Today, we’re up against Selsey FC at Culver Road. Dan, their manager, is a football man through and through. He’s built a side with a clear identity and a plan, and you can always count on a tough, competitive match when we meet. I enjoy our games against them because you know what you’re going to get intensity, commitment, and structure. But I believe in our group, and we’re ready to rise to the challenge.
It’s been a bit of a strange week for football at county level. Sometimes, people forget that it’s supposed to be about enjoyment win, lose, or draw It’s easy to get caught up in the intensity of it all, but the bottom line is that we’re here to have fun and play the game we love It always makes me laugh when people take it so seriously At the end of the day, we’re playing football because it brings us joy, and that’s what matters most
We made a promise when we came together as a team: we’d enjoy every moment, no matter what happens. We’re sticking to that, and it’s been a blast so far. The energy and camaraderie in the dressing room is something special, and that won’t be disrupted by anything or anyone. Today’s a great day for football. The sun is out, and it’s the kind of day that makes you remember why we all love this game. Let’s not waste it.
So, let’s go out there and give everything we’ve got. Focus on playing our game, having fun, and seeing what we can achieve. Stay sharp, stay united, and enjoy every minute.

Selsey Football Club, formed in 1903, has played at various grounds before settling at the High Street Ground in the late 1940s, now known as Seal Bay Resort Stadium. The club was dominant in the 1950s, winning Division One six times and the Malcolm Simmonds Memorial Cup four times. They also won the Sussex County FA Intermediate Cup in 1958/59.
In 1961, Selsey moved to the Sussex County League, quickly finishing runners-up in Division Two. They gained promotion to Division One in 1964 but were relegated in 1969. They returned to Division One as champions in 1975/76 but were relegated again shortly after. The club gained promotion back to Division One in 1986/87 and had a cup final appearance in 1985 and 1987, winning the Division Two Cup in the latter. Selsey spent several years in Division One, eventually being relegated in 1991.
The club had a period of rebuilding and returned to Division One in 1995/96. Their longest stint in Division One came under manager Danny Hinshelwood, who led the team to win the SCFA RUR Cup in 2001/02 and the John O'Hara League Cup in 2002/03. However, they were relegated in 2004/05 and faced further struggles in the Southern Combination Football League, including relegation in 2015/16.
Despite setbacks, Selsey started improving under manager Daren Pearce in 2018, finishing 5th in 2018/19. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the following seasons, but the club bounced back, focusing on developing youth players. In the 2022/23 season, they reached the play-off semi-finals, and in 2023/24, they again reached the play-offs but were defeated. The reserve team won promotion to Division 2 and the Bareham Trophy, while the U16s won the U16 Challenge Cup.
In 2024/25, the U23 team folded, but the club continues to show promise, with a strong youth-to-senior player development system.
