COMMUNITYRALLIESBEHINDMINOT AREAFOODDRIVESPARKEDBY GOVERNMENTSHUTDOWN

In the wake of the recent government shutdown, the Minot community mobilized quickly and compassionately, launching the Minot Area Food Drive to support families experiencing sudden financial strain What began as an emergency response grew into a broad, community-wide effort that underscored the region’s long-standing spirit of generosity.

For nearly two weeks, residents, businesses, and civic groups donated non-perishable food, diapers, hand warmers, and toiletries which are all essential items that help stabilize households facing uncertainty. All donations were divided between The Lord’s Cupboard and the First Sergeant’s Council food pantries, two organizations that play a critical role in supporting both civilian and military families

By the end of the drive, volunteers tallied 3,724 pounds of donated goods The Minot Area Community Foundation strengthened the impact even further by providing a $1 match for every pound donated to the Lord’s Cupboard Food Pantry, which was an impressive 2,584 pounds leading to an additional $2,584 of support

In addition to the food and financial match, the Minot Junior Golf Association made a substantial contribution of its own. Through its gaming funds, the organization donated $2,500 to each pantry, injecting an additional $5,000 directly into local hunger-relief efforts.

The shutdown was the spark that ignited the drive, but it was the community’s heart that carried it forward.

“When the shutdown hit, people started feeling the effects immediately,” said Keli Rosselli-Sullivan. “We knew we had to act, and Minot showed up in a big way Every donation, every dollar, every act of kindness reflected the strength of this community ”

With shelves restocked and financial support secured, both pantries are now better equipped to meet the increased demand heading into the winter season What started as a crisis response has evolved into a testament to Minot’s resilience and commitment to helping neighbors through difficult times

SHOWCASEO

Our 35th Annual Showcase of Business presented by SRT transformed the ND State Fair Center Magic Place into a glittering Winter Wonderland, where nearly 900 attendees explored 73 creatively themed booths, tasted local flavors, and enjoyed a night full of networking and excitement. From snow-dusted displays, icy igloos, and ski-lift backdrops to snowball toss games and incredibly creative decorations, the festive energy was matched only by the warmth of our community connections.

Attendees enjoyed delicious offerings from Do Eat Asian Cuisine, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Rowdy’s Concessions & Catering, and Ziggy’s Caribbean Cuisine, fueling an evening of conversation and celebration The constant hum of activity was emphasized by cheers for prize giveaways, including an incredible $2,500 travel voucher from Delta Vacations that added extra buzz to an already electric event

FBUSINESS TWORKINGATTHE

Thank you again to all our booths, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees who made this winter night one to remember, as this year’s Showcase of Business was a true reflection of the community spirit that defines the Minot area with such strong attendance, imaginative decorations, and meaningful conversations. We’re already excited for what’s ahead as planning begins for next year’s event, set for November 12, 2026, with the theme “Roll Out the Red Carpet.”

For our member investors, the Showcase was more than just a night out, it was an opportunity to connect. Travis Smith of SOFT-WHERE walked away with five new business leads, while Sarah Thorson from AFLAC reported three promising connections. “Showcase of Business is a way for our member investors to not only showcase what they do, but to make those connections with potential clients,” said Carla Dolan, Vice President of the Minot Area Chamber EDC

A heartfelt thank-you goes to SRT for their continued support as presenting sponsor, and to our event partners Delta Vacations, Hometown Radio Group, and KMOT for helping bring the magic to life The creativity and camaraderie on display are what make this one of our most anticipated annual events

MOVINGTRANSITDEVELOPMENTFORWARD INTHEMINOTAREA

The Transit Development Plan seeks to evaluate existing fixed route (bus) and paratransit (door-to-door) service and provide a roadmap for improvements The Transit Development Plan Steering Committee held their second meeting on November 12 at Minot City Hall Along with other community and regional partners, the Minot Area Chamber EDC sits on this committee

Committee members reviewed aspirational goals for the transit system to be achieved over the next decade and beyond. Committee members reviewed the results of the transit survey which was open from late September to early November. A total of 143 survey responses were received and the information gathered will help prioritize investments in the transit system. Committee members also reviewed the results of a peer analysis, which compared Minot City Transit system performance to seven other transit providers with similar characteristics. Overall, Minot City Transit is performing relatively well compared to peers, although there is always room for improvement. The Transit Development Plan Steering Committee will hold their next meeting in December The plan is expected to be completed in Fall 2026

