Coaches Notes

It seems like an appropriate time to reflect on the season so far as today is our eighth game and we have had a chance to get to know our new players and what they can offer us

We continue to compete in the league and FA Cup and beat today’s opponents Bognor in a penalty shootout before eliminating Three Bridges with a 96th minute winner These are both sides who are in our league so will be keen to exact revenge starting with Bognor today so we’ll have to be prepared for everything they can throw at us.

Our latest game was a defeat to local rivals Saltdean DS under the lights last Thursday which was disappointing but provided some valuable lessons for us to learn from and we are still in the early stages of the season and the calibre of opponents we have faced so far suggest this won’t be an easy league to win and there will be many twists and turns along the way

We have recruited Abby Dawson, Laura Huish, Elise McInnes and Georgia Collier who have all made positive contributions on the pitch and are excellent people to have in the squad I must credit our squad with our successful recruitment because we all know that football is a small world and that is heightened in women ’ s football Our players and the way they enjoy football is the greatest recruitment advertisement and long may it continue

Interview with Georgia Collier

Hi Georgia, welcome to Villa! What have you enjoyed so far in your time here?

I’ve enjoyed getting to know the other girls, playing competitive football and winning!

Can you tell us about your playing journey so far?

I grew up playing football all day every day, when I went to university, it was Covid so I had a break for a couple of years. When I came back home, I felt more excited to get back playing again.

What professional teams and players inspire you? Including in the women’s game?

I enjoy watching the Arsenal women ’ s team, I think they work very well as a team and have a very good dynamic to their football One player in particular would be Leah Williamson, I think her determination after constant set backs is very inspiring

What do you think the team can achieve this season?

I think we can get through the next round of the FA cup and finish in the top half of the league

If you were an animal, what would you be?

I would probably be a tiger for its fierceness!!

What made you want to join Villa?

I wanted to join Villa as I had always heard good things about them from other players, also when I played against Villa last year, the players were all very positive This is something I think is very important when playing football, having supporting teammates who don’t point the finger when things don’t always go to plan

ACTION

There is a long and storied history of football in Bognor Regis going back to 1883 when they were founding members of the West Sussex Football League however the senior women’s team is currently enjoying their third season wearing the Bognor colours building on the work of their schoolgirl teams which began in 2016

Bognor’s finished their first season in the Sussex County Womens and Girls Football League as runners up and duly applied for promotion to the London & South East Regional Women’s Football League and this is their second season at this level of the women’s football pyramid.
