THE NEW LANGUAGE OF EUROPEAN APARTMENTS
BY TOP 100 INTERIOR DESIGNER
In cities like Paris, Barcelona, and Milan, the grand old apartments of Europe are quietly entering a new chapter. These homes, layered with architectural detail and cultural memory, are increasingly being reimagined as modern sanctuaries that reflect both the lives and values of a globally connected generation.
A NEW CHAPTER FOR EUROPE’S HISTORIC APARTMENTS
While these apartments once served traditional living arrangements, today they are being adapted into secondary homes, creative hideaways, or lock-up-and-go bases for international business travellers. Their charm lies in their balance of intimacy and stature.
“Highceilings, ornatemouldings, wornparquetfloors,anddeep-set windowstellastorythatnewer buildsoftencannotreplicate,” says Michele Rhoda, ARRCC Director and Designer. “Yetthewaypeople livehaschanged, anddesigners aresteppingintointerpretthis evolutionwithclarityandgrace.”
European apartments offer a sense of place that is hard to find elsewhere. Often situated in cultural hubs, they combine rich heritage with vibrant city living. Their scale, location, and architectural detail make them ideal foundations for thoughtful reinvention.
However, the layout of these spaces often reflects an older mode of living. Rooms can be fragmented and disconnected, with structural columns or thick interior walls shaping circulation in unexpected ways. The design challenge lies not in erasing these quirks, but in refining and celebrating them. Heritage elements like detailed cornices, patterned wooden flooring, and original window proportions add character to a contemporary style.
Designers avoid placing heavy furniture near windows and focus instead on opening the orientation of the apartment to its best views. Sightlines are extended through carefully placed joinery, concealed lighting, and feature shelving at the back of rooms to create a sense of depth. These focal points not only draw the eye, but visually expand the apartment, making even narrow layouts feel generous.
Ceilings are kept clean to heighten volume and make space for statement flooring below, and this might include marble inlays, layered textures, or patterned rugs that visually ground the room. Working with existing window placements, rather than against them, ensures that natural light maintains its rhythm and harmony with the original proportions of the architecture.
A renewed emphasis on craftsmanship is taking hold across Europe, echoing the design sensibilities of artists rooted in places like South Africa. In an age of mass production and digitalization, there is growing desire for tactile pieces that feel meaningful and reflect personality.
DESIGNING WITH PURPOSE
The process of reimagining these apartments begins long before plans are drawn, and understanding the emotional and lifestyle needs of the client is central to the design journey.
“Throughdetailedquestionnaires and one on one conversations, the teambuildsaholisticpictureofhow the client wants to live, entertain, andrecharge,” explains Michele Rhoda.
Outdoor spaces, when available, are treated with reverence. Whether it is a hidden courtyard, a narrow balcony, or a rooftop with a view, these natural extensions of the home are framed thoughtfully, allowing even compact apartments to feel expansive, where maximizing views becomes the priority.
Renovating within Europe’s heritage buildings brings unique challenges. There are often strict preservation guidelines, and not all features can be altered or removed. But within these boundaries lies a creative opportunity to innovate in ways that respect the past, while gently modernizing the experience of space.
This sensitive balance is embodied in the work of ARRCC, a Cape Town based design studio known for its philosophy of curated elegance and a culturally rich design language. ARRCC brings an art focused, bespoke sensibility to every European project, merging contemporary needs with

SLOW LIVING
The phrase ‘the art of slow living’ is all over the interiors world at the moment; to be honest, we are not complaining. Being told to slow down is music to our ears and is exactly what we endeavoured to create in our Chelsea trade space.
With this more intentional design, the aim is to retreat from the chaos of daily life and create more peaceful spaces. Veering away from the ‘design over comfort’ plague of the last decade or so, we are moving towards a beautiful yet comfortable style, reflecting the decisions we are taking in other aspects of our day-to-day life. From what we are choosing to wear, to where we go on holiday, there has been a shift to prioritising relaxation and wellness, so why not start in the home?
In our Chelsea showroom, we already have a great canvas, a Tedd Todd oak floor which leans toward this aesthetic. Of course, one of the main elements for slow living is natural materials. So, layering this with Belgian linen sofas and natural wood furniture is always a nice starting point. Then other textural elements, like rattan and leather help to add more depth.
Another important aspect is the colour palette; again, Mother Nature is queen. Browns, creams and greens, all colours seen in the wild, dominate. As you walk into the space, you cannot help but stop and take a breath and ‘slow down’. There are little pockets of peace too, such as this reading nook pictured. Designed to be areas of minimal clutter that prioritise relaxation above all else.
The other design element, which we love, having come from an antiques background, back in 1975. We encourage the use of mixing heirloom or nostalgic pieces. Vintage books or passed down antiques would just add to the layering and warmth of this space.
Timelessness is something to be admired and encouraged in a world of consumption and fastpaced chaos. Collecting, keeping, and repurposing are all what we like to hear. New should be mixed with old. But you should also love the ‘new’ so much you want to keep it and restyle it or pass it on for decades to come. These are the intentional design pieces we hope to create for spaces like this. So that when you leave, you feel better than when you arrived. That is if you ever choose to leave this slow-paced space!
If you’re in the trade and in the area, why not book an appointment to visit our showroom and experience the zen for yourself?
DESIGNING INTERIORS FOR HUMAN WELLNESS
At MP Tech, we specialise in integrating human-centric lighting and discreet smart technology that supports health, mood, and daily rhythm, all without compromising the integrity of a carefully crafted interior.
Lighting That Works With the Body, Not Against It
Human-centric, or circadian lighting, is built around the body’s natural rhythms - stimulating alertness during the day with brighter, cooler tones, and supporting rest in the evening with warmer, lower light. It’s subtle but powerful, helping occupants feel more energised, focused, and rested.
In luxury homes, spas, and hospitality environments, this kind of intuitive lighting elevates comfort from a concept to a lived experience. For designers, it presents a new layer of creative and technical potential: delivering atmosphere and wellbeing in one.
Design Collaboration from the Ground Up
The success of any lighting strategy lies in how early it’s considered. When technology is part of the design conversation from the beginning, it becomes invisible yet impactful, layered into the
architecture, joinery, and material palette, rather than added on top.
We work directly with designers and architects to shape how lighting behaves in a space: from shadow play and ceiling washes to colour temperature transitions and scene-setting. It’s about storytelling through light, not just illumination.
Biophilic Principles, Brought Indoors
We also believe lighting is key to biophilic design, helping interiors feel more connected to nature. By simulating the ebb and flow of natural light indoors, even spaces with limited daylight can feel open, calming, and alive.
When combined with organic textures, greenery, and acoustic design, the result is a space that supports not just lifestyle, but wellbeing, especially for clients seeking quiet luxury and intentional living.
The Future of Wellness-Driven Interiors
As the boundary between home, work, and retreat continues to blur, lighting is evolving from decorative feature to essential wellness tool. Thoughtful, human-first design demands systems that respond, adapt, and disappear, empowering both designers and occupants alike.
We’re here to help you design interiors that don’t just look extraordinary, but feel it too.
THE V PENTHOUSE
The V Penthouse by Badie Architects is a bold exploration of materiality, spatial harmony, and redefining contemporary living.
This avant-garde residence is conceived as a seamless interplay between raw, industrial aesthetics and refined craftsmanship, embodying a meticulous balance of strength and elegance.
At the heart of the space, a statement fireplace anchors the living area, creating a focal point that enhances both the warmth and architectural depth of the penthouse. Surrounding it, the residence unfolds through a carefully curated selection of high-quality materials, each chosen for its durability, aesthetic integrity, and tactile appeal. The penthouse features self-leveling concrete floors and walls, forming a continuous and monolithic surface that enhances spatial fluidity.
The steel cladding introduces a sculptural quality to the structure, providing a sense of depth and permanence, while stainless steel doors and ducts serve as both functional and aesthetic elements, reinforcing the industrial undertones of the design. To counterbalance these bold materials, raw wood elements are strategically integrated, bringing warmth, texture, and a natural contrast to the overall composition.
Beyond its architectural integrity, the V Penthouse is designed as a fully integrated smart home, where state-of-the-art automation enhances the living experience, offering seamless control over lighting, climate, security, and entertainment systems. The interior is furnished with an exquisite selection of pieces from Fendi, Cassina, Flos, Minotti, and other globally renowned brands, each chosen to complement the penthouse’s contemporary ethos.
A defining feature of the space is an authentic Kahhal Persian rug, adding a layer of cultural richness and artisanal heritage, alongside a full marble bathtub, which serves as the bedroom’s sculptural focal point. Every design decision within the V Penthouse reflects an uncompromising dedication to material authenticity, spatial clarity, and the future of avant-garde living.

