This is to acknowledge and thank you for all the support you are giving to us through Missio Malta. We are very much grateful to you for your love and generosity. Warm greetings from Fr Susai Alangaram and all of us in Ilanthalir. We are fine and we wish and pray that you and everyone in Missio Malta is doing fine.

I am pleased to inform you of the completion of the sanitary work carried out at the children’s home at Karungulam with the financial support of Missio Malta. We thank Missio Malta for the generous support. A special word of thanks to Fr Victor and his friends who mobilized this fund for us. We were able to complete the work in time and within the budget. Please find below a brief report on the completion and some photos of the project. Ilanthalir Home for children is run with nearly 60 girls from the drought hit areas of Tiruchirapalli, district of Tamil Nadu. The home was opened in 1997 to accommodate children who had the desire to study and had fewer opportunities to go to school due to financial difficulties or household works. The home started to serve the under privileged children with minimum facilities and in the course of time, we improved the amenities like proper toilets, study rooms, dormitory, etc…

In spite of the improvements made, it has been the long requirement of children to have additional sanitary facilities, since we had only few toilets and bathrooms for the girls. The younger girls were able to take a bath in the open tub. There was the need to protect their privacy since the sanitation area was visible from house tops of a few houses in the village. The department of the government for child welfare had a recommendation that we should increase sanitary facilities for children and protect their privacy. Before the recommendation was converted into a remark, we had the obligation to improve the facilities for children.

During the personal visit of Msgr Valentino Borg, Director of Missio Malta and Fr Victor Agius at the home in January 2020, we made a request personally to aid us financially to fulfill the task of developing amenities and maintain sanitation. They had kept up the promise of raising some donations towards this project. We are

thankful to them, particularly to Fr Victor and his friends for making available a donation to complete the project. The grant was received in February 2021. Without any further delay, we began the work as soon as we received the money. We engaged a local contractor who in fact built the home where the children are staying. He proposed a viable plan and budget for additional six toilets, bathrooms and a urinal. We approved and the work was initiated with the understanding that it would be completed in 3 months’ time. The contractor, masons and the other workers manifested full involvement and commitment and were able to complete the task well before time to the satisfaction of all. The new provision gives complete privacy to children since all the four sides are well covered and almost all children have the provision for toilets and bathrooms. Now every four children have access to one toilet and bathroom which in fact fulfils the norms of the government for children’s homes.

We and all the children of Ilanthalir express our sincere gratitude to Missio Malta and all our sponsors for helping us to achieve this task of improving sanitary facilities at the home for children at Karungulam village. We express our special words of thanks to Msgr Valentino Borg, Fr Victor Agius and all their friends for the generous contribution. The children are very happy about the new facility. We happily and with gratitude remember all of you in our prayers and may God shower upon you abundant blessings and prosperity. We thank you again for your great love. God bless all of you.
