In recent years, the changes and development trends of the international economic environment have affected the future development direction of Taiwan's industries. In particular, in the face of the everchanging global industrial environment, globalized economic and trade competition, and the integration and strengthening of regional economies, if Taiwan's industrial development cannot timely adjust relevant industrial development policies with a technological and international mindset, Taiwan's global industrial layout and development will inevitably be limited (Ministry of Economic Affairs, 2012). In the face of supply-side trends such as technological integration and the internationalization of R&D, which also reflect the direction of Taiwan's industrial structure adjustment, the development needs and soft power conditions of cross-domain integrated industries will be relatively important in the future. For this reason, in the era of knowledge economy, creativity, knowledge, the establishment of values and standards, the quality of the people and cultural uniqueness have become the core elements of national competitiveness.
The domestic fashion textile industry has a secondhighest annual domestic and foreign sales ratio after the electronics industry, and plays a key role in driving the national economy. With the government's active efforts, it is expected that the domestic fashion textile industry will use "design" and "brand" to drive the entire value chain of the industry, and the total output value of the textile industry will reach NT$700 billion by 2020. Therefore, the fashion industry will definitely play an important role in the next wave of industrial development in Taiwan. In order to meet the government's needs for industrial internationalization, localization, specialization and specialization, it is necessary to cultivate pragmatic fashion industry professionals.
Our school has a history of more than 50 years in higher vocational education and has an outstanding reputation. Therefore, in the 105th academic year, we will establish the first "Fashion College" in the country, hoping to provide creativity, design and marketing to integrate the professional talents needed by the domestic fashion industry and even the international fashion industry, and help create Taiwan's industry characteristics and new development opportunities in the face of the globalization of the fashion industry.
Inspired by my own insomnia experience, this collection describes different scenarios and moods from dusk to dawn. This collection combined vegetable tanned leather and multi-materials to create multifunctional bags. Rechargeable/plug-in LED lights were used for sustainable purposes and to decrease the pollution from disposable batteries. The patterns on each bag allow for different levels of light and shadow so other than storage, the bags could also be used as portable atmosphere lamps for home furnishing, outdoor camping, and picnic parties, etc.
Ancient Chinese book “Jade Pian” explains the character “dá” (dá), which describes the appearance of a dragon hovering. The Chinese character “dá” is composed of three "Loong" characters, which means dragon, just like three dragons soaring in the sky, and human beings use all their strength to fight for the things they want.
This collection combines Chinese style with cyberpunk, and modern workwear elements. It represents human beings being born in the wilderness since ancient times, and they are unwilling to loss themselves in the changing society. The silhouettes come from the postures of 6 wondrous beasts of “Classic of Mountains and Seas”, the Chinese classic text and a compilation of mythic geography and beasts. Tao-tie represents desires, Qiong-qi represents various forms of violence, Xiang-liu is cold-blooded and ruthless. Ya-yu betrays others but longs to be loved, Hun-dun blindly follows others to do evil, and finally Kun-peng symbolizes freedom and ambitions. These beasts symbolize human’s desire, dvesha, ignorance, pride, and jealousy. In the end, they will lead people to eventually find their own idea lives.
The flower patterns on the fabric are inspired by Van Gogh's paintings. It was handpainted with acrylic paint to describe the artist’s soul and feelings. The main colors of this collection pays tribute to Van Gogh’s sunflower and his idyllic aesthetics. The withered sunflowers at the end of the summer give the impression of decadence and powerfulness. The pattern and structure of the garments show both sense and sensibility.
Connecting day and night, this mission begins at this moment. Sunflower is like me, the sun is like my dream. Even though sometimes I feel confused and can’t find my direction, I will still face the sun when it comes up again. My mission is to become a person who never gives up, just like sunflowers. In order to decrease the waste from fast fashion consumption, windproof and waterproof fabrics were used to give each garment multifunction. Through pattern design, cutting, and stitching, the width of the top and length of the pants are adjustable for different looks and situations. Utilizing folding and the zipper, the bag could turn into a raincoat, and all adjustable parts are attached, so nothing will be lost or wasted.