EMBRACING AUTUMN: SEASONAL
STYLE FOR YOUR BATHROOM
WITH A RIPPLES BATHROOM DESIGN SPECIALIST
There’s something about the shift into autumn that makes us want to retreat indoors and savour the comforts of home. As the evenings draw in and the mornings turn crisp, it’s the perfect time to bring a little seasonal warmth into your bathroom.
Here, Jo, Senior Designer at Ripples London, shares this year’s autumn/ winter interiors trends - all about grounding colours, tactile finishes and lighting that makes you want to linger just that little bit longer.
THIS SEASON’S BATHROOM TRENDS
Earthy, comforting colours
Rich greens, warm terracottas and deep, chocolatey browns are having their moment. These shades wrap a room in warmth, making them perfect for cosy autumn nights. Pair them with natural stone, wood accents or brushed brass to keep the look timeless.
Texture you can feel
This season is all about materials that are just as satisfying to touch as they are to look atthink softly honed stone, fluted timber, woven baskets and matte finishes. In the bathroom, it might be a textured vanity, patterned wall tiles or just a beautiful storage piece that adds depth to the space.
Lighting that sets the mood
Bright, overhead lighting is out. Instead, think layers - wall lights for a gentle glow, warm LEDs under a vanity, and maybe even a dimmer so you can create a spa-like atmosphere for long autumn soaks.
THREE EASY WAYS TO GET YOUR BATHROOM AUTUMN-READY
1. Switch to seasonal textiles - Trade lightweight towels for thick, fluffy ones in rich autumnal shades.
2. Warm it up underfoot - A soft, deep-pile bath mat (or discreet underfloor heating if you’re updating your space) makes chilly mornings a little kinder.
3. Layer your lighting - Add a small table lamp to a countertop or shelf for an unexpected, cosy glow. Paired with wall sconces or under-vanity LEDs, it creates a warm, spa-like mood.
A few small changes can make your bathroom feel like the cosiest room in the house this season. After all, when the nights get longer, there’s nothing better than sinking into a warm bath, surrounded by soft light and a hint of autumn in the air.
POWER
INVISIBLE SAFETY: A NEW STANDARD IN BATHROOM DESIGN
Beneath the clean lines and calm surfaces of a perfectly designed bathroom lies an invisible detail: safety you can trust. SENSTEC proves that practicality can be every bit as elegant as design itself.
Step into a well-designed bathroom and you feel it instantly.
A sense of calm. Clean lines. Subtle luxury. A space that feels both indulgent and yet effortless.
Safety, if you think about it at all, is something you simply take for granted. Yet safety matters more than ever.
Slips and falls in the bathroom remain one of the most common causes of injury at home, affecting not just older adults, but people of all ages. The problem is, the traditional approach to safety rarely complements beautiful design. Plastic accessories, and industrial-looking add-ons may serve a purpose, but they jar with the serene aesthetic a well-planned bathroom should deliver.
This is the challenge a secondgeneration family business in Northern Ireland set out to solve. Their answer is an innovation in shower design. SENSTEC is an anti-slip shower surface so refined it becomes part of the tray itself, offering quiet protection without ever disturbing the look of the space.
Instead of adding an applied coating or a sticker to the surface of the shower floor, SENSTEC engineered safety directly into the very fabric of the tray. Thousands of barely visible raised “dimples” are
positioned with precision, in height, shape and spacing, giving your feet a secure grip even in wet, soapy conditions. The result is a surface you only truly notice when you step onto it; a reassuring stability without any harshness underfoot.
In a University of Ulster user study, the response was unanimous: it doesn’t look medical, it feels secure, it offers almost spa-like comfort. One person described it as “massage-like,” while another said it felt “like reflexology for your feet.”
The design goes beyond the highest slip-resistance standards, yet it has no coatings that will wear away and need to be replaced and no mats to remove for cleaning. The grip is permanent, built in for the lifetime of the tray. After 42 prototypes, the science behind the dimples - flat tops, steep sides, and exact spacing ensures the exact friction required to stop a slip, without interrupting the feeling of luxury.
Because the anti-slip texture is subtle, the tray integrates effortlessly into any design scheme. Whether the bathroom is a study in Scandinavian restraint or classic elegance, SENSTEC becomes part of the architecture rather than an accessory. It is precisely why designers and architects appreciate it so much.
SENSTEC offers a layer of safety that their clients will value, without compromising their vision.
While the ageing-in-place movement often drives conversations about safety, SENSTEC’s appeal is far broader. Young children finding their balance, busy parents rushing before work, anyone recovering from surgery, all benefit from the same quiet protection. It’s safety for every stage of life, in a form that never asks you to choose between function and beauty.
In the world of design, there’s a saying: Good design disappears. It doesn’t demand your attention; it simply makes your life better. That’s exactly what SENSTEC achieves. Every time you step into the shower, there’s an invisible layer of engineering working in your favour, keeping you upright, confident, and focused on the experience, not the risk.
SENSTEC is safety reimagined as luxury. A detail that enhances the value of the space rather than diminishing it. And once you have experienced it, you will wonder why every shower tray isn’t made this way.
We went beyond the ordinary Designed with purpose That’s felt every time you step into the shower

