SWIM Sindy was very demure in her first one-piece, ‘Sweet Swimmer’ in 1964, until her first two-piece arrived in 1976 with ‘Sunflowers’, which featured matching cover-ups.

Believe it or not, it wasn’t until the Hasbro years that Sindy got a modern bikini!

T R A V E L DULLSTROOM, MPUMALANGA, SOUTH AFRICA

BY NATALYA BASSANI AT DRSINDYFIX Dullstroom, also known as Emnothweni, is a small town in Mpumalanga province, South Africa.

A dream destination for those seeking a scenic and adventure-filled getaway.

Known for its pristine trout fishing dams, rolling hills, and charming village atmosphere, this Highlands retreat offers a mix of outdoor pursuits and cultural experiences.

HISTORY: Dullstroom is the highest town in South Africa, with an elevation of 2100m above sea level, and features the highest railway station in South Africa, built in 1911.

Dullstroom is the most famous of all the South African Highlands Meander Towns. It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and is known as ‘Scotland’s Only Outpost in Africa’. Around three hours’ drive from Johannesburg, Dullstroom makes the perfect long weekend retreat for people looking to escape the Lowveld heat or the noise and pollution of Gauteng.

HISTORY: The town still has many of its turn of the century historic buildings dating back to its establishment in 1893.

Dullstroom is known for its rich flora and fauna - with many rare blooms like orchids and the delicate golden Arum lily, as well as lush elm and beech trees.

It's also one of the few regions of South Africa where all three endangered crane species can be found these are the Blue Crane, the Grey Crowned Crane, and the Wattled Crane.

The Sindys can be seen here enjoying the popular ‘Trout River Falls’.

GET ACTIVE FISHING: Known as the ‘Trout Triangle’, it’s the ideal spot for rainbow and brown trout fishing, as well as being a hotspot for fly-fishing.

HIKING: The scenic trails through indigenous forests and grasslands are not to be missed.

SWIMMING: Some beautiful waterfalls to visit include the Trout River Falls (shown here), Berlin Falls, which is the known for its 80 metre drop and orange-red cliffs, and the more intimate Lisbon Falls.

It is lovely to add a human face to the dolly accounts.

Under the Hasbro licence the Disney Club Sindy (8020) hit the shelves in 1998. You could choose from three beach-ready Sindys. Each came in a colourful one-piece swimsuit with a different iconic Disney character print. With her extra long plaited hair and a glowing Mediterranean suntan, she was yours for approx. £4.95.
