GAYLEFORCE

Cyprus’ first drag queen wears her crown with dazzling might

How did Gayle Force come to life?It was an incredibly long labour - different parts of Gayle were forming for years through performing, playing with costumes and anything that is shiny, finding an excuse to dress up and get attention whenever possible. Then, in 2016 there was a local drag competition, I bit the bullet, and the creature you now know came into full force.

Describe her personality and did you take inspiration from anyone?Gayle is a working class girl with middle class delusions Thinks that she is sipping champagne on a yacht, but it's actually Lambrini on a barge. I'd love to say that she is a character that I have developed over the years, but in all honesty she is just me without a social filter on.

Which comes first, the outfit or the song?

Which comes first, the outfit or the song?

Both! I can see an outfit and get inspired to make a mix, and will be reminded of a quote from a show and a number will be built around that. Or, I can think of a number that I want to do and get the outfit together based on what will help the number most. Then there are 'icon' songs where the costume is essentially decided for you - think Toxic by Britney Spears. You hear that song and immediately think of a flight attendant - costume done!

When everything together just right - The song, choreography, lighting, visuals, stage presence, and ultimately, the audience, all come together in a magical way.

This feels very Sophie's Choice. This changes a lot - all of my costumes and wigs hold memories which become fundamentally tied to the item (and is the reason I still hold onto some drag that I don't actually use any more). That being said, Gayle's go to is big ginger hair and a sequin dress. I do think.

Generally speaking, the face will be on in roughly 90 minutes, but give a drag queen 5 hours, and they will it. I've I've overslept Tips wise, a healthy base of Poly-Filler hides so many sins, and make sure where you are space people can't properly

Tips wise, a healthy base of Poly-Filler hides so many sins, and make sure where you are going is a very dark space so the people can't see properly.

Lipsyncing and acting is an art form - how do you choose the songs?

Lipsyncing and acting is an art form - how do you choose the songs?

Powerful vocals and a song with a lot of variety in it are essential. Song selection as a lip sync artist is incredibly difficult, and absolutely crucial to the success of a number. There's only so many times that you can do a dance break and keep it seeming fresh. For this reason, I pick songs that either have a very strong story going across the number that I can lean into, or a comedy approach that can be explored within.

How does it take choreograph a show?

There are a few things that go into consideration here - nature of the numbers, number of people stage, cast, costumes are being worn to name just a few At Diamonds, we have three or four group numbers per - two numbers to open and close the show, and these tend be the routines that take the longest.

You’re one of the original drag queens on the island, how have you seen the drag scene change over the years?

You’re the original drag the island, you drag change over the years?

This marks my 7th year as a Queen of Protaras, and I think the biggest change that I have seen in drag here in Cyprus, is that there is actually a scene now! In 2018, I knew of two Cypriot queens, and now there is a whole gaggle of them! Drag is growing every single year, is now an entire industry, and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Not only are more people doing it, but more people want to see it too - it's no longer just a niche activity for a small group of people.

Why Are You still Single?

And It’s Not Because You’re Picky

Let’s get one thing straight: being single doesn’t mean you’ve got a checklist longer than a Tesco receipt or that you’re waiting for Mr Darcy to stride out of a lake, shirt dripping. The “picky” label gets thrown at women like confetti at a wedding, but it’s a lazy myth. The real story? Sometimes, it’s not about standards; it’s about the quiet ways we trip ourselves up. Selfsabotage is the uninvited guest at the party, and it’s time we clocked its game

Take the classic “I’m fine on my own” mantra. Independence is brilliant; until it’s a fortress. You’ve built walls so high that even a knight in shining armour would need a crane to get over them It’s not picky to enjoy your own company; it’s sabotage when you’ve convinced yourself no one could possibly fit into your perfectly curated life.

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. Plenty of us have turned self-reliance into a shield, dodging vulnerability like it’s a tax bill Then there’s the ghost of relationships past. You tell yourself you’re over it, but every time a decent bloke texts back, you’re braced for the crash. You might not even notice you’re doing it; pushing him away before he can disappoint you It’s not that you’re fussy; it’s that you’re still hauling yesterday’s baggage, expecting it to unpack itself. Spoiler: it won’t. And don’t get me started on the “I’ll sort myself out first” trap. You’re waiting to lose five pounds, land that promotion, or finally organise your spice rack before you’re “ready” for love Here’s the kicker: there’s no finish line. Life’s a messy, glorious shambles, and waiting for perfection is just procrastination in a fancy dress.

v

So, if you’re single and wondering why, ditch the picky myth. It’s not about rejecting every Tom, Dick, and Harry; it’s about spotting where you’re holding yourself back. Maybe you’re scared to be seen, or maybe you’re addicted to the chase but not the catch Whatever it is, it’s not a flaw; it’s a pattern. And patterns? They can change. You’re not broken; you’re just human. Isn’t that a relief?

Dust pollution in Cyprus at an all

With high dust levels becoming increasingly common in Cyprus, health experts are raising serious concerns about the risks to public health. There is concern over the rising number of respiratory issues linked to frequent exposure to dust.

Cyprus is experiencing more frequent dust phenomena from the Sahara desert, with meteorological data showing increased incidents occurring outside the traditional spring peak period.