STEFANO GALLIZIOLI FOR NEUTRA: SCULPTURAL FORMS TO INHABIT
A collection of upholstered pieces and seating where material experimentation meets architectural precision and sartorial elegance.
Some projects are born from a sudden intuition; others evolve slowly, taking form over time. Such is the story of the collaboration between Stefano Gallizioli and NEUTRA unveiled at Milan Design Week 2025: a graceful convergence of upholstered furnishings and seating, where sculpture meets function, and materiality finds its voice in a refined, harmonious dialogue.
It all began with a sofa — a bespoke piece designed by Gallizioli for the entrance of Emanuele Chicco Busnelli’s offices, the soul behind the company. More than just a seat, it was conceived as a grounded presence: sculptural, solid, and quietly inviting, anchoring the space with understated gravity.
Over time, that initial gesture blossomed into Sao Miguel — a modular constellation of upholstered forms, where soft, fluid lines invite both repose and reflection. Around the central sofa, poufs and surfaces drift like gentle satellites, echoing the scattered terrain of an archipelago. Here, the sofa is no longer just an object — it
becomes an inhabitable landscape, a geography of comfort and form.
Alongside Sao Miguel, a second vision emerges — one born entirely anew for NEUTRA: Ordos. Where the former speaks in soft, organic curves, Ordos finds its voice in architecture — in the quiet strength of form and volume. Inspired by the boundless Mongolian desert from which it takes its name, it evokes a horizon where earth and sky dissolve in a seamless breath of sand and stillness.
This vision unfolds in a system of upholstered elements defined by clarity and restraint — a suspended platform composed of
distinct, modular forms. Expansive horizontal planes, deep generous seating, and low, continuous backrests echo the vastness of open plains and shifting dunes. The result is not merely furniture, but a place of stillness — a spatial poem that invites pause and contemplation.
Stone and textile — in fabric or leather — converse in tactile harmony with the landscape that inspired them, grounding the composition in a sense of elemental calm and spatial clarity.
The story finds its quiet crescendo in Artemisia — a duet of lightweight seats, defined by a graphic silhouette that seamlessly unites
seat and backrest in a single, fluid gesture. Named after the legendary commander Artemisia — the lone woman to lead Xerxes’ fleet — the collection speaks in the language of contrasts: softness and strength held in perfect accord. Its embracing contours, wrapped in the tactile richness of shaved sheepskin and goat fur, invite stillness and surrender, while the solid wooden frame anchors the form with quiet resolve. Artemisia is not merely a seat, but a companion to the spaces it inhabits — a timeless expression of elegance and intent, equally at home in the intimacy of a residence or the refinement of a hospitality setting. An object to be lived with, and perhaps to be inspired by.
But it is in the choice of materials that the boldest gesture is made. In both sofas, stone — NEUTRA’s signature material — is paired with upholstery, integrating into the design with subtlety and character. It appears in the details, on the surfaces, and in the sculptural joints that enrich and define the pieces. Treated with varying finishings, the stone becomes part of an intimate and tactile narrative.
Yet it is in the choice of materials that the boldest gesture quietly unfolds. In both sofas, stone — NEUTRA’s signature element
— meets upholstery in a union of substance and softness. Not imposed, but integrated with quiet conviction, stone reveals itself in the details: in the surfaces, the sculptural joints, the subtle accents that enrich and define each piece. Treated with varied finishes, it sheds its usual weight, becoming tactile, intimate. Here, stone is not static; it becomes part of a sensorial narrative.
“WorkingwithNEUTRAmeans designingwithdepth,” says Stefano Gallizioli. “It is a freedom groundedintrust—knowingthat each choice will be met with care, withsensitivity.Itisadialogue oflistening, aprocessthatflows naturally, likeagarmenttailoredto measure”.
What binds the collection is a shared design philosophy: one that is familiar, meticulously crafted, and open to experimentation. Each element is conceived to be interpreted, shaped, and made personal — a living system that welcomes the voice of those who inhabit it.
For Stefano Gallizioli and NEUTRA, design is a return to essence: a quiet pursuit of what is lasting and true. It means crafting forms that stand the test of time, weaving meaningful connections between materials, and creating space for that rare, silent balance — where beauty is not imposed, but simply revealed. A harmony that makes objects not only timeless, but deeply, intuitively right.

