Executive Summary The Pensacola Chamber of Commerce is the client we were presented with for our Integrated Applied Finish Wayfinding Project. The objectives of this project were to give our group of designers the opportunity to create a new concept for integrated wayfinding that includes using the research, context, and customized applied finishes in design that will aid for independent navigation throughout the interior space. We are to use the principles of universal design, demographic and human factors, and involve the brand of the Chamber to achieve and develop the objective of the integrated wayfinding. The mission of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce is “to promote and endeavor in order to improve the quality of life in the region driven by the growth, success, and civic engagement of the business community.” They have the vision to be a “vibrant community working together to ensure a greater Pensacola that is rich in talent and resources, and committed to the ideals of excellence, prosperity, innovation, and responsible growth for future generations.” (About the Greater Pensacola Chamber, 2020, October 22.) As a brand, they seek to be an inclusive community that looks to improve as they are encouraged by their business community. The best way to help achieve their mission and vision is to start with the core. Helping them from the inside out through design will help accomplish their goals. The new design of the Chamber of Commerce will incorporate materials and designs of their local community and involve finishes that are sufficient for people of all ages. When creating the design concepts for the flooring, walls, and ceilings, we had to go back to our foundation of objectives and model our design through those guides. Background research of the flooring projected the start of the project. Then, we began to use the context and demographic of Pensacola to confirm further decision making when selecting the custom materials, finishes, and design of the Chamber. Wayfinding has a large role in the Integrated Applied Finish Wayfinding Project. Through finishes and materials, independent navigation can be achieved. Whether it is through a change of flooring, directional sign usage, or the manipulation of ceiling features and heights, wayfinding is a tool used in this specific design of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce. As a team, we came together and researched our client and worked with one another to select finishes and materials for the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce. The new design integrates their local community, wayfinding, their corporate identity, and universal design. We have chosen materials that pass their needed tests surpassing the needed scores, impervious to moisture, and cost-efficient which all aid in the safety of the visitors and workers. Those who walk into the Chamber will feel the inclusion of the vibrant community while feeling at home with the selections made for the purpose of representing Pensacola.
