Farm Life - the shows must go on by Roger Hill

July is traditionally the time for the popular one day agricultural shows. Unfortunately not all are taking place this year and the ones that are have new Covid-19 rules to adhere to. We are grateful for those that are scheduled to run, such as our local Mid Devon Show on Saturday July 24th at Knightshayes. They are so important to our community in bringing town and country together for a day. There is always something for the whole family to enjoy. Lots of animals both large and small. Machinery from vintage to high tech. Local crafts and skills to admire. An array of different foods and drink. A feast of fun and entertainment to watch in the main ring. With so much more, they all come together to form the ‘rock concert’ of the countryside! The most significant aspect of the shows though is the chance to meet up with friends and colleagues. Mentally it is even more important this year after what we have all been through. In fact, having the chance to chat and enjoy a quality day out keeps us all going - especially when a friend of mine with a glass half empty said, ‘into July now, going towards winter’. ‘Til next time, Roger #TuppertheTractor (website: quoit-at-cross.co.uk)