CURRENT INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS
Stuart Dance, Director, InHouse Inspired Room Design, subsidiary of Schüller.
MEANINGFUL USE OF COLOUR
Today, more than ever, interior design is an expression of our personality, individuality and values. With the current cost of living, and rise of remote working, people are both staying in the homes they’ve purchased for longer and spending more time in them. As a result, curated colour palettes, tailored to individual taste are more important than ever – gone are the days when homeowners would opt for neutral, impersonal shades to create a blank canvas for future buyers.
We’re seeing people opt for more colourful palettes, celebrating selfexpression.
Colour plays a crucial role in the home. It tells stories. It can be used to create emotional impact. The right palette has the power to transform not just a space, but your mood. And when applied thoughtfully, colour becomes a useful tool get meaningful value out of your space.
Psychologists have long recognised that colours can have a visceral impact on our emotions. For example, orange evokes success and confidence, yellow inspires creativity and happiness, blue promotes trust and tranquillity and red stimulates excitement and energy.
To guide homeowners in their design choices, Schüller has developed a comprehensive colour concept,
showcasing its 28-shade colour spectrum. This tool allows customers to visualise the perfect balance of tones for their space and experiment with complimentary or contrasting hues. next125 also has a 25-colour scheme with shades ranging from soft and harmonious to vibrant and bold.
There is an interesting link between colour trends and global stability – when times are politically and economically uncertain, people crave bright, energising colours as a form of self-expression, and escapism, embracing boldness and individuality while rejecting the ‘safe’ neutral tones often preferred in times of stability. In the current global landscape – characterised by major powershifts and economic uncertainty – it seems the all-neutral trend is out, and a splash of colour is here to stay.
Schüller’s Alea Matt range features bright yellow fronts, designed
promote cooking, laughing and playing together.

A SOPHISTICATED LONDON PIED-À-TERRE
BY REBECCA HUGHES INTERIORS
This elegant London flat, set within the prestigious Chelsea Barracks development, was designed for a returning client who sought a sophisticated yet welcoming pied-à-terre for her young family’s visits to the city.
The brief was clear: to inject personality and warmth into the apartment while crafting a calm retreat from the bustle of central London.
Rebecca and her team introduced bespoke joinery throughout – not only to discreetly house mechanical elements such as air conditioning and integrated televisions, but also to maximise storage and bring architectural interest to each room. A refined, contemporary palette was chosen with her son in mind, striking a balance between clean minimalism and a warm, familyfriendly atmosphere.
One of the standout spaces is the open-plan living area. Originally long and narrow, they carefully zoned it to create distinct kitchen, dining, and living areas. An antique mirror wall anchors the space, adding both depth and a touch of timeless character.
Art plays a pivotal role in the design narrative. The client’s playful and vibrant collection – featuring works from Rise Art and Cricket Fine Art – inspired bold accents and nuanced tones throughout the flat. Materiality and craftsmanship were also key.
Rebecca Hughes Interiors collaborated with a curated list of British and international suppliers, including de Le Cuona, Hector Finch, Turnell & Gigon, Robert Stephenson Rugs, Schumacher, and GP & J Baker. Much of the furniture, from the dining table to the cabinetry and sofa, was
designed in-house, ensuring each piece was tailored specifically to the proportions and spirit of the apartment.
With a global portfolio of projects spanning sumptuous country estates, vibrant contemporary townhouses, and sophisticated commercial spaces including boutiques and hotels, Rebecca Hughes Interiors has recently completed high-profile design commissions throughout the UK, Central Europe, India, and Malaysia.

THE ART OF ATMOSPHERE: THE POETIC WALLPAPER DESIGNS OF JULIA CLARE INTERIORS
From cloud-soft washes to mineral-rich patinas, Julia’s wallcoverings bring poetry to interior design.
In the world of high design, where the balance between timeless elegance and contemporary relevance is rare, Julia Clare Interiors has quietly, but confidently, carved a niche. Her wallpaper collections— equal parts art and atmosphere— invite the eye to linger and the mind to wander. These are not mere decorative surfaces; they are immersive experiences.
Founded by Scottish designer and Glasgow School of Art graduate, Julia Sagias, the studio draws deeply for inspiration, using nature and history as dual muses in the design process. Eclectic collections of celestial sky murals awash in ethereal light, pattern formed from the structural poetry of historic architecture and painterly floral compositions enrich Julia’s artistic repertoire.
The result are designs for wallpaper (and fabric) which feel deeply artistic, mood-enhancing and impeccably refined.
Revered among a discreet circle of interior designers in Glasgow and Edinburgh, like an insider’s secret, Julia’s work remains a rare and coveted discovery. What sets Julia apart is a steadfast commitment to intentional beauty and meaning. Her wallpapers, defined by modern artistry and emotional resonance, infuse their interior projects with depth and a sense of style, place and mood.
Printed in Britian on a variety of sumptuous materials such as silk, grass cloth and vinyl, the expanding possibilities for creative and tactile applications include linen and cotton velvet. Beyond wallpaper, her designs extend gracefully to cushions, throws, tapestries, lighting and framed prints, facilitating a layered and immersive design dialogue within a space.
The wallpaper collections are perfectly suited to both commercial and residential design projects and as the studio expands into
commissions, interior designers and architects collaborate directly with the studio to translate their stylistic preferences into wallpaper—a deeply intimate expression of place and identity.
At the intersection of art and design, the signature aesthetics of Julia Clare Interiors consist of the clever layering of colour, form and texture so that spaces feel tactile, transforming into moodenhancing compositions which carry atmosphere.
Julia Clare Interiors doesn’t just adorn walls; it crafts atmospheres – immersive and poetic. Her wallpapers breath life into interiors, grounding them in narrative, mood and fine art sensibility. The result? Spaces that are not just seen but felt.

