CLUB REPORTS - NOVEMBER Britannia

In November, members participated in many volunteer projects. With Christmas coming up, Britannia Key Club signed up to take part in gift wrapping at Metrotown with the MS Society and to take on various roles for Rogers Santa Claus parade. Both the orientations for these two events took place in November, and the executive team is very happy with the turnout of Key Clubbers representing Britannia. In addition to volunteering, some members attended CKI's Interclub, where we contributed to Operation Christmas Child. Some of us sewed trauma dolls; while others traced and cut out fabric for these dolls. It was a great night! Members enjoyed visiting the Sauder building at UBC and meeting other members of the Kiwanis Family. Most importantly, we think we speak for everyone when we say that we enjoyed the delicious Subway cookies. In all seriousness, was great to hear about what other clubs were doing. Finally, at the end of November, Britannia Key Club had its yearbook photos taken! We hope that you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed posing for them. We are looking forward to a very productive, fun-filled holiday season! Visit the Metrotown gift wrapping booth, you just might meet another Key Clubber! :)

VanTech November was filled with great enthusiasm and success as Van Tech's Key Club achieved more than $600 for UNICEF! Shout outs to Nada, Marissa, and Kim for bringing in a significant amount of donations! With Key Club Week to start off the month, our club had the opportunity to show the rest of the school some of our spirit and got to experience our first Miracle Minute of the year for the Eliminate Project. Collecting more than $40 in change at our meeting, our lucky members got to see our club's president get pied in the face with a plate full of whipping cream!! We definitely need to see THAT again!

Prince OfWales For the month of November, Prince of Wales Key Club held a very successful bake sale fundraising for the Eliminate Project. We also volunteered at community centres, at the Camosun Bog, and at the Santa Claus Parade. One of the most special activities PW Key Club did this month was getting to meet our West Vancouver Kiwanians! We were warmly welcomed, and had the chance to enjoy a nice dinner with them. We are also taking in orders for our club hoodies!

Killarney

The month of November has seen some pretty chilly weather and some pretty busy and great key clubbers! After Halloween, we raised around $100 from trick-or-treat for UNICEF for the Eliminate Project. Nineteen of us attended the Interclub hosted by UBC CKI. We had fun meeting new people and challenged ourselves through the very detailed task of making trauma dolls. We also began our crepe sales again and offered students and staff delicious freshly made crepes during lunch. Key clubbers spent time making posters, attending training sessions, and cooking and assembling the crepes. We sold out, making $80 after expenses and that will go towards our Build-A-School fund, to build a school in Sierra Leone with Killarney's Adopt-A-Village club. For this month's DCM, we had 12 members attend, all of whom had lots of fun playing icebreakers. Organizing for our Christmas fundraiser, Deck the Halls, and our annual special event, Cutting Edge is underway. Mark your calendars, Cutting Edge will be on January 17th!

DISTRICT PROJECT 9 160 38 61 1.80

One baby dies every 9 minutes from maternal and neonatal tetanus

160 babies dies each day from maternal and neonatal tetanus

38 countries remain at high risk for maternal and neonatal tetanus

It was announced at Spring Board by Governor Trang Tran that our district project for the term is The Eliminate Project. The Eliminate Project raises money for women in multiple countries that are effected by Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth.

Kiwanis will help protect 61 million mothers and their future babies

The effects are excruciating - newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and have extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival and the baby dies within 7 days of being alive.

It only takes $1.80 to provide 3 tetanus vaccinations to one mother

Together, Kiwanis and UNICEF can stop this disease.

With around 12000 Key Clubbers in the Pacific Northwest, our district goal is to get $2 dollars per member for a total of $24000 by District Convention 2014. I would like to put Vice Presidents within each club in charge of organizing fundraisers for the Eliminate Project. Consider making a Projects or Fundraising Committee with interested club members. My goal for our division is $200 per club by DCON 2014!

Eliminate Educate Educate yourself about MNT, and share what you learn with your club, your community, your family and your school. Advocate Let the world know that the poorest, most vulnerable babies and mothers need our help. Rally others to get involved. Eliminate Over the next five years, the work you do to eliminate MNT will change the world. Together, Kiwanis and UNICEF will eliminate MNT and give the poorest families the chance to lead the healthy lives they deserve.

Make sure to be advertising the project and fundraise! If you want some ideas for fundraisers, hold a Miracle Minute at your club meeting! Bake sales at lunch hour are usually very successful too! Get creative with fundraiser ideas. At big school events, have a booth set up for your club and sell goods for The Eliminate Project.

The district board made a PNW Eliminate Project page to show updates on our district's progress. Like and share the page! facebook.com/PnwEliminateProject

Board Of Magical Surprises This is the Board Of Magical Surprises, a point system where clubs will be rewarded for various things. This page will show what points each club got for the previous month and their overall total. At the end of the term, I will be tallying up all marks and the winning CHARTERED and UNCHARTED club will receive a reasonable prize of their choice. Let's see who wins at the end of the term! :)
