Today is a special day in the football calendar – Non-League Football Day It’s a day to celebrate the incredible clubs, volunteers, and supporters who make non-league football the heart of our communities It’s a chance to thank all those who give their time, passion, and dedication to ensure we can all enjoy the sport we love. Without them none of this would be possible.
It’s a pleasure to welcome Reigate Priory to Culver Road today After our recent match away at their ground, I had the privilege of sitting down with their management team and learning more about their fantastic club. Founded in 1870 and one of the pioneers in the FA Cup, Reigate Priory is a club with rich history and a remarkable achievement in having over 50 youth sides – a true sleeping giant in many ways
This puts into perspective the journey we’ve been on here at Villa Founded in 1991, our club has come a long way, and while we may not have the same history or number of youth teams as Reigate, we’ve built something special of our own We’ve created strong foundations with our women’s team, our vets section, and a pathway that brings through youth players into the senior squad. We may be smaller in stature, but we’re no less passionate and proud of our achievements
The past few weeks have been challenging for me personally. Sometimes, the pressures can weigh heavily, but the support I’ve received from so many great people at this club has meant more than words can express It’s in these moments that you realize just how lucky we are to be part of a club like this I am grateful for the hard work, dedication, and positivity shown by everyone, and I know the players are committed to doing everything they can to keep the club moving forward.
We know the challenges ahead of us, and the players know what they need to do They are a great group of lads, and I believe in them While results are crucial, what matters most is that they continue to give their all, learn, and improve with each match. We are building something here, and it’s important to remember that setbacks are just opportunities for growth As I’ve always said, don’t be afraid of failure – I certainly haven’t, and that’s why I’ve been able to achieve what I have in life
Let’s get out there today and put on another great performance for the supporters The game of football is what we’re here for, and with your support, we’ll keep fighting to make sure this club has a bright future ahead