REIMAGINING AN INVISIBLE HOUSE: DKT INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO REDESIGNS BRITAIN’S MOST ELUSIVE HOME
In the quiet countryside of Warwickshire, hidden behind a veil of mirrored glass and architectural intrigue, sits one of the UK’s most enigmatic homes: the Invisible House.
Known for its striking exterior and controversial modernist design, the property made headlines across the globe when it was listed for sale in 2023. Now, thanks to an extraordinary redesign by Londonbased DKT Interior Design Studio, the house has been transformed from an architectural spectacle into a home with heart.
While the exterior of the Invisible House has always captured public imagination, a mirrored façade that dissolves into the surrounding landscape, the interiors once told a different story. Stark, cold, and almost clinical in their minimalism, the inside of the home felt more like a gallery than a place to live. It was this dissonance that prompted designers Dhilnawaaz Khan Trotman and Annahita Samiri of DKT to reimagine the property not as an object to look at but as a sanctuary to experience.
“We wanted to turn it from an objectintoahome,” says Dhil. “
A Blank (But Structured) Canvas Annahita recalls their first walkthrough vividly. “Weactually walked into the Ghost House next doorbymistake,”shelaughs.“The InvisibleHousewassoperfectly camouflaged.Butonceinside, itwas clear: the bones were beautiful, but itdidn’tfeellikesomewhereyou could exhale.”
Working with the house’s ultraprecise finishes, geometric rigidity, and minimal layering, DKT adopted a strategy that embraced restraint. “Wecouldn’tbuildup,” Dhil explains. “Everychangehadtobe intentional.Everygesturehadto havepurpose.”
The Entryway:
A Sculptural Welcome
The first clue to the transformation reveals itself in the entryway. Here, Annahita drew inspiration from the way the water danced on the ceiling, reflected from the pond outside. The result is a bespoke timber installation that behaves almost like drapery, fluid, sculptural, and completely unique. No two curves are the same. Hidden cupboards are integrated seamlessly into the design, their function invisible within the artistry.
“It’sthefirsttime, toourknowledge, thatthiskindofjoineryhasbeen done,” Annahita explains. “It’s timber that evokes memories of fabric. It’ssosoftvisuallyyoucanalmost imagineitswaying.” This entryway doesn’t just introduce the home, it establishes the DKT philosophy: innovation with intimacy.
The Design Narrative:
Contrast and Curvature
From there, the house unfolds in a dialogue between structure and softness. Where the architecture is sharp, DKT introduced curve.
Where materials were cold, they layered warmth. Rounded joinery, sculptural furniture, and limewashed walls counterbalance the home’s angular shell, creating an unexpected sense of comfort. In the master bathroom, chocolatetones emulate the richness of Emperador marble, while brushed stainless steel vanities offer a modern counterpoint. “It’salways about contrast,” says Dhil. “Coolness andwarmth, precisionand imperfection, that’swhereahome becomes human.”
Artistic Collaboration and Cultural Resonance
Art became the bridge between the house and its landscape. DKT collaborated with Studio Lawrence on a striking green gradient piece designed to pull the surrounding woodland indoors. Sculptural works from Emily Bourne and Zarefa of Studio London bring depth and texture, while Iranian artist Eisa Jabari created a bespoke piece that departs from his usual aesthetic, inspired entirely by the spirit of the Invisible House.
Layered into the design are custom rugs from La Soie, DKT’s own rug collection, handwoven in Iran using silk and wool. “It wasimportanttometobring insomethingofheritage,” says Annahita. “Theserugsarerootedin traditionbuttranslatedforaspace that feels futuristic. It’s old-world craftsmanshipmeetingmodern design.”
The Kitchen:
Stainless Steel Meets Warmth
One of the most surprising transformations is the kitchen. Previously stark and uninviting, it is now a study in balance. Stainless steel cabinetry is paired with warm, veined stone, while slimline wine racks flank the cooking area like sculptural columns. Custom lighting softens the edges, turning what was once a clinical space into a room with soul. “It’saplace togathernow,” Dhil says. “It’s still architectural, but it has life.”
Bathrooms:
Tranquillity by Design
In the bathrooms, serenity reigns. Curved microcement walls, softly backlit mirrors, and monolithic stone basins create a quiet, retreat-like atmosphere. Glass brick partitions diffuse light while maintaining privacy, adding a subtle texture that keeps the minimalism warm rather than sterile. “Theseroomsweredesigned asexhalespaces,” Annahita explains. “They’rerestrained, butin thatrestraint, youfindcalm.”
Dressing Rooms and Personal Spaces
Beyond the shared areas, DKT crafted deeply personal spaces, including a dressing room that feels more like a gallery than a closet. Sleek, illuminated shelving showcases an extraordinary collection of sneakers and luxury accessories, while warm timber, smoked glass, and precision lighting elevate it from storage to statement. “It’s about ritual,” says Dhil. “Eventhemostprivate spacesdeservebeauty.”
Lessons in Ambition
The project was not without its challenges. “We discovered there was no insulation in the walls,” says Dhil. “It was almost like bone
without muscle.” DKT took the bold decision to replaster much of the structure, reinforcing it from within to ensure longevity.
The DKT Signature The Invisible House is now unmistakably a DKT project. Curvature tempers rigidity, texture offsets coolness, and every space has a purpose. “It’saboutcreating homesthatletyoubreathe,” says
What was once Britain’s most elusive house has been brought into focus. Not as an object, but as a home.
COLLABORATING IN COMFORT: TAMARISK AND THE DESIGNER’S TOUCH
Tailored for Elegance: Inside the World of Tamarisk
As interior designers continue to seek out suppliers who offer not only exceptional craftsmanship but also the flexibility to realise bespoke visions, Tamarisk stands out as a quiet leader in British furniture manufacturing. Based in Long Eaton, the company has spent more than three decades building its reputation on refined aesthetics, luxurious comfort, and trade-first service.
Made to Order, Made for Designers
Each piece from Tamarisk is benchmade to order, allowing for an impressive level of customisation. Designers can specify their own fabrics (COM), choose from a wide range of wood finishes and leg styles, and tailor dimensions to suit a particular space. Many of the brand’s ranges also offer modular or corner configurations, opening up further possibilities for residential projects of exact requirements.
Design in Practice: JH Designs
This highly flexible approach has earned Tamarisk a loyal following among design professionals, including Jane and Helen of Cotswolds-based JH Designs. Their recent Gloucestershire country home project (pictured) showcases a number of Tamarisk pieces as central features -elegant yet supremely comfortable.
As the landscape of luxury design continues to evolve, Tamarisk remains rooted in a belief that comfort is the truest form of luxury
- a philosophy that informs every stitch, seam, and silhouette.
A New Chapter in Creative Direction
In a move that signals continued evolution, Tamarisk has recently appointed Suzanne O’Flynn as its new Design Director. Well-regarded within the interiors industry, O’Flynn brings a fresh perspective to the brand’s creative direction.
Alongside developing new furniture models, she is curating an entirely new fabric collection set to launch this autumn. Highlights include exclusive Italian-milled velvets - long associated with the Tamarisk name -as well as soft linens and a palette of versatile, timeless patterns.
See It First at Long Point Designers attending Long Point (15–17 September, Long Eaton) will have the opportunity to preview this new collection firsthand. SOLVING THE ‘POTHOLE PROBLEM’ OF FLOORING
Every winter the pothole problem sinks to new depths.
But it’s no joke: potholes affect all of us, in our business and personal lives.
Our roads are peppered with more and more potholes – and there’s even a National Pothole Day on January 15th.
37,000 miles – that’s one in six local roads in England and Wales –desperately need an upgrade before they become dangerous. One third are inadequate and only 51% are in good order. Those are the shocking findings of the 2023 report by the Asphalt Industry Alliance.
Plus, the backlog repair cost has jumped 11% from 2022, to a new high of £14 billion –estimated to take a decade to complete.
Despite being designed for vehicles, traffic is one of the causes. Because it exacerbates the problem of rain, snow, frost and salt. If not fixed straightaway, a small crack can expand into 10cm deep, 1m wide hole. For your tyres it’s murder.
CLAIM THE COMPENSATION YOU DESERVE
