From the President

Dear LBC Members,

As the year comes to a close, I want to thank two members who are at the end of their terms and are rolling off of the Board Marty McClelland and Ginny Tyler Both have done an incredible job this year and have set things up so the next chairs of Racquets and Entertainment are ready to hit the ground running in the new year We already have a full calendar of events planned for 2025 and ask that you kindly RSVP so the Club can provide the best service possible

As a member-owned club, transparency is an important part of how the Board shares the health and financial wellbeing of the club The Board has discussed how and when to share this information AND keep it for our members eyes only Our Treasurer has created a quarterly dashboard based on our fiscal year that is now published on the Member Portal and will continue to be updated after the close of each quarter If at any time you have questions or want more information, please reach out to me or our General Manager

On behalf of the Board, we wish you a healthy and happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you at LBC over the holiday season and in the new year.

Sincerely,

FITNESS SPOTLIGHT

Featuring Amy Scheinler

Amy Scheinler, has always been active in the Boat Club tennis programs Learning to play as an adult, she has enjoyed the club’s clinics, fast feeds and private lessons Typically playing four/five days a week, tennis has been her primary source of exercise over the last couple of years

Check out the Racquet Sports Warm Up routine for members to follow to prepare for matches and minimize risk of injury. A video and flyer are available via the website as well as in the Fitness Center.

This past year Amy decided to commit to the Elevate Fitness classes offered through the Boat Club She now works out three days a week in the program that focuses on strength training, cardio, and core She said she felt stronger and more fit but a recent physical revealed she truly was in better shape

A year-over-year body composition study showed a decrease in weight, a decrease in percentage of body fat, an increase in muscle mass, and an increase in grip strength (grip was above average for females in her age range) Her doctor was thrilled with the results, explaining the importance of maintaining muscle mass and healthy weight as you age Amy was excited to get “good news ” at the Doctor’s office, which after turning 50, has been harder to come by

Aside from feeling better and the results on paper, Amy says one of the best things about joining the classes has been the people she’s met, most of whom she’d never meet on the tennis court. “Classes are hard, but we still manage to have fun and share some laughs They’ve become my little workout family which is good for my soul as well as my body ”

Amy's daughter, Ellie, frequents the classes when on break from the University of Tennessee Her husband R C and son Jacob both use the Fitness Center on a regular basis and R C tries to make it to class when his work schedule allows The Fitness Center has been a great perk of membership for her entire family, especially now that her children are older
