ANTI-FRAUD SOFTWARE A new version of Oracle’s Mantas Behavior Detection Platform has just been launched to assist financial institutions in fighting criminal activities and keeping in line with the latest regulations. With modules for anti-money laundering, fraud, Know Your Customer, broker compliance and trading compliance functions, the platform makes use of sophisticated analysis and visualization capabilities to find patterns in the transactions of seemingly unrelated accounts or entities. The software is particularly useful thanks to its ability to analyse data from multiple sources at the enterprise level. This high level synthesis also makes it easier to prepare the required regulatory reports. Finally, by reducing the number of false positives, Oracle’s platform improves customer relationships.
PRINTING Accurate colour calibration is very important when proofing print jobs on the screen, and LaCie has just introduced a new product, the LaCie blue eye pro Proof Edition, to simplify the calibration process for clients needing to produce contractual proofs in conformation with the UGRA/FOGRA Mediawedge standard. Users only need to enter the desired results in terms of luminosity, white and black points, etc., and blue eye pro will automatically calibrate the screen and create a corresponding profile. Conveniently, the profile can then be saved, making it simple to switch from one environment to another without laborious adjustments. To simplify its integration into the user’s general workflow, the LaCie blue eye pro Proof Edition is compatible with all major graphic design software.
VIDEOCONFERENCE Polycom, the well-known maker of conferencing solutions, is introducing the RMX 2000 V4.0, the latest in the RMX line of multi-site video conference platforms. This version is the first to support video up to 1080p true HD, but it is also designed to accommodate mixed resolution transmissions to enable connections among several devices with different capabilities. The Flexible Resource Capacity configuration option optimises transmission to fit what each participant’s equipment requires. Furthermore, its Video Clarity feature can clean up images transmitted at a lower resolution. Impressively, when transmitting exclusively HD video, the RMX 2000 V4.0 supports up to 20 calls at 1080p and 40 at 720p. In a mixed environment, it can handle up to 160 simultaneous calls.

PHONES
ACCESSORIES
Norwegian telecommunications company Tandberg has launched its E20 video IP phone, designed to bring videoconference abilities to the average employee’s desk. Unlike most video phones, which tend to distort the user’s face, the E20 contains a five megapixel camera to capture high-resolution video and allow employees to read facial expressions accurately. The video is complemented by CD-quality audio, and the phone can also be used in audio-only mode when desired. Users will equally find familiar functions like call transfer and forwarding, voicemail and so forth. The E20 can integrate into any unified communications platform, making it more attractive for businesses to install. According to the company, the phone will greatly increase productivity by promoting collaboration and decreasing the costs associated with having employees travel from office to office for meetings. They also claim that the technology is particularly important during the current economic crisis because easier collaboration spurs innovation to help businesses stand out.

To avoid the discomfort that comes from having a hot computer perched on one’s lap for hours, Logitech is launching the Cooling Pad N100, the completion of its line of laptop accessories. The pad improves airflow around the computer whether it’s being used at a desk or from the comfort of the couch. To power its fans, the pad draws power through a USB cord plugged into the computer, representing only a minor extra drain on battery life. Equally, it features a rear air intake, diminishing the likelihood that airflow is blocked.
E-LEARNING The Flemish Information Center for Graphic Computing now provides video tutorials and reports on the printing industry via a new website called VIGC.tv. All the videos are freely accessible, and they can be searched either with traditional keyword searches or by selecting them out of the “video cloud”. To avoid abuse and keep the content relevant, videos cannot be uploaded by users, and each one is checked before appearing on the site. According to the managing director of VIGC, Eddy Hagen, the real value of the site is the immediacy of video and its power to communicate new concepts quickly and simply.