If your tyre gets a blow out, you could claim compensation. It won’t stop you cursing or heaving on the wheel wrench to get back on the road. But it could take the edge off – exactly what you want the road maintenance repairers to do.
The government website states that to claim compensation, you need to tell whoever is in charge of the road what the damage was,
why you think they’re responsible, the specific location – the nearest marker post or feature are handy here – and the date/ time the damage happened.
It’s not always your local council. In England, if it’s an A-road or motorway, it’s probably Highways England. But for a London red route, you contact Transport for London.
Be quick: you have to get there before it’s been noted and ringed: they spray a white ring around it.
THE SIZE OF THE PROBLEM
Over 2 million roads – even brand new roads – are dug up every year by private gas, electricity, water and telecom companies. Anecdotally, people often believe that these utility repairs are not always up to the required normal standard.
In the UK, we usually have more potholes than our continental cousins, due to higher traffic loads; higher density of buried utilities and higher numbers of freeze-thaw cycles as our temperature tends to be above freezing with frequent dips below.
THE POT HOLE PROBLEM IN FLOORING
The pothole problem is similar to the flooring problem found by interior designers, architects, retailers and the furniture and
flooring trades. Heavy furniture, stiletto heels and chairs scraped back and forth can severely damage flooring.
Fortunately, Stroolmount have a range of flooring protection products that help prevent the damage in the first place: the secret is cushioning.
Proven Stroolmount solutions include Furni-glides, interchangeable Quickclick Glides and Self-adhesive Felt – from as little as 1p per piece. And if the worst happens, family firm Stroolmount also have Flooring and Furniture Repair Kits.
Take a look and stop the pot holes in your flooring.
SCULPTED SPACES: THE ART OF THE LIVED-IN HOME
Comment from Simon Mayhew, Founder & Interior Designer, Txtured
This interior brings together contemporary refinement with tactile warmth, showing how today’s most compelling design trends can be translated into a home that feels both elegant and lived-in.
KITCHEN / DINING
The open-plan kitchen demonstrates the growing trend of layering contrasting textures to create depth. Here, the blend of matte white cabinetry with light wood units avoids the sterility often associated with modern kitchens. The crisp white provides a stream-
lined, gallery-like freshness, while the natural grain of the timber adds warmth, tactility, and a subtle organic irregularity. This approach reflects the current desire to make kitchens feel less clinical and more connected to nature - part of the wider biophilic movement in interiors.
The beige curtain divider is another highly relevant feature. Flexible zoning solutions are increasingly in demand as homes serve multiple functions. Instead of rigid walls, soft fabric partitions bring versatility while also adding layered texture. The fabric introduces movement, softness, and acoustic comfort, enhancing the sensory quality of the space.
In terms of styling, bold black accents - from hardware to decorative objects - continue to trend as grounding devices within
neutral schemes. The oversized sculptural vase with pampas grass is especially on point: dried botanicals remain popular not only for their sustainability but also for the drama and textural contrast they bring.
The dining space centres around a round table, which is a deliberate design choice rooted in current thinking about conviviality. Circular dining setups are being embraced for their ability to soften rectilinear architecture and promote natural conversation flow. The adjoining glass doorway with its arched frame injects a subtle classical reference - a trend we’re seeing where cleanlined modernism is tempered with timeless architectural detailing to prevent interiors from feeling overly stark.
LIVING AREA
The living space continues this dialogue between warmth, form, and materiality. The feature wall clad in wooden panelling is an exemplary use of texture as a backdrop. It frames the TV but also softens its technological presence by embedding it within a tactile, organic surface. Wood panelling, once considered dated, has seen a contemporary revival, prized for its ability to add rhythm, acoustic benefit, and a natural, cocooning quality to interiors.
Furniture selections underscore the importance of character
pieces. The Garret Arm-chair from Soho Home exemplifies this: its sculptural, rounded form makes it a statement object while its geometric upholstery adds a layer of pattern play. The brass swivel base taps into the ongoing appreciation of metallics, bringing subtle glamour without overpowering the neutral palette.
At the centre, the Tisbury Coffee Table is both functional and artistic. The cylindrical marble base and richly veined top highlight the trend for sculptural furniture that doubles as art. Each piece, shaped by natural stone variation, reinforces the desire for indi-viduality and one-off design statements.
The styling—stacked books and minimal accessories - supports the “curated but lived-in” aesthetic, which is increasingly replacing over-styled show-home looks.
CONCLUSION
Altogether, the project exemplifies the key design currents of now: layered texture, flexible zoning, the interplay of organic and geometric forms, and investment in unique, sculptural statement pieces. It achieves a sophisticated balance—open yet intimate, refined yet inviting—perfectly aligned with contemporary living.
WIN THE WAR ON THE FLOOR
Whatever type of flooring you have – wood, laminate etc. – it needs protecting. The fact is that when furniture and flooring meet, there Is friction and can be damage. So, let’s look at what you can do to cushion the blow.
PROTECTION IN 5 WAYS BEFORE PROBLEMS HAPPEN:
Most protection solutions protect you in 5 ways:
1: Protects flooring from the impact of furniture
2: Protects furniture joints from being fatally weakened
3: Protects ears from noise
4: Protects from back pain as furniture slides easier
5. Protects from customer complaints and insurance claims
WHAT PROTECTION DO I NEED?
For solid wood, laminates and hard tiled flooring: Use self-adhesive felt or glides such as QuickClick.
For carpet, rugs and vinyl flooring: use glides such as Furni-glides or QuickClick Glides.
SELF-ADHESIVE FELT
Why buy? It’s the cheapest option. On a roll from Stroolmount, for example, they can cost as little as 1p each.
It’s a short-term solution: if you want a longer-term solution, choose glides such as QuickClick.
Flooring type: Use on all solid wood, laminates, tiles and vinyl. Probably best on furniture that’s not moved often.
Fit it in seconds: Just peel back the cover and stick on the furniture feet. Allow it to set firmly for 24 hours.
Sizes: Available in a variety of sizes and chapes from circles and oblongs to L-shapes up to 75mm
Ideal type of furniture: Coffee tables, lamp tables, bedside tables, dining tables, storage cabinets, desks, workstations, filing cabinets
Top tip 1: check for grit on the feet before you add the felt so it’s not scratched along your floor.
Top tip 2: Beware of companies skimping on thickness. You need a minimum of 5mm thickness to cushion flooring from furniture.
Top tip 3: Beware of using selfadhesive felt with heated floors: the glue doesn’t stick properly, so extra care needs to be taken. With metal leg furniture, self-adhesive felt may be the only protection option, so it’s always best to let customers know that they need to keep an eye out for any movement. Advise them to replace them immediately if they become unstuck as it’s cheaper to do this than replace the whole floor.
QUICKCLICK GLIDES
Why buy? This is an award-winning durable, longer-term 4-in-1 protective solution. The interchangeable glides make it easy if you want any furniture to be on a different floor type: just swap over to that type of glide to protect that flooring.
Flooring types: Quickclick works on all floor types. It has 1 screw-in base and 5 interchangeable easy-to-click in glides for 1) carpet, 2) wood floors, 3) laminate floors. 4) tiled floors. 5) anti-slip glide.
Fitting: You just screw in the base cup into the foot and then click in the type of glide you want. To swap over glides, just click out the old type and click in the new one.
Sizes: available from 17-50mm diameters.
Ideal type of furniture: tables, chairs, sofas, lounge chairs, beds. Ideal to cushion and quieten dining chairs that get frequently scraped back and forth: reducing noise by up to 75%.
Top Tip: fix two felt glides onto the back legs of a sofa and two anti-slip on the front. This keeps it in place and makes it easier to clean: you’ve no need to lift up the whole thing, just lift the front of the sofa and slide it forward.

