United Pulse Trading (dba AGT Foods) received unanimous support from the MAGIC Fund Screening Committee on June 26, to receive Minot's match for an interest buydown through the Bank of North Dakota's PACE program. The nearly $270,000 in economic development funding would be combined with $500,000 in state funds to go toward an equipment expansion at AGT Foods' most recent facility in SE Minot, the AGT Extrusion Center One line of equipment has been running at this facility for approximately 18 months; this expansion would add three more lines of equipment to make gluten free pasta for markets in North America
As stated by Eric Bartsch, AGT Foods global foods ingredients division head, this expansion will provide stability and potential increased profitability to farm markets in western North Dakota where peas, chickpeas, and lentils are grown. Bartsch stated that AGT Foods is putting all the value for these finished products here in Minot. The recommendation from the MAGIC Fund Screening Committee will now go to the Minot City Council for review and potential approval at a regularly scheduled meeting in late July It is anticipated that the AGT Foods expansion project will be complete by the fall of 2026

Minot State University's criminal justice program has partnered with the Minot Police Department (MPD) to launch a career-shaping apprenticeship program aimed at preparing the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
Through the new MPD Apprenticeship Program, eligible students pursuing a degree in criminal justice or law enforcement will have their tuition covered for up to two years while gaining hands-on experience as part time community service officers with the Minot Police Department In return, participants agree to serve as full time police officers with the department for a minimum of three years upon program completion
"This apprenticeship program represents a strategic partnership between the Minot Police Department and Minot State University to invest in the next generation of law enforcement professionals,” said Captain Jason Sunbakken, administrative commander of the Minot Police Department. “By combining academic instruction with real-world experience and financial support, we are preparing students to serve with professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to our community."
Community service officers will receive departmental uniforms and operate repurposed patrol vehicles designated specifically for the program Training will equip them to:
Assist in investigating traffic accidents
Collect and process evidence, including video footage and crime scenes
Respond to non-emergency complaints
Support funeral processions and tow tagging
Engage in community outreach and recruitment events
Assist the department’s in-house training sergeant
The program aims to free up sworn officers to focus on high-priority duties and support a more proactive approach to policing, ultimately improving public safety and departmental efficiency
Eligible candidates include individuals who meet police officer requirements but lack the necessary educational background.
“The criminal justice program at MSU is constantly striving to provide students with applied and experiential learning opportunities,” said Gary Rabe, Minot State University professor of criminal justice “This program accomplishes that and provides significant financial investment to help defray students' educational costs I am grateful to the leadership within the City of Minot and the Minot Police Department for helping us put this program together This is a win for the City of Minot and the MPD, a win for MSU, but most importantly, a win for the students in the criminal justice program at MSU.”
For more information about the MPD Apprenticeship Program, contact Rabe by EMAIL or Captain Sundbakken by phone at 701-857-4716 or EMAIL.

Moody’s Ratings recently released an updated credit opinion for the state of North Dakota, reaffirming the state’s strong financial position and maintaining the state credit rating at the second highest level – Aa1 stable
“The strong Moody’s credit rating largely reflects our substantial reserves, low debt levels and a solid track record of responsible budget management,” said Office of Management and Budget Director Joe Morrissette “These strengths position North Dakota to maintain flexibility and continue essential state services and programs, even amid oil price fluctuations or broader economic slowdowns.”
Morrissette added that effective leadership from both the administration and legislature has allowed North Dakota to sustain the conservative state fiscal management practices needed to maintain such a rating.
The report notes that the North Dakota ”is well positioned to weather potential economic and revenue volatility because of its history of conservative revenue forecasting, low fixed costs and strong reserves ” However, the state’s economy is uniquely reliant on volatile commodities, and Moody’s notes the importance of continuing strong reserve balances in the future: “[The] state’s relatively volatile economic and revenue composition will continue to challenge its budget predictability, making above-average reserve levels an important credit stabilizer.”
A Moody's credit rating directly impacts the state's borrowing costs and overall financial health. A higher rating indicates a lower risk of default, leading to lower interest rates on bonds and other debt instruments

LOCALPRINTINGPLANTDELIVERS KIDSCOOPNEWS
Greater Northwest Publishing (GNWP) of Minot and its General Manager Bob Kastner have quietly been impacting literacy at local schools over the past three years. Minot Chamber Ambassadors were exposed to the project during a recent visit to the plant, located on Burdick Expressway.

In a major step toward modernizing and simplifying the user experience with state government, North Dakota has launched the first phase of ND Gateway. Led by North Dakota Information Technology (NDIT) and other partner agencies, ND Gateway creates a single portal through which business owners and entrepreneurs can access essential state government services
ND Gateway’s first digital experience gives citizens and business owners access to a centralized source of business tools and resources It will continue to evolve into a one-stop location for business-related services, including registrations, annual reports, tax and insurance compliance, and general tutorials for North Dakota’s growing economic community.
“This is an exciting first step of many for ND Gateway. Business leaders should spend their time on the needs of their customers and staff, not drowning in redundant layers of bureaucracy. ND Gateway is one more way North Dakota continues to be the best state in the country to do business,” said Evonne Amundson, Chief Business Application Officer “This portal puts citizens and other users in the hub of business support, with a ‘ no wrong door’ approach If someone currently knows where to get business-related services, they will still have direct access through individual agency websites But new and returning users alike will find NDGateway.nd.gov a convenient option for services and information.”
Key Features of ND Gateway
Business Interest Form: A convenient way for entrepreneurs and users to share new business ideas with the state, ensuring that potential opportunities are quickly identified and supported
Business Checklist: A personalized checklist created from five business-related state agencies to guide users through creating or modifying a business in North Dakota
Starting a Business Form: An updated “Starting a Business” web form from the North Dakota Department of Commerce. This enhanced version immediately connects users to resources at the Small Business Development Center, as well as Commerce’s Community Services and Economic Development & Finance teams.