This collection is inspired by pumpkins, which symbolize great dreams and hope. It is combined with futuristic concept for this collection. This collection utilizes pressed pleats and silver-toned fabrics to represent the coldness of the space. The pressed pleated lines and the subtle metal textured surfaces bring out futuristic elements. The silver fabric could also reflect light in the space to keep the consumers cool.
The fabric choice not only increases the durability and adaptability of the garment, but also could protects consumers from cosmic radiation and particles. This collection is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), providing a sustainable and safe solution for space exploration.
This collection is inspired by the owl, and shows respect for the Taiwanese aboriginal culture. It tells the story of sacred imaged owls guarding the land and history. The strong yet soft wings of the owl are presented through knitting techniques, and the loose and wide silhouette creates a sense of security for the wearer being wrapped and protected. The dark blue and purple fabrics depict the mysterious night, which also highlight owls’ nocturnal characteristic. The knitted part is embellished with glitter yarn like stars in the night sky. This symbolizes the beacon of god, and also echoes with the owl as god’s messenger. They play the role of guardians in Taiwanese aboriginal legend and brings people hope and mystery.
The pattern of digital printing comes from suffering facial expressions, which symbolize emotional struggles. The vivid colors and hand embroidery represent the persistence of fighting emotional turmoil, and into the brighter side after overcoming drug addiction. The street basketball style was added for positive energy, and to remind how exercise increases healthiness both physically and mentally.
This collection fuses emotional turmoil, the determination to overcome drug addiction, persistence, healthiness, and hope. It brims with vitality and perseverance, presenting a style which is not only visually enjoyable but also emotionally inspiring for the viewers.
This collection is inspired by childhood memories of raising goldfish. Utilizing the elasticity and stiffness of scuba knit, different patterns were stitched together by overlock machine. Different layers overlap to form wavy and intense lines, just like the fins of goldfish. The garments sway with each step and movement to simulate the posture of a goldfish roaming in the water. Even with limited water and space, they still swim leisurely and enjoy themselves.
The world is moving toward a high-tech, developed and convenient future, which uses science and technology to create a highly efficient generation. In order to achieve the goal of sustainable development and to promote the concept of sustainable consumption of global resource recycling, this collection uses off-season functional stretch and water-repellent fabrics. Combined with composite windproof materials, the casual wear is minimalistic and fashionable. The garments from this collection are multi-functional, and could be collocated with each other for different looks to promote the concept of recycling. This could help to change the consumption idea of fast fashion, and create sustainable value for the better good of the world.
Every person has his own unique gender temperament, and the state of gender may change depending on different moods and situation. Any Stereotype, appearance, should not be framed nor defined as one gender, because the gender is fluid.
The main color is pure white, which does not symboized any gender and is not limited to any characteristics.
The concept of this collection is based on the gay culture of the East Coast of the United States, and utilizing VOGUE dance as the core of the design. The stiff leather fabric is used to show avant-garde strength, and to integrate dance elements into the shape and tailoring of each look, which highlighting the natural curves of human body, and combining the flow of gender with the concept of this collection.
The bold and vivid colors weave the yearn and imagination towards the future world. Inspired by Cyberpunk's lightsensitive hues, we use acrylic pigments with fluorescent effects to express the urban nights.
Each piece of clothing has unique traces that were painted by hand. The finishing coat gives the fabric water resistance and durable function, so the clothes could greatly overcome the weather outdoor. Fluorescent acrylic pigments reflect light intensively and are highly recognizable at night, so the clothes are safe when walking outside. The ribbon attached on the garment not only embellished but also increase the functionality of the garment.
“Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it that lasts forever.” Inspired by the book “Norwegian Wood” by Haruki Murakami, the concept is extended by whale fall. Wave printing, and the overall blue color present a beautiful, romantic, quiet, and soft atmosphere. The pleats and curved silhouette symbolize whale. The movement of the pleats presents the splashing moment when the whale fall. Some fabrics have a shiny finish to represent the sparkling surface of the ocean.
Fast fashion is an on-going trend, and causes environmental issues when clothes are overproduced. The balance between fashion and the sustainability is everyone’s responsibility nowadays.