High concentrations of dust have been recorded in the atmosphere across Cyprus according to measurements from ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network operated by the Department of Labour Inspection.

A grown adult requires more than 10000 litres of air everyday, breathing approx 20000 times. It is therefore evident that the quality of the breathed air has a paramount impact on health and affects quality of life

How do you know if dust is making you sick?

Dust Allergies. People who have dust allergies are familiar with sneezing but sneezing isn't the only uncomfortable symptom.Dust allergies also give many people a stuffy or runny nose, or cause their eyes to itch or become red and watery.

For relief from dust allergies, non-drowsy antihistamines like cetirizine (Zyrtec), fexofenadine (Allegra), and loratadine (Claritin) are generally recommended. These medications help block histamine, a chemical released by the body in response to allergens, thus reducing allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching, and runny nose.

JUNE IS ALL ABOUT BETTER HEARING.

TheImportanceof Preventionand HearingRestoration

foraHealthyLife.

The Hearing Month is celebrated every year and is the largest global awareness campaign for ear care and the prevention of hearing loss. This month was recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and emphasizes the importance of implementing public health strategies to preventtheseissueson agloballevel.

According to the WHO, over 1.5 billion people worldwide live with some form of hearing loss, while nearly 430 million people live with disablinghearingloss. The majority of these individuals come from low- and middleincome countries, where they often lack access to the necessary services and interventions to addresstheproblem.

Preventive Measures for Healthy Hearing

Early diagnosis and timely intervention can significantly help restore hearing or prevent further damage

Effective strategies include: limit excessive exposure to loud sounds: If you listen to music with headphones, lower the volume to 60% and limit listening time. Use hearing protection: When in noisy environments such as concerts or construction sites, use earplugs to protect your ears. Regular hearing checks: Early detection can help address hearing loss before it becomes a serious issue.

Avoiding inserting objects in the ear: Do not use objects that can damage the ear canal Visit a specialist for cleaning if needed

While prevention is the best strategy, the global increase in hearing loss cases presents a significant challenge for the future. Exposure to noisy environments, population aging, and the lack of access to healthcare services are some of the main reasons that contribute to the rise of these problems.

To minimize this increase, it is crucial to integrate hearing care into health systems at both national and international levels. Proper hearing care is essential for the quality of life of everyone, regardless of age, and with action and collaboration from all relevant stakeholders, we can ensure a future with better hearing for all.

At Economou Hearing Centres, we offer personalized solutions that cater to your unique hearing needs, ensuring you can fully enjoy the precious moments of life with your loved ones.

Could this vitamin help you live longer?

Longevity is all the rage at the moment and if you’re looking for an easy, sciencebacked way to stay healthier as you age, vitamin D3 might be your new go-to. A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has found that people over 50 who took about 50mcg a day of vitamin D3 daily showed signs of slower biological aging - up to three years younger at a cellular level.

This exciting discovery has health experts buzzing, and for good reason. It all comes down to telomeres - tiny caps at the ends of our DNA that naturally get shorter as we age. The study found that vitamin D3 helps protect them, potentially helping you feel and function younger for longer.

The Vitamins Co.’s Dynamic Duo Vitamin D3 + K2 supplement - a powerful duo designed to help you get the most from your daily dose. While vitamin D3 supports immune function, mood, and calcium absorption, vitamin K2 plays a crucial role in directing that calcium to your bones (where it belongs) and away from arteries (where it doesn’t).

Whether you're focused on strong bones, a sharp mind, or just want to keep feeling your best as you get older, adding Vitamin D3 + K2 to your daily routine could be a small change with big results. www.thevitaminsco.com

YOU’RE GOING TO DIE SO DO IT ANYWAY

Warning: If you’re easily offended, morally outraged by a few swear words, or the kind of judgemental asshole who polices how women should behave after a certain age then you won’t be a fan of my blog and carry on living your safe, beige little life. This isn’t for you. Still here? Good. That tells me you’re one of the few with guts. A spark. A flicker of rebellion under the surface. Maybe you’re quietly fed up. Or maybe, like me, you’ve hit a point in your life where you’ve thought: “Is this it?” You’ve ticked all the boxes, played by the rules, been the good girl, the wife, the mother, the employee and now you’re looking in the mirror wondering what the fuck happened to the woman you were before you made yourself smaller to fit in.

I have written a book, YOU’RE GOING TO DIE SO DO IT ANYWAY, It is my middle finger to mediocrity. It’s about tearing up the script after 50, starting again, and doing life on your terms no matter what anyone thinks. I left a marriage, rebuilt my body, reclaimed my confidence, and discovered that the second act can be even more thrilling than the first if you’ve got the balls (or in my case, the boobs) to go for it. So if you’re ready to laugh, cry, wince, and maybe get a kick up the arse in the process turn the page.

Because you’re going to die. So do it anyway.

And if you think this book is about you, then it probably is. Call me petty if you like but there’s a nod to a few people in the book who have pissed me off over the years and thought they got away with it. i am scorpio after all, and my revenge will always be served cold, long after you’ve forgotten me . People often forget that memoirs aren’t just about the feel-good highlights; they’re about truth, resilience, and, quiet reckoning. If someone reads between the lines and recognises themselves… well, maybe you’ve earned your cameo.
