Farm Life - the March lion by Roger Hill
In like a lion. Out like a lamb. That is the hope of most farmers, in that if we have to endure bad weather. It is usually better at the beginning of March with the progression towards sunnier days at the end of the month. I make no apologies for again talking about our climate, as even with modern technology it still plays a huge part in the farming calendar. March is definitely the month when we hopefully say goodbye to winter and hello to the green shoots of spring. That is one reason why so many shepherds lamb their ewes this month, so that the mums have fresh grass to produce an abundance of milk for their baby lambs. Crops begin to stir from their winter slumber and grass looks to accelerate its growth as the soil begins to warm. Remember too, the clocks ‘spring forward’ one hour (on the 28th).
