From the President

Dear LBC Members,

Summer is coming to a close and we still have a few weeks remaining to enjoy the pool before cooler temperatures and fall festivities begin

This month I would like to recognize and thank Ginny Tyler who serves as one of five at-large Board Directors and leads the Entertainment Committee Ginny and her committee have done a wonderful job creating member engagement events for everyone at LBC including the upcoming Bocce and Bubbles on September 13 and Brunch at the Pavilion & Dog Day at the Pool on September 15.

The board is recommending an update to our bylaws to change our R.I.P. (Repair, Improvement and Planning Committee) Chair from an at-large Board Director, to an elected Officer and member of the Executive Committee R I P requires a special knowledge set and is vital to the work of the Board and General Manager

Please hold the evening of Wednesday, December 4th, for LBC’s Annual Meeting on your calendars This is an important event when we will elect new leaders to join the Board of Directors and present a recap of the year along with future plans If you want to be more involved in helping the club reach our vision to become the premier racquets, sports, and social club in Louisville, consider running for one of the open board seats We will have more detailed information in the October and November newsletters

FITNESS UPDATES

FITNESS SPOTLIGHT

Featuring Katie Rhawn

LBC member, Katie Rhawn, participated in the Inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 in Louisville, Kentucky. IRONMAN Louisville took place from 2007 to 2019, but August 18, 2024, was the first year for the 70.3 race

2024 IRONMAN 70 3 Louisville began with a 1 2-mile downstream swim in the Ohio River. Athletes then transitioned at the Great Lawn in Waterfront Park, to a scenic 56-mile bike course leaving Louisville along River Road and continuing to the rolling hills and beautiful countryside of Oldham County. The 13.1mile run took place along the Ohio River and through several beautiful Louisville Parks on the way back to an unforgettable finish line experience downtown at Fourth Street Live, just as the original IRONMAN event did

Katie was inspired by Ed Rhawn Sr, who competed in the New York City Marathon, at the same age she decided to complete this year ’ s IRONMAN 70 3 race She ran cross country in both high school and college Having previously completed three other 70 3 races 15 years prior, Katie understood the time and dedication that it took to train Katie would like to send a huge thank you and big hugs to her husband, Stockie, and her two boys, Woods and Robert, for their understanding, support, and encouragement during the last 6 months

The LBC Fitness Center was super helpful when it came to Katie’s training regimen The bikes and Peloton app, along with the weight room, allowed her to focus on the goal ahead The LBC pool was also a wonderful place to swim laps and cross-train

Congratulations to Katie for this milestone achievement! All members are encouraged to begin their own pursuit of a similar themed event, but much less grueling, - the LBC Triathlon on Sunday September 8th
