Théo Kerg (1909-1993)
Deux expositions sont consacrées à l’artiste luxembourgeois Théo Kerg dont l’œuvre, malgré une reconnaissance internationale, a été peu visible au Luxembourg. Approchant l’œuvre de Kerg différemment, le MNHA présente des œuvres apparentées à « L’École de Paris » et le Cercle Cité s’intéresse à la richesse stylistique et artistique dont l’artiste a fait preuve tout au long de sa carrière. Documents inédits, prêts de grands musées européens (Centre Pompidou, Paris ; Musée de Grenoble ; Museum Ludwig Köln ; Von der HeydtMuseum, Wuppertal) et collections privées constituent en grande partie l’exposition.
Souvent en série, les œuvres des deux artistes s’élaborent sur plusieurs années, comme La vallée von Uexküll, ensemble de cinq vidéos silencieuses de couchers de soleil filmés sans objectif et dont chaque film est élaboré avec le dernier format numérique sorti : SD / HDMI / HD / 2K / 4K. À l’étage, plusieurs films entraînent le visiteur dans l’histoire des techniques et des technologies via deux épisodes d’une série au format télévision. Rencontre entre patrimoine historique et film s’exprime à travers une vidéo reprenant à l’identique les plans d’un court-métrage de Jean-Daniel Pollet Bassae consacré au temple d’Apollon – monument aujourd’hui filmé bâché. La mesure Louvre et La mesure minérale s’intéressent aux « machines de vision » qui jouent et troublent le visible par des modifications de vitesse jouant entre accélérations, ralentis. The works of these two artists are often created over several years and developed in series. Such was the case with La vallée von Uexküll, a series of five silent videos of sunsets filmed without a lens where each film was developed using the latest digital format (SD/HDMI/HD/2K/4K). Upstairs in the Casino visitors will have the chance to view several films that explore the history of techniques and technologies via two episodes of a series made in TV format. This meeting of historical heritage and film is expressed through a video that is identical to a short film by Jean-Daniel Pollet called Bassae dedicated to the temple of Apollo – a monument that today is filmed with a cover over it. La mesure Louvre and La mesure minérale are both interested in “vision machines” that disrupt our perception of what is visible by playing with film speeds and alternating between accelerating and slowing down.

Première exposition monographique de Fabien Giraud & Raphaël Siboni qui s’intéresse à l’image, sa production, sa définition technique, ses moyens de diffusion et de restitution comme noyau d’une réalité nouvelle. This first monographic exhibition for Fabien Giraud & Raphaël Siboni is preoccupied with the moving image, how it is produced, its technical definition and how it is broadcast and propagated as the kernel of a new reality.
Luxembourg hosts two exhibitions devoted to home-grown artist Théo Kerg whose work is of international repute but not that well-known in his own country. These two shows approach Kerg’s output differently: the exhibition at the MNHA (National Museum of History and Art) displays works that fall within the École de Paris (Paris School) style; the show at the Cercle Cité highlights the sheer stylistic and artistic breadth and scope the artist has shown throughout his career through previously unseen documents and loans from major European museums (such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Musée de Grenoble, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne and the Von der HeydtMuseum in Wuppertal) and private collections.

Lee Bul
Le Mudam invite une des artistes sud-coréennes les plus importantes de la scène internationale : Lee Bul. Développant, depuis des années, une œuvre qui questionne le rapport des corps au monde, qu’ils soient organiques ou architecturaux, Lee Bul vient perturber, par son esthétique futuriste, notre propre perception. Son exposition, qu’elle a conçue pour les salles au sous-sol du musée et pour le Grand Hall, est un événement artistique qui nous plonge dans un monde hybride entre corps et machines, entre surfaces réfléchissantes et sculptures rhizomatiques. Mudam has invited Lee Bul, one of the most important South Korean artists on the international stage, to put on a retrospective of her work. Bul has been examining the relationship bodies (both organic and artificial) have with the world for years, disrupting our own perceptions through her futuristic aesthetic. The exhibition she created for the museum’s basement and its Grand Hall is an artistic event that plunges us into a hybrid world between body and machine, between reflective surfaces and rhizomatic sculptures.
