Hello all,
Jocular July to you!!Alas, we now find ourselves in the “dog days of summer.” This term comes from ancient Greek and Roman beliefs about the star Sirius, also known as the “Dog Star.” This period, typically, from July 3 toAugust 11, was associated with intense heat because Sirius rises and sets with the sun during this time. Thank goodness we live in SoCal in the 21st century and not ancient Greece or Rome! I don’t even want to imagine this time of the year without air conditioning. YIKES!!!
July always revives memories that reflect family vacations, surfing the beaches between Seal Beach and San Onofre, and the freedom my Schwinn Stingray provided on those school free days. As time has marched on it’s come to be more about family, community, and friendships. I suppose that’s a large part of why I enjoy our Annual July 4th Celebration here in the park so much. Over the years the 4th has been a wonderful opportunity to see familiar faces and a chance to greet so many of the new additions to our little neck of the woods. I highly recommend coming out to say hi to those you know and those you’ll get to know.
I was thrilled to see so many folks came out for the “Party by the Lake” potluck dinner. Thank you, Bev, Jodi, and Dawn for a great evening. I’m even more thrilled that y’all decided to come to dinner instead of breaking out the skateboards on “Go Skateboarding Day.” July’s full moon happens on the 10th and is the “Buck Moon”. It’s called the Buck Moon because the antlers of male deer (bucks) are in full-growth mode at this time.
Your Social Club is breaking from tradition this year by not going on hiatus for July andAugust. The July general meeting will be on the 8th, and theAugust meeting will be on the 12th . I hope to see as many of you as possible those nights. Staying connected in this world seems even more important lately than ever before.Additionally, the Social Club’sAnnual Ice Cream Social that was part of our weekly potluck, will be a separate event on Saturday,August 16th with a start time to be determined. Keep an eye on Facebook, email, theAugust newsletter, the mailbox marquis,’the clubhouse bulletin board, and the coconut telegraph for updates.
As always, I look forward to seeing you all soon,
Dan Miller

Davina Vosgien, Park Manager, had hip replacement surgery and was home the same day. She’s been going to physical therapy, doing exercises at home, and resting. While she’s technically off work, she’s remained in the loop and involved. We can’t wait to see her big smile back in the office and out in the community in the cart!
Dan Miller has recovered, and he hopes to be zipping around on his bike in early July. In fact, if he’s not at the clubhouse, you’ll find him in the garage tinkering away.
Living in a 55+ community means we always have a handful of residents experiencing moderate to severe health challenges, and we are aware of a few individuals who need our good thoughts and prayers. However, we respect their wish to keep their matters private. If your neighbor is ill, we encourage you and your fellow neighbors to check on them. Leaving a “Get Well/Thinking About You” note on a doorstep can certainly brighten a person’s a day!

Message from Davina & Wayne – July 2025
We hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the Social Club’s Annual 4th of July Celebration.
What a great community! Thank you all for your support during my recovery. Wayne and I are so happy and proud to be a part of Lake Park Santa Ana North. I also want to extend my sincerest appreciation for your patience during my time away from the office.
Once I return to the office full time, we will be resuming the homesite inspections. If we have not visited your homesite, please review the Community Guidelines to help reduce any concerns.
During the last Social Club’s June General Meeting, Robbie Lamondy presented an informative tutorial on about our front gate. If you missed the meeting, I encourage you to review the newsletter insert in this month’s newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Did you know monthly lease payments can be made online? Residents have two options for online payments:
- The first option is to pay with a debit card that draws directly from your bank account. Note, there is a service fee of $3.50 per payment.
- The second option is to pay via a traditional credit card. Note, this option is available, but we do not recommend it since there is a 10% service fee.
If you wish to have the option to pay online, you must set up the process with the office before you can make your first payment. If you have any questions, please contact Davina.
We continue to be thankful for the privilege of managing what we believe is the prettiest and most caring Lake Park community.
Wayne & Davina

The Second Annual Lake Park 4th of July PET Show
Last year, our illustrious Dog Show Ringmaster, Ken Burke, upgraded the Annual Dog Show to The Annual 4th of July Lake Park Pet Show. Why, Ken asked himself, do dogs get to have all the fun on the 4th of July? Don’t other animals have the right to win prizes? The change allowed and encouraged residents to bring and showcase their cherished pet—dog, cat, snake, guinea pig, parrot, gerbil, squirrel, or cute little rat. A compromise for pets and parents was started! Yes, Ken gave everyone an opportunity! The Second Annual Lake Park 4th of July PET Show allows ALL animals to compete in a friendly way to win the titles of:
⚫ Cutest Small Pet
⚫ Under 20 Pounds
⚫ Cutest Large Pet
⚫ Over 20 Pounds
⚫ Best Owner/Pet Lookalike
⚫ Either look alike or dressed alike.
⚫ Yankee Doodle Pet
⚫ The Most Patriotic/Best Dressed Animal
⚫ Best Trick
⚫ This is the easiest contest to win since very few of us teach our pets to do fancy tricks.
⚫ Cutest Pet Show Host
⚫ For those of you who think any of the categories are rigged, since it is extremely obvious my dog, Buffy (see photo at the top), is the Cutest Small Animal. However, rest assured, Buffy will not be competing in any of the categories. That wouldn’t be fair. However, the Cutest Pet Show Host contest is completely rigged.
10:30 a.m. Pet Show Registration Opens on the West side of the Clubhouse.
11:15 a.m. The 2nd Annual Lake Park 4th of July Pet Show Starts.
There will be a panel of impartial and unpaid judges, fun prizes, a lot of laughter, and terrific photo opportunities.

Because they host the event annually, it has been decided that the social club will not host future shredding events, and that will be a tremendous saving. Dan also mentioned Lynn has connected with Fairhaven management to get timely information to promote their events. Candi Hyter said they had an event last weekend “plant your pot” and it was fun. Fairhaven provided pots, paint, and plants Currently, Fairhaven is looking for volunteers to place flags on graves ahead of Memorial Day. A flag will be placed at each Veteran’s grave. raves.

No math is required to solve a sudoku. You only need logic and patience.
Simply make sure that each 3x3 square region has only one instance of the numbers 1-9. Similarly, each number can only
appear once in a column or row in the larger grid. The difficulty on this puzzle is easy.

The Lighter Side
Then and now
A tour guide was showing a tourist around Washington, D. C. The guide pointed out the place where George Washington supposedly threw a dollar across the Potomac River. "That's impossible," said the tourist. "No one could throw a coin that far!"
"You have to remember," answered the guide. "A dollar went a lot farther in those days."
Water Formula
Little Johnny's teacher asks, "What is the chemical formula for water?"
Little Johnny replies, "H-I-J-K-L-MN-O!!"
The teacher, puzzled, asks, "What on Earth are you talking about?"
Little Johnny replies, "Yesterday you said it was H to O!"
Fast Drinker
A man goes into a bar and seats himself on a stool. The bartender looks at him and says, "What'll it be buddy?"
The man says, "Set me up with seven whiskey shots and make them doubles." The bartender does this and watches the man slug one down, then the next, then the next, and so on until all seven are gone almost as quickly as they were served. Staring in disbelief, the bartender asks why he's doing all this drinking.
"You'd drink them this fast too if you had what I have."