The wearable art combined with customized digital prints, second-hand clothes, old toys, and snack packaging bags to emphasize the sustainable spirit - UPERCYCLING. The colorful layers and collage in exaggerate shapes and forms are used to express the childlike world in everyone‘s mind.
Third International Monument represents people's utopian dreams. We hope that the disputes and wars disappear as time goes by.
The main colors are in rusty shades. All the fabric was burned to create a fragile effect. The burned pieces were sewn together to symbolize that Utopia is no longer a fantasy. The patched pieces are just like wounds in a healing process. We believe the world would heal as this collection are finished through the patchworks.
Wind makes the water surface ripple, the plants dance, and the fire burn. It is invisible, but everything moves with it. The characteristic of wind is beautiful while itself cannot be explained through visualization. This collection features the distorted characteristics and light transmission effect of multi-materials, and creates the look of lives brought by the wind in the nature where all things live.
Using yarn and wool felt as the main materials, the layers are stacked and destroyed to present the design concept. Light transmission and ductility materials were used to enlarge the overall visual effect without limit body movement.
Based on the flowing lines on the human body, the model is based on art and supplemented by makeup. It focuses on the balance between the beauty of fashionable makeup and the artistic creation of body painting and has a perfect red lip with bright and beating flowing lines.

The fluidity of bamboo and ink is expressed in makeup by using water-based pigments instead of ink during the creative process. The soft brushstrokes and lines express a sense of flow, combined with local splashes of ink to make the whole painting more casual and freer. Then green is used to express the tenacity and greenery of bamboo, so that everyone can feel the combination of nature and art. The lighting uses warm colors to make the picture more layered. "Dark, light, yellow color and soft nature. Only the fragrance stays in the distance."-Partridge Sky · Osmanthus by Li Qing-Zhao
In the poem, osmanthus is not as eye-catching as other famous flowers, but it is memorable with its unique posture. The outline of this collection echoes the impression of sweet-scented osmanthus in the poem. The texture of osmanthus was deconstructed for making prints and handmade fabrics. The extended image tells the journey of finding oneself. Irregular gold leaves represent a serious and precious appearance in life. It is not perfect, but it is shiny.
Combining fiber art with photography, this collection presents fashion with three-dimensional scenic views. The delicate weaving techniques and multiple color combinations show the unique features of the mother nature. The traditional embroidery brings out the lively marine animals. The scenery used in this collection blends people into the nature, shows the beauty of the ecology sincerely, and is meant to awaken the attention towards environmental conservation and marine ecological resources.
Ms., Mrs., and Mr. are titles for male and female. “X” means unknown, and the undefined gender, just like butterflies flutter their wings to pursuit self-definition in next generation.
Draw strings and trims were used to symbolize metamorphosis. The unisex silhouette was combined with detachable bags. The colorful butterfly prints mean not afraid of other’s opinion and to break through for a new life.

Encountering different things and facing the unknown future, we feel afraid and looking forward to it at the same time. How will the future go? We will wait and see.
Gray color symbolizes future, and it has a calm, mysterious, and uncertain image. Therefore, the gray white color tone is massively used. The matt, translucent TPU material represents the uncertainty, and the silver fabric was padded for an avant-garde style.
High performance elastic fabric was used for a sporty feeling. The bags were also designed with sports usage. This collection has a futuristic sporty style.
The birth of a new life begins with cell division passing down from generation to generation, just like the DNA of all livings adapt to the environment and compete with each other. It eventually transforms into life forms we know in order to make true connections with others and to continue lives.
In order to present the skeleton of DNA, we use the winding technique. Lines and folds represent the composition and rhythmic state of genes. The doublesided waves on the costume express the intersection of meiosis. They interlock and influence each other and produce new life forms that continue on this vital earth.

The inspiration for the design of "WHO AM I" came from children who were emotionally blackmailed by those closed to them and could not control their thoughts and emotions independently. In this collection, a lot of related inspirations such as puppets and stereotypes are added, and each look is individually shaped into a character, which indirectly satirizes the modern society. When one’s own personality can’t be accepted by the surroundings, one could only meet others’ expectation in order to survive in the cruel world.
