NOTATION •

Colors are used in the score in order to represent the different timbres (spectral states) obtained through the use of so-called “alternative” fingerings o Each color corresponds to a specific timbral category o Each fingering change is depicted in the score with a change of color o The different fingerings to be used are detailed throughout the piece

Besides this aspect, other non-conventional signs are explained directly in the score, inside parentheses

General remarks for players: •

In some cases, fingering changes can cause microtonal pitch modifications (of around 1/8 of a tone or less); however, such modifications are not written in the score so as not to furtherly overload it with information o Players must not try to “compensate” (to “correct”) such microtonal pitch changes; the embouchure must favour the fullness of the timbre of each fingering, without privileging the maintenance of a fixed pitch

•

Certain fingerings which are very “closed” obstruct the flow of air in a very marked way and therefore cause a lowering of the volume of sound; in such cases, the written dynamic corresponds to the intensity of the air blown by the player and not to the resulting volume of sound