Exclusive to Stroolmount
Carpet, wood, laminate or tiles: Quickclick gives long-term protection for them all. So when moving any furniture to a room with different flooring, just click in a protection glide for that floor type.
Quickclick protects your flooring

Quickclick protects your furniture
It minimises wear and tear, plus reduces stress on your chair and table legs.
Quickclick protects your ears
Noise is reduced up to 75%. So your dinner party needn’t be interrupted by unbearable screeching – or at least by the chairs!

HYPNOS BRINGS THE COMFORT TO THE LAKE COMO VIBES OF LANGDALE CHASE HOTEL
Woolsleeper contract mattresses from Hypnos have been chosen by Thwaites for the recently refurbished Langdale Chase Hotel.
Standing on the shores of Lake Windermere, Langdale Chase Hotel offers a rare blend of historic charm, peaceful views, and thoughtful luxury. Owned by Thwaites, a family-run hospitality company with a collection of hotels and inns across England, this lakeside sanctuary is rooted in laidback luxury, craftsmanship and character. In 2024 it was ranked the third best place to stay in the UK by The Times and Sunday Times, as well as being named the North Hotel of the Year and Countryside Hotel of the Year.
In 2023, Thwaites underwent a careful restoration of this iconic lakeside property that dates back to 1890. Putting stewardship at the heart of every design decision has seen the hotel become one of the best in the country, bringing together Victorian elegance and modern comforts, all while honouring the natural beauty that surrounds it. In a collaboration that brings together two family-run British businesses, Thwaites chose handcrafted Hypnos mattresses not only because of exceptional comfort and support, but also because of a shared eye for detail and a love of heritage.

Ashby Wall Light
Kingston Pendant
The Augustine Pendant is an opulent chandelier that draws on the grandeur of Venetian palazzos, with a ceiling rose, finial and coups in artisan gold-flecked hand-blown glass, complemented by fluted antique brass arms. The Kingston Pendant offers a refined interpretation of the Georgian lantern, handcrafted entirely from antique brass, with a hexagonal frame, fluted supports, and elegant finials – showcasing the brand’s love of intentional details.
Nature plays a central role in the Audelia and Lumiera pendants, where botanical artistry meets expert metalwork. Each leaf and stem are individually hand-formed in antique brass or gold-flecked glass, capturing the delicate veining and organic curves of Beech or Elm leaves. Suspended from antique brass chains, they create an inviting, dappled glow.
For wall lighting, the Beau takes cues from Art Deco elegance, with curved opal glass panels framed in antique brass for a diffused, luminous glow – perfect for hallways, dressing areas, or intimate spaces. The Highgate wall light reinterprets the silhouette of a Grecian torch in solid antique brass, paired with a pure silk shade for a softened finish.
Completing the range, table lamps such as the Montgomery – with its hand-fired Snowflake crackle ceramic base, the elongated Cadogan in Taupe Snowflake crackle, and the solid antique brass Highgate Table Lamp combine tactile materials, sculptural form, and heritage-inspired profiles. Each is finished with a pure silk shade, creating a warm, ambient light and a sense of balance in both formal and relaxed settings.
CONTEMPORARY
The Contemporary additions focus on sculptural simplicity, architectural form, and a refined play of materials. Each design is created to work as both a statement piece and a functional element within a layered interior scheme.
The Delta Pendant captures contemporary sophistication with a bold yet softened silhouette. A bronze ceiling rose supports textured leather straps that suspend domed alabaster cups, casting a gentle upward glow. Its combination of tactile materials and curved forms makes it equally suited to dining spaces, kitchen islands, or entryways.
The Rover Pendant reimagines the classic pendant through a modern lens, with a silk shade trimmed in tonal faux leather and suspended by leather straps from a bronze ceiling rose. Frosted diffusers above and below create a warm, even light, bringing sculptural presence and softness to both kitchens and dining areas.
New wall lights include the Larkin, which hints at Art Deco elegance through its curved antique brass