Our design is meant to break through traditions and are not limited to the normal clothing that the public believes. The concept is “self-awareness” and it means to wake the sense that everyone is different.
The five looks each has its’ own unique taste. We use a wide shape design on the collars and sleeves, in order to present a strong visual effect. The clean silhouette, cutting, and the cool colors are used to give people a sense of alienation that hard to approach. The overall design hopes to set off the beautiful image that everyone who aspires to become a trend leader and has a sense of innovation.

This collection is inspired by the Rainbow Bridge of the Seediq legend. The souls who successfully passed the Rainbow Bridge will gather with the ancestors and held a celebratory party.
This collection combined knitting with Seediq elements. The totem of the Seediq is turned into a print on the knitted fabrics, and the embossed knitted fabric symbolizes the Rainbow Bridge of the Seediq legend. The curved silhouette makes the garments interesting, and the bright colors create a party like happy atmosphere.

About Department of Fashion Business and Merchandising
In an era where the aesthetics economy seamlessly integrates into our daily lives, fashion rises as the epitome of cultural expression. Within this dynamic backdrop, the Fashion Business and Merchandising Department has risen to prominence. Through a comprehensive curriculum that delves into the realms of fashion trends, branding, exhibition design, and marketing strategies, the department tries to instill in our students a keen international sensibility, a profound fashion insight, and the ability to craft brands with unparalleled creativity. Welcome to the future of fashion—where creativity knows no bounds, and beauty know no limits.
The mission of Fashion Business and Merchandising Department is to empower students with international vision, heightened fashion acumen, unparalleled brand creativity, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to seamlessly integrate information. Through a dynamic curriculum, real-world experiences, and a commitment to excellence, we prepare our students to thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of the fashion industry. Whether they embark on careers in fashion brand management, marketing, curation, visual merchandising, or any other faceot of this vibrant field, they will be equipped with multi-skills for the industry.
Our department is strategically oriented towards addressing the evolving needs of the fashion industry, focusing on cultivating specialized professions to replace the broad roles in marketing. We emphasize the preparation of individuals for two key fields: “Brand Manager” and “Marketing Director”.
Where Fashion Meets Excellence —Event Planning and Execution
In the world of fashion, it’s all about capturing attention, and event planning and execution are the cornerstones of making a statement. That’s why honing these skills is one of top priority for our students. To illuminate their skillset, the department actively engage in a wide array of on-campus and off-campus events, providing them with hands-on experience in real-world settings. Below are some of the events that the department has been participated.
The fashion industry undergoes rapid changes, and aligning with international trends is a daily necessity. Consequently, since 2017, the Fashion College has been organizing the annual Design and Fashion Month series of events to serve as a platform to enhance students’ global perspective and enrich their professional horizons. The department actively participates in the planning and execution of these events.
These events are not just a window into the future of fashion; they are a doorway to the world. They provide our students with a unique opportunity to engage with international experts, gain insights into global trends, and expand their knowledge and skills. Design and Fashion Month is where creativity, innovation, and international collaboration converge to shape the fashion leaders of tomorrow.
The "Taipei Fashion Week" initiated the "Fashion Design Schools Exhibition" since 2021. The department has been an active participant in the planning and execution of this annual event, including theme of the show and concept of the visual effects. These events are not just about clothing; they are immersive experiences that blend artistry, culture, and design. Through Taipei Fashion Week, students have the opportunity to experience the reality of fashion shows, collaborate closely with industry professionals, and deliver outstanding performances.
Young Designers’ Exhibition serves as a shining stage for design students across Taiwan. Although the Fashion Business and Merchandising Department does not produce design-related works, the primary goal for the us is to cultivate professionals in the fashion industry with expertise beyond design. Curating and executing events are essential training components for us, ensuring that the students are well-prepared to handle various events. Therefore, the department actively participates in the planning and execution of every year of the Young Designers’ Exhibition.
