EMERGENCE: F LO R A A N D FA U N A LUKE MORRIS F R I D AY 1 7 N O V E M B E R - S AT U R D AY 9 D E C E M B E R Emergence: Flora and Fauna is an exhibition of paintings based on local Tasmanian landscape and wildlife.

Since childhood, Luke Morris has always been passionate about drawing and creating artwork. He began painting during his Bachelor of Visual Communications in 2013 and found he loved the medium. Luke developed an interest in working with acrylic on canvas in various scales to depict endangered native Australian animals, with the hope to promote awareness around them.

FLIMSY FORTRESS HELEN GONINON F R I D AY 1 7 N O V E M B E R - S AT U R D AY 9 D E C E M B E R Caught between urgency and anxiety in one hand, and routines, comforts and distractions in the other, the artist contemplates the merits and pitfalls of building barriers – physical, digital, narrative and psychological – to the outside world.

Barriers that shore up the pleasures and apparent safety of home, barriers that are essential to leading a “normal” daily life, but which nonetheless obscure our precarious position and prevent meaningful change.

HOLIDAY COLOURING COMPETITION 2023 W I N A P R I Z E P A C K O F A R T M AT E R I A L S The annual Glenorchy City Council colouring competition is a fun opportunity for kids to get creative, connect with their City and maybe win some art supplies!

All entries will be displayed at Glenorchy City Council Chambers in February 2024 and on Council’s social media pages. A winning entry will be selected by Alderman Bec Thomas, Mayor of Glenorchy.

This competition is open to children who live or attend school in the City of Glenorchy.

Entries close Monday 29 January 2024.

Basketmakers of Tasmania present a weekly unstructured, but supported basket making workshop.

Our members have a wide range of skill sets and come from a variety of artistic and professional backgrounds. We love to share our knowledge and believe in keeping these age-old skills in the hands of future generations.

I N T E R N AT I O N A L A R T TEXTILE BIENNALE FIBRE ARTS AUSTRALIA F R I D AY 1 5 D E C E M B E R - S AT U R D AY 2 0 J A N U A R Y Fibre Arts Australia is highlighting the contemporary practice within Art Textiles as an art form.

Textiles have a long and memorable history, and like ceramics, textiles are integrated into the history of civilization itself. From necessity to fine art, textiles have pursued a path from providing humble warmth and protection, to plush decoration and the robes of ceremony and ritual.

For years, textiles languished as a collection of practical skills providing functional accoutrements. Once dismissed as “domestic craft”, textiles and the use of fibre in its various forms are now embraced as a challenging, yet accessible medium to explore cultural, environmental, political and social issues interpreted through unique and expressive gallery-welcomed artworks. The International Art Textile Biennale 2023 exhibition does this with panache.

International Arts Textile Biennale is produced and managed by Fibre Arts Australia.

I’D RATHER BE AT HOME WITH BENJI MIRANDA ROGERS F R I D AY 1 5 D E C E M B E R - S AT U R D AY 2 0 J A N U A R Y “We would all rather be at home with our pets, wouldn’t we? I’ve been fortunate to share my life with many animals, from bunnies and birds to donkeys and dogs. They have helped me create treasured memories, but this is not an experience unique to me or my family.

“For I’d Rather Be at Home with Benji, I created work inspired by moments we share with animals, including moments of mundanity, humour and even grief. This exhibition presents monoprints and mixed media drawings to fill the gallery walls in honour of our animal family members,” from artist Miranda Rogers.

DAWIT DERSOLIGN F R I D AY 1 5 D E C E M B E R - S AT U R D AY 2 0 J A N U A R Y Dawit Dersolign’s works are colourful, playful, decorative and often functional.

Dawit’s work isn’t only made to sit in a gallery, it also fills his house and the homes of many others.

Much of Dawit’s work incorporates traditional Ethiopian elements, but with his own unique interpretations of colour, pattern and material. He uses found materials, sourcing from his workplace, the tip and beyond.

This exhibition presents mixed media sculptural, 2D and interactive works made from reclaimed industrial waste such as pool noodles, Christmas baubles, thermal blankets, packing cardboard and even recycled industrial glue.