Minot Mayor Mark Jantzer and Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC) President | CEO Brekka Kramer were honored to attend the Assumption of Responsibility Ceremony for Gen. Kenneth S. Wilsbach, who was formally installed as the 24th Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force on November 18, 2025, at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland The event marked a significant transition in Air Force leadership and was held in the presence of distinguished guests, including senior military officials, civic leaders, and Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink

Gen Wilsbach brings a wealth of experience to the position, having most recently served as the commander of Pacific Air Forces, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening Indo-Pacific security and alliance partnerships His assumption of this top leadership role comes at a critical time, with the Air Force focused on modernizing its force structure and deepening innovation to meet future threats As Chief of Staff, he now serves as the senior uniformed officer responsible for organizing, training, and equipping over 689,000 activeduty, Guard, Reserve, and civilian personnel

Kramer and Jantzer attended the ceremony as invited guests of the Secretary of the Air Force, representing Minot’s deep and ongoing commitment to the Air Force mission. Their presence reflects the close relationship between Minot Air Force Base and the broader Air Force enterprise, especially through organizations like Task Force 21 and the MACEDC’s Military Affairs Committee, which continue to advocate for Minot’s strategic role in national defense.

The Minot Area Chamber EDC remains proud to stand beside Air Force leadership during these key transitions and will continue its work to support military families, infrastructure, and strategic missions based in our community. With new leadership comes new opportunities, and MACEDC looks forward to building on its strong partnerships to help shape a strong, modern, and resilient Air Force for generations to come

On November 4, the Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC) was honored to witness a significant moment in United States Air Force history as Gen Stephen L. Davis was promoted to four-star General and assumed command of Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) during a ceremony at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. This invitation-only event was a scaled-back affair due to the federal government shutdown, but the significance of the occasion was felt by all in attendance.

Gen. Davis became the eighth AFGSC Commander and one of only five active four-star generals in the U.S. Air Force today. Remarkably, he is just the tenth Officer Training School (OTS) graduate in the service’s 78-year history to reach the four-star rank and the first Department of the Air Force Inspector General promoted to this level since 1964 Gen Davis is no stranger to Minot, having commanded the 91st Missile Wing at Minot Air Force Base from June 2011 to June 2012 Minot’s deep-rooted relationship with AFGSC leadership was reflected in the presence of Task Force 21 Chair Pete Hankla and MACEDC President | CEO Brekka Kramer, who attended the ceremony in their roles as AFGSC Civic Leaders

We extend our deepest appreciation to Gen Thomas A Bussiere, who officially retired following the Change of Command His exceptional leadership, dedication, and support for the mission of AFGSC and communities like Minot left a lasting impact Minot was proud to have four civic leaders serving under Gen Bussiere, and we now look forward to continuing that strong relationship with Gen. Davis.

In addition to the AFGSC transition, we also want to recognize and express our strong support for the 8th Air Force Change of Command, where Maj. Gen. Jason Rueschhoff assumed leadership of the Mighty Eighth and Joint Global Strike Operations Center (J-GSOC). While we were not present in person, our commitment to the men and women of 8th Air Force and their critical mission remains steadfast. We congratulate Maj. Gen. Andrew J. Gebara on his outstanding service and leadership as he passes the torch.

MACEDC is proud to support military leadership transitions that s Global Strike community, Minot remains committed to strengthen upholding our shared mission of excellence, readiness, and resilienc

The Department of Defense estimates that 200,000 service members transition to civilian life every year Veterans are a vital part of North Dakota’s workforce, making up 7 4% of the population These individuals are cross trained in multiple skills and have experience in many tasks making them a valuable asset to any organization Despite this, many veterans face barriers when entering the workforce and employers are often unsure how to translate military experience to the job requirements. With two Air Force bases and a statewide National Guard, North Dakota employers have a vast opportunity to seek out highly trained service members who are transitioning to civilian life.