The Taichung City Government also provides a platform for students to showcase their creative talents through the A+ Cultural Heritage Creative Festival. Since 2020, the Fashion College has been an enthusiastic participant, driven by our commitment to train students to become forces to be reckoned with in exhibition and execution. The department seizes every opportunity to engage in various type of exhibitions, ensuring that the students gain valuable experience across diverse exhibition formats.
These events not only showcase our students’ talents but also provide them with the invaluable experience they need to thrive in the fast-paced and ever-evolving world of fashion.
Given the growing emphasis on university social responsibility, the Fashion Institute has proposed the "Green Fashion Project." The department actively engages in the competition and execution of activities related to this project. Through various project-based activities, students have the opportunity to learn how to navigate different situations.
In order to foster self-development and diversified learning opportunities for our students, the department encourages active participation in both on-campus and off-campus academic competitions and seminars. Through interaction and exchange with the outside world, students not only broaden their horizons and perspectives but also develop their interpersonal communication skills. This enriches their university experience.
Furthermore, we believe that engaging in these competitions not only enhances students’ individual abilities but also promotes team work skills preparing them for the highly competitive social and work environments they will face.
Recognizing the intense competitiveness of the current job market, the department has designed an internship program that offers students the opportunity to earn valuable internship credits. We believe that through these internships, students can gain practical workplace experience that will significantly enhance their employability and seamlessly transition them into the workforce after graduation. Our internship partners include the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (branches in Tucheng and Yunlin), Eelin Entertainment Co., Ltd., Austin W. Fashion Studio, Tokyo Workshop International Co., Ltd., MUJI, Poya, Yi-Chuan Enterprise Co., Ltd. (fabric distributor), Beauty Salon, bridal boutiques, and other prestigious companies.
These internships offer students the chance to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, build professional networks, and develop essential skills that will serve them well throughout their careers. Whether it’s domestic or overseas internships, our goal is to provide students with a holistic learning experience that prepares them for the demands of the modern workforce.
In order to enhance students' international mobility, the department provides the Overseas Internship Program, enabling students to engage in overseas internships and explore Europe. In May 2023, four of our students had the incredible opportunity to journey to Greece for an enriching two-month internship with the renowned local fashion brand, AMMA. The internship encompassed wide range of hands-on industry tasks, including brainstorming for new product line concepts, conceptualizing names for new collections, participating in photoshoots for the upcoming line, and gaining valuable experience in managing physical retail store.
This international internship experience not only exposed our students to the global fashion scene but also provided them with a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the industry. It allowed them to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world context, strengthen their adaptability, and broaden their cultural horizons. We are proud to offer such opportunities to the students, enabling them to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
In addition to international internships, the department offers the Overseas Elite Scholarship that turn students’ dreams of studying abroad into reality. Since its inception, this scholarship program has been the gateway for our students to embark on enriching international exchange programs with our international partner university.
In 2018, one of our students, Du, Ting-Hsuan spent a semester at the Internatioal Business School of Sogang University in South Korea. Another student, Chen, Wen-Hsuan participated in a short-term exchange program at Birmingham City University in the United Kingdom. In the 2021, Hsiao, Ting-Yun went to Korea. In the 2022-2023, student Liu, Fu-Rong embarked on a year-long exchange journey at Kyonggi University in South Korea.
These experiences not only enrich students’ academic and personal lives but also prepare them to excel in a globally interconnected world. We believe that through international exchanges and internships, our students will continue to broaden their horizons, gain valuable skills, and become true global citizens.
The department offers a diverse range of courses that integrate the latest fashion trends and align with industry work place standards. Our mission is to equip students with the professional knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the fashion-related field and prepare them for successful careers. The following are some examples of the learning achievements of our students:

Streetwear in the 21st century is now at a cultural peak. There are brand collaborations every week, and it has branched into other industries. It is commonplace to open social software and seecollaboration information; however, a brand uses atypical design techniques and business models. The new fashion star Virgil Abloh rose and died at the end of 2021.
This creation hopes to use the designer's concept of ready-made objects as a carrier to analyze Virgil Abloh's development in the fashion industry, and then master his creative techniques and design elements, and sort out the art characteristics of Dada artism as an empirical creation.
