Amanda

The Nigerian-born fashion designer known for blending traditional Ankara fabrics with modern, elegant styles. She showcased her designs at Liverpool Fashion Week, bringing African-inspired fashion to a global audience. Her work celebrates culture, confidence, and class — reflecting her passion for creating timeless pieces for women everywhere.

How did you get into fashion designing?

I started sewing when I was a little girl. My mum was a fashion designer, so I grew up watching her work with fabrics and make beautiful clothes. That’s really where my love for fashion began

— it’s something that’s been part of me since childhood.

What inspires your designs? I’m inspired by everyday women

— their confidence, culture, and beauty. I also take a lot of ideas from Nigerian traditions and mix them with modern styles.

I like creating clothes that connect both worlds. Tell us about the fabrics you use.

I mostly work with Ankara fabric because it’s full of life and colour. It tells a story and feels close to home. For my next collection, I’m using satin and flowered chiffon I want something softer, more elegant, and modern.

Describe your collection at Liverpool Fashion Week. My collection was a mix of traditional Nigerian styles and modern cuts. I wanted to show how African fashion can be classy and wearable anywhere. The colours were bold, and each piece had its own story. What was your experience of Liverpool Fashion Week? It was a big milestone in my career. It gave me the confidence to push further and aim for more international

showcases in the coming year.

The energy, the people, the support — it was all so inspiring. It made me want to do even more. What are your plans for the next 12 months with your brand?

I’m working on growing my brand and building a stronger presence in the fashion industry. I want to release my new collection and reach more customers, both locally and abroad. I also plan to learn more and keep improving my craft. Who would you like to collaborate with ?

I’d love to work with other designers who blend culture and modern fashion. I believe teamwork brings fresh ideas and new creativity. Where can people buy your designs?

Right now, people can order through my social media pages or contact me directly. I’m also working on setting up a website soon, so it’ll be easier for customers everywhere to shop.

Do you think people are moving away from fast fashion?

Yes, I think so. More people now want quality and meaning in what they wear. They like clothes that last and have a story — not just something trendy for a week. What do you want women to feel like when they slip into your clothes? I ! want women to feel beautiful, confident, and proud — both of themselves . My designs are meant to make you stand tall and feel special.

Two hundred of the city’s finest businesses and entrepreneurs came together last month to celebrate the annual Liverpool Lifestyle Awards. Hosted by the fabulously funny and very entertaining Alyssa Van Delle, the event was, as always, the most talked about networking party of the year. Special thanks to our sponsor, Derma Cosmedic Aesthetic & Training on Castle Street and The Liner Hotel for being an exemplary host venue as always. The food was gorgeous, the atmosphere was electric and we can’t wait to do it again next year. This year we had 11,000 public votes and reached over 65,000 online with engaged posts.