arm and silk shade with tonal faux leather trim, casting a warm, diffused light ideal for hallways, studies, or bedrooms. The Hicks wall light is hand-carved from solid alabaster, wrapping around a bronze core to mimic the softness of a textile shade while introducing natural texture and character. Both are designed for versatility, with the Hicks also available in silk and antique brass finishes.
Table lighting expands with the marble Oaklyn and Hanson lamps. The Oaklyn features a tapered marble column in either Ivory or Storm marble, contrasted by a bronze neck and base, while the Hanson draws on the elegant proportions of Grecian urns,
sculpted in solid marble, and grounded with a flared bronze base. Both are topped with silk shades trimmed in tonal faux leather, with frosted diffusers for a soft, ambient light.
The Malik table lamp combines individually hand-blown ombre glass discs in Ivory or Bronze with antique brass detailing, creating a one-of-a-kind sculptural form. The Leon Desk Lamp pairs a leatherwrapped bronze body with an arched arm and silk shade, featuring a discreet tap-touch control for practical elegance in workspaces.
Together, these Contemporary designs celebrate Laura Hammett Living’s ethos of balancing form, function, and material richness – delivering lighting that is as enduring as it is distinctive.

A renewed interest in British craftsmanship and manufacturing
There is an increasing focus on British craftsmanship, as we increasingly prioritise home-grown brands that manufacture their products in the UK and from locally sourced materials. Not only is this better for the planet, but it keeps true British craftsmanship alive.
Lizzie Mosley, Creative Director at Hug Rug, the inventors of the original washable rug, comments: “We’redefinitelyseeingagrowing demandforBritishmanufacturing. Products made in the UK are synonymouswithquality-when youbuylocallycraftedproducts, youcanbeconfidentthatit’sbeen

BOLDSTONE SCULPTURE
Boldstone Sculpture designs and makes original art working with interior and garden designers, architects, property developers and private clients. We work on large and small scale projects including individually created commissions.
Inspiration for our artworks comes from observation of pattern in nature and interpretation of pattern interacting with light, shadow, colour, line, form and texture. Themes are developed
using differing mediums and materials expressed in sculpture with stone and metal effects. Not all our designs are available on our website for privacy and copyright reasons.
Boldstone’s wall sculptures and artworks are adaptable to different settings, whether that be urban loft, offices, residential spaces, hotel lobby and spa or gardens.
We collaborate closely with clients to create bespoke wall sculptures tailored to specific spaces, themes or concepts. For signature pieces
such as corporate headquarters or sculptures for luxury residences we create drawings, samples and storyboards to help work with you to realise your idea.
If you are interested in a private viewing or presentation and wish to discuss a specific project or require more information please email us at info@boldstone.co.uk to start the conversation.
We have been privileged to work with many clients at all scales over the years and enjoy participating in creating artworks suitable for public and private spaces, gardens and interiors.
Our studios are based just outside Bath in Somerset.

WHERE HERITAGE MEETS CONTEMPORARY LIVING
For over 30 years, The Sash Window Workshop has been bringing new life to some of London and the South’s most beautiful homes, creating bespoke timber windows and doors that look as if they’ve always belonged.
Every project begins with a personal visit from one of their experienced surveyors –a chance to explore your vision, study the property’s character, and discuss design details. From there, the magic moves to their Berkshire workshop, where each piece is handcrafted using time-honoured joinery skills, enhanced with subtle
modern performance upgrades such as energy-efficient double glazing and improved security.
A recent commission for a country house in Hampshire perfectly illustrates their approach. The original sash windows were beyond repair, yet their replacements needed to meet strict conservation requirements. The solution: beautifully slender double-glazed sashes, virtually indistinguishable from the originals, fitted with meticulous precision by the company’s own installation team.
Whether it’s a townhouse in a bustling city or a country retreat, The Sash Window Workshop’s in-house control of every stage – design, manufacture, and installation – ensures a flawless result and a stress-free experience. Their range includes traditional sash and casement windows, elegant entrance and French doors, and discreet secondary glazing – all tailored to protect the property’s integrity while enhancing comfort and efficiency.
For homeowners who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and the perfect balance between heritage and modern living, The Sash Window Workshop offers more than windows and doors – they create enduring features that elevate the entire home.

For families, the reassurance offered by Osmo is a significant advantage. The finish is salivaresistant and sweatproof, making it perfectly suitable for children’s toys. This dedication to safety and non-toxic ingredients reflects Osmo’s commitment to fostering healthier living environments.
Importantly, the finish is microporous and breathable, a characteristic that distinguishes it from traditional varnishes. This unique quality allows the wood to naturally expand and contract with changes in humidity, preventing cracking, peeling, or flaking over time. This not only guarantees a longerlasting finish but also simplifies maintenance. For minor scuffs or worn areas, no sanding is required for spot repairs or future applications; a simple re-application of the finish is sufficient to refresh the surface, saving time, effort, and the hassle of extensive refinishing projects.
Osmo Wood Wax Finish is more than just a coating; it represents a complete wood care system. It combines a beautiful, customizable aesthetic with a level of durability and ease of maintenance that is hard to surpass. For anyone seeking a single, dependable product that delivers all-around, hardwearing, and safe protection for every wooden surface in their home, Osmo Wood Wax Finish is the ultimate and wise choice.
