Stay safe from electricity disasters this festive season
Don’t order a super-cheap cable
Many cheap cables fall below the safety requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations Act 2016, and their inability to connect as well as regular cables make them more likely to overheat if used for a long period of time, or even catch fire. To check if your charger meets regulations, check that there is at least 9.5 mm between the edge of the pins and the edge of the charger. If the distance is less, there is a risk of electric shock when plugging in and unplugging the charger from a socket. Also, check for any manufacturer’s brand name or logo, or a CE mark.
Don’t overload your sockets
Most regular twin plug sockets can only take a maximum of 3000 watts combined, and using two appliances which require more than this can lead to burn out.
Don’t use water near wires
Many people put lights on a real Christmas tree that then needs watering. As a result, the potential for water spills or leaks from your Christmas tree is high, which can be dangerous if in contact with electricity, potentially causing electrocutions, shocks, or even fires. Always switch lights off when watering your tree, check there are no leaks around trailing wires, and mop up any spillages.
Unplug when not in use
Especially overnight. When left in for too long, Christmas tree lights can overheat and occasionally start fires.
Use the right extension leads
While outdoor extension leads are useful, make sure to use heavy-duty waterproof leads, as they can withstand moisture, and are less likely to cause electric shocks. Alternatively, waterproof enclosures for existing extension leads are another effective option.

Fashion Designer
What first spark your interest in fashion design? It began in 2012 when I simply wanted to make my own clothes something unique and personal that reflected my style. What started as a desire for self-expression quickly grew into a deeper passion. By 2013, I remember telling someone that I wanted to run a fashion house that could create beautiful pieces within 24 hours. That vision stayed with me, and in 2020, it became a reality when I launched my ready-to-wear fashion business.
How would you describe your design aesthetic? It is centered around creating easy, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish pieces for women. I love playing with color combinations that complement each other beautifully, adding vibrance and personality to every look My designs are versatile tailored to suit women between the ages of 20 to 60 who appreciate simplicity, elegance, and comfort without compromising on style.
Where do you get inspiration from? I draw most of my inspiration from my personal journey I’ve always loved simple, easy-towear pieces, and I know there are many women like me who appreciate comfort and style combined. My designs reflect that love for simplicity — effortless yet chic. When it comes to colors, I enjoy experimenting with combinations that complement and elevate each other, creating looks that feel fresh, confident, and timeless
Walk us through your creative process. It starts with inspiration — often from my personal experiences, observing everyday life, and thinking about what women need in their wardrobes. I begin by sketching ideas and experimenting with color combinations that I know will complement each other Once the design feels right on paper, I select fabrics that are comfortable, versatile, and bring the design to life. From there, I move to pattern making and construction, carefully overseeing every detail to ensure the final piece is both stylish and wearable. Throughout the process, I stay focused on simplicity, elegance, and practicality, making sure each design resonates with the women I create for
What was your breakthrough moment in fashion? In 2020, I officially launched my ready-to-wear fashion brand — a dream I had spoken about as far back as 2013. Seeing that vision come to life was truly a defining moment. It proved to me that patience, consistency, and belief in your dreams can make anything possible. That milestone not only changed my career but also strengthened my purpose — to create beautiful, easy-to-wear pieces for women who value comfort and confidence
What did you look forward to at Liverpool Fashion Week? It was the opportunity to showcase my designs to a wider audience and connect with fellow creatives, fashion enthusiasts, and potential collaborators. It’s a chance to share my vision of easy, stylish, and colorful wear for women while learning from other talented designers. I’m also excited about the energy and inspiration that comes from being part of such a vibrant fashion community — it’s the perfect platform to celebrate creativity and growth.
How do you want women to feel when they wear your clothes? I want them to feel confident, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish. My goal is for women to experience ease in their everyday lives without compromising on elegance or personality. I also hope the colors and simplicity of my pieces bring a sense of joy and selfexpression, making them feel both empowered and beautifully themselves.
What values are important to your brand? I The values most important to my brand are comfort, inclusivity, and quality craftsmanship. I design with women of all ages in mind, ensuring that my pieces are easy to wear, versatile, and made to last. Simplicity and attention to detail are at the heart of everything that I create I made sure that every woman can find something that resonates with her style and lifestyle.

Avoid clogged drains this Christmas
Think before you sink!
Every day foods and drinks, such as gravy, cream, and cream liqueurs, can all clog up our drains and lead to unwelcome blockages.
Items such as gravy, cooking oil, and even Christmas favourite, Baileys, are classified as Fats, Oils, and Greases (FOGs). If poured directly down the sink, they can line drainage pipes and cause blockages as they cool down and solidify. These FOGs are the major culprit of the “fatbergs” that live in our sewers - so it’s not just your own systems that you risk if disposing of risky items in this manner Drink it, don’t sink it - Baileys
Cream liqueur drinks, such as the popular Christmas favourite, Baileys, have a surprisingly short shelf life when opened. For this reason, many of us end up with a half-finished bottle left in the fridge. While it may seem sensible to pour it down the sink before recycling the bottle, cream liqueurs are classed as FOGs.
Leftover meat fat
pulation admit to pouring FOGs down ut don’t be one of them. The problem g leftover fat down the drain is it will can lead to blockages in your pipes. a plumber on Christmas Day is not easy ms of availability and on the wallet.
