From the President

Dear LBC Members,

Fall is in the air and events are moving indoors for the season. LBC has the amenities needed to host all of your family, business, and holiday gatherings George and the staff are ready to help plan every detail of your next event whether it is a small business lunch or a 300-person wedding I use LBC for my nonprofit’s quarterly board meetings and enjoy the ease of selecting the menu and setting up technology for presentations My board members appreciate the convenience of the location with ample parking along with the incredible views of the river

The Board of Directors has approved changing to an uncontested election process and the Nominating Committee is currently building a slate of candidates equal to the number of board positions to be filled This helps to ensure that the most qualified members are slated to fill the open needs on the Board and represent the different areas of the Club To serve as an Officer or Director, a member must be an eligible Full Member and have been a former member of the Board of Directors or served for at least two (2) years as an active member of one of the Club’s official committees If you have questions or need more information, please reach out to me or this year ’ s Nominating Committee Chair, Reid Hafer

I look forward to welcoming the incoming Board members at our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 4th.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Farewell to the Season from the Docks!

RIVER CAPTAIN UPDATE

As we begin to wind down activity for the season, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible summer and fall it’s been For the first time in years, our dock slips were completely full, and we hosted Thursday Happy Hours at one of Louisville’s best waterfront spots It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying drinks, sunsets, and good company along the river I hope you didn’t miss out on the fun, and that the season brought you plenty of unforgettable moments

We have so many memories to look back on this year from the group trips that made for countless laughs to those quiet, meaningful conversations with members who have long histories here Some of my favorite moments were listening to our seasoned members reminisce about their adventures and time on the docks, many dating back decades

For instance, Gar Davis shared how he built our current docks as one of his first big projects right out of college Fun fact: Gar and his dad salvaged the metal for our seawall from a sunken barge in the Falls of the Ohio! And Greg Treitz sent a great story about canoeing with his cousin as a kid

Did you know that our Dads and Kids Campout used to be held on 12 Mile Island? We’d boat over and set up camp right in the heart of the island (there is a campground boaters clean up each year) I can only imagine the tales those campers would have from back then!

Looking ahead to 2025, I hope you’ll think about the memories and adventures still waiting for you and your family on the river We’re planning some exciting new programs to bring our community even closer, so stay tuned!

Wishing you fair winds and following seas,

Martin Low River Captain