The Veterans Employment Webinar: Beyond the Uniform, was aimed to help employers connect with the veteran talent pool and translate military skills into civilian job requirements Put on by Job Service ND and hosted by Pat Bertagnolli, Executive Director of Job Service ND, and expert panels including Minot Area Chamber EDC President | CEO Brekka Kramer It targeted employers in North Dakota who may be unsure how to align a veteran's experience with job requirements The session highlighted the benefits veterans bring to an organization and the programs available to support their integration into the workforce

NORTHWESTARTSCENTERPRESENTS 'UMBRAE:MEZZOTINTSBYJACOBCROOK'

The Northwest Arts Center presents “Umbrae” a solo exhibition by Mississippi artist and INT’L All Media 2024 Best of Show recipient Jacob Crook, on view in the Northwest Arts Center’s Walter Piehl Gallery from Oct. 23 until Dec. 20.

Crook’s exhibition consists of 20 mezzotint prints depicting landscape and interior settings that imply moody narratives and display the ways in which light transforms ordinary locations into otherworldly environments His prints examine how light spills into a nocturnal space, illuminating details while establishing contrasting highlights and shadows Crook creates scenes of quiet urban streets, intimate interiors, and abandoned commercial areas that invite peaceful contemplation and interpolation from the viewer

“My intent is not to tell a story directly, but to set the stage in such a way that viewers are compelled to consider the moments before and after the one presented based on their own associations with the imagery,” Crook states.

CONTINUEDFROMPAGE39

Crook works primarily in the reductive engraving technique of mezzotint printmaking and is also trained as an observational oil painter and draftsman. He completed his MFA degree in printmaking from Syracuse University in 2014 and received a BFA with emphasis in painting from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 2009 Crook currently works as an assistant professor of art and printmaking coordinator in the Department of Art at Mississippi State University

Mezzotint is a seventeenth-century printmaking technique celebrated for its deep tonal richness, in which an image gradually emerges from darkness into light The artist repeatedly rocks a toothed metal tool across a copper plate to create a velvety, ink-holding surface, then uses scrapers and burnishers to smooth selected areas to not hold ink. This burnishing brings out the lighter values. Once the plate is prepared, it is inked and printed onto dampened paper using an intaglio press.

Crook’s visit to Minot State University is cosponsored by Flat Tail Press. An educational printmaking studio, Flat Tail Press brings students and artists together to make limited edition prints. Providing an opportunity for students to work with professional artists through hands-on printmaking, these sessions can also be observed by visitors to the campus

The exhibition is available for viewing Tuesday through Friday, 10 a m to 5 p m , and Saturday from 1-5 p m The Walter Piehl Gallery is located on the lower level of the Gordon B. Olson Library at Minot State University, with its own entrance on the south side of the library. The gallery is closed on holidays. The exhibition and related events are free and open to the public.

The Northwest Arts Center is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts

MINOTSTATESAACPARTNERSWITHMAKE-A-

The Minot State University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is partnering with Make-A-Wish to do a pie-in-the-face fundraiser on campus on Wednesday, Dec 3 from 11 a m until 2 p m , in the MSU Beaver Dam

Students and employees will have the opportunity to donate by purchasing a pie ($2 for students / $5 for employees and the general public) and selecting who they want to receive a pie in the face.

Minot State's Mallory Hoogensen, MSU SAAC president, is the creator of the initiative at MSU. She found inspiration for a unique approach to the NCAA Division II's partnership with Make-A-Wish during the SAAC Summit

“We wanted to do something new this academic year for our Make-A-Wish fundraising efforts,” she said “In the past, our fundraising has consisted almost entirely of 50/50 raffle tickets at men’s and women’s hockey games This past summer at the SAAC Summit, attendees brainstormed ways to raise money for this amazing organization.

“I remembered seeing something on social media about a fundraiser at a different university where they did an event that is very similar to what we are putting on in December. After bouncing this idea off SAAC reps from other NSIC institutions, I decided that this would be an amazing opportunity for not only our SAAC to get all athletes involved, but also our whole campus community ”

A total of 18 faculty, staff, and coaches have signed up for 30-minute time slots, with three participants per time slot Along with the overall fundraiser, there will also be a friendly competition between participants, with a winner announced for each time slot and an overall winner.

