Over the past years the art field has become increasingly self-referential. Social movements such as Black Lives Matter, #MeToo and queer rights activists, as well as the pandemic have exposed weak spots and forced art professionals and art-presenting institutions to critically scrutinize and reinterpret their practice. As we move towards a ‘new normal’, so does the art world, and in this new normal marginalized voices appear louder than ever before. By rethinking once essential categories like sexuality and identity, the body and its relationships, biological determinism, biopolitics, material assemblages and allegiances, we speculate about queer, BIPOC futures in art.

THEME NIGHTS: FUTURE VOICES Zaterdag 2 april 16.00 uur Stationskwartier

This evening we explore the questions: how do queer methodologies and perspectives shed light on the world of media art and practices? What knowledge and input from queer theory, antiracism and decolonization has been overlooked until now? What can we learn from each other? This evening will be presented in collaboration with The Pink Cube (NL), a platform dedicated to the visibility and appreciation of queer art and culture, moderated by board-member Belinda Hak.
