, ramps and ground-level access, accessible meeting and break-out rooms, hearing loops and plenty of accessible parking. MAC is a member of the Australian Breastfeeding Associations “Breastfeeding is Welcome Everywhere” network.
CAPACITY
With a 6m x 4m stage, the space can comfortably seat up to 130 people. An unseated informal event opening onto the foyer and internal courtyard could cater for up to 300 people.
The space can operate in natural daylight or full blackout.
FEES
For artists, we offer the space at a discounted rate of $210 inclusive of staging, seating, full audio system, lighting and projection.
For business, government and other organisations, the day rate is $420 with the same inclusions.
We’re also pleased to offer a five-hour supported presentation package which includes Venue Manager, Duty Technician and Venue Hire at $880 for touring crews and $660 for performances and events developed in Tasmania.
The Performance Studio space measures 9.6m x 17.6m (169m2).

• 24 x Timber staging units (2m x 1m each) with 200, 400, 600 and 800mm options for stage and tiered seating options.

The Performance Studio also has a well-maintained Yamaha U3 upright piano. There are four rated anchor points (five tonne each) suitable for static trapeze, silks or other static circus-style rigging. First points are suitable for end staging, third and fourth points suitable for a landscape configuration.
PARKING + BUMP IN
• MAC is situated opposite a large public access carpark with ample parking. The facility has rear vehicle access and parking with double load-in doors adjacent to the studio. Visitor parking permits are available from MAC staff.
• We are also located on public transport routes and are 250m from the intercity cycleway.
GEAR STORAGE + BACKSTAGE
• Gear can be stored behind the theatre curtains and in designated off-stage storage spaces for crew and performers.
• Performers and crew have access to green room and changeroom areas with fridge, sink, ironing facilities and separate shower and toilet.
• Equipment can be stored overnight for next day bump-out by arrangement.
• Performers and crew also have access to the MAC staff kitchen which has tea/coffee facilities, microwave, fridge, sandwich press (separate to the MAC bar and commercial kitchen).
BAR, KITCHEN + FOYER
• MAC has a special liquor permit and will facilitate and provide staff to run a bar by negotiation.
• We have a commercial-grade kitchen for use by external caterers or the serving of pre-prepared snacks and refreshments.
• The large and comfortable foyer adjacent to the Performance Studio is perfect for pre or post-event drinks, socialising and networking.
• The foyer also features access to courtyard and forecourt spaces where people can get fresh air and take a break from the action going on inside the venue.
• The foyer is also the access point for our contemporary unisex bathrooms which feature a separate dedicated ambulant toilet with baby changeroom facilities.