“By having representation from both athletic and academic faculty, we aim to bridge the gap between these two sides of campus to support a cause that is bigger than ourselves,” Hoogensen added

Amanda Godfread, chief philanthropy officer for Make-A-Wish North Dakota, will be on campus as well, and Godfread is planning to have a wish kid present to throw the first pie. Division II raised nearly $270,000 in the 2024-25 academic year and nearly $70,000 more than in the 2023-24 academic year.

According to Hoogensen, SAAC aims to raise $700 for Make-A-Wish during the event, pairing this fundraiser with four major initiatives SAAC and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) sponsor each year

“Minot State SAAC and the NSIC have four initiatives each year: Wellness and Belonging, It’s a Slam Dunk Don’t Drive Drunk, Green Bandana Project/Mental Health Awareness, and Life After Collegiate Athletics,” Hoogensen said. “On top of these initiatives, NCAA DII and the NSIC are partners with Make-A-Wish, where student-athletes get the opportunity to raise money to fund wishes across the United States. Student-athletes at any campus can use their platform to make a difference in their community and support those going through something unimaginable.

“The work that we do as members of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, on campus or within Minot, can reach Make-A-Wish children across the nation ”

Since 2003, Division II schools have donated more than $7 million to Make-A-Wish and helped grant over 700 wishes for children with critical illnesses For more information on DII and Make-A-Wish, see the NCAA DII WEBSITE.

“God has truly blessed the work of Dakota Hope,” Nadia shared “It has been an honor to be part of a ministry where the dignity of every human life is honored, and where moms and dads are given the information and support they need to make healthy, life-affirming choices for themselves and their baby I am so grateful for all the support and encouragement from my family, especially my husband of 47 years, Paul (AKA Mr Dakota Hope), co-workers, board members, volunteers and donors Before becoming Director in 2016, Nadia served as Board President and was among those who helped bring the vision of a pregnancy help center in Minot to life in September 2013. With more than 50 years in nursing, she says this role has been a meaningful capstone to her career. After the transition, she plans to volunteer with Dakota Hope and enjoy more time with her family.

We are pleased to announce that Mandy Crocker, BSN, RN, will be stepping into the role of Clinic Director. Mandy has been part of the Dakota Hope team for the past three years and brings more than 25 years of nursing experience, including leadership in case management, quality improvement, behavioral health, and rehabilitation. Since joining Dakota Hope, she has helped open the Tioga and Bottineau locations and provides ultrasound services across all three clinics Mandy and her husband, Pastor Dana Crocker of Minot Home Church, have been married for 27 years and have five children, three of whom were adopted “It’s an incredible honor to continue the work Nadia helped start,” Mandy shared “Dakota Hope is more than a clinic; it’s a ministry that walks alongside people with love and truth ”Nadia expressed confidence in the transition, saying: “Dakota Hope will be in good hands with Mandy as the new Clinic Director She and I will work together for a time to ensure a smooth transition Because unexpected pregnancy continues to affect many families, the work of Dakota Hope is needed now more than ever I hope everyone continues to pray for and support Dakota Hope and Mandy as she takes on this leadership role ”

Ricky Aberle, President of the Dakota Hope Board of Directors joins in expressing deep gratitude and encouragement: “As a Board, we thank Nadia for her faithful service and leadership. We have great confidence that, with Mandy at the helm, many lives will continue to be saved and changed through the ministry of Dakota Hope.”

Since 2013, Dakota Hope Clinic, a nonprofit organization governed by a local volunteer Board of Directors has served the Minot community and expanded its life-affirming support to rural areas across North Dakota. The pregnancy and parenting services are provided free of charge and they do not accept government money, so they rely on the generosity of donors to keep the doors open Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement, and partnership as we move forward in this new chapter of ministry

A $25,000 grant was awarded to the Trinity Health Foundation to support its Parkinson’s Exercise Rehab Program, which provides no-cost exercise programming proven to improve mobility, longevity, and overall quality of life for individuals with Parkinson’s disease This is a fitting gift from the Odell Fund, as Delores lived with Parkinson’s disease and the couple cared deeply about supporting programs that enhance quality of life for those facing similar challenges As the Parkinson’s Exercise Rehab Program prepares for a location move, these funds will help ensure services continue without interruption and support the purchase of needed equipment for the new space
