New speed limit and barriers for A361 roadworks

A 40 mph speed limit is now in force on the A361 between South Molton and Barnstaple, and traffic barriers (above) have been put in place to protect the workforce carrying out roadworks.

A spokesman for contractors Alun Griffiths said, “The next phase following the ground clearance is to mobilise our plant and work teams to areas we will be widening so they can begin construction work.”

“We have established one compound near Landkey and we will create another close to West Buckland on the A361, plus we’re creating site offices for administration near South Molton.”

The £60 million project to upgrade eight junctions and widen parts of the link road to improve safety is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Meanwhile, a cluster of rare purple orchids (inset above) spotted by a member of the public growing wild on the roadside have been safely relocated.
