It’s been a good summer season and we have had some great Member Events, and we also have much planned for the Fall and Winter months, so be sure to check the newsletter and weekly updates
Dog Day at the pool on the 24th was a huge success with about 30-35 dogs and their “parents ” Both dogs and parents had a great time and “behaved themselves!” The Jimmy Buffet/Parrothead Party did have some strong competition but the 40-plus people who attended had a really fun time, “paying homage” to the special man
Never forget that Members are the lifeblood of this, and any other, Club Please help grow that Membership by referring your friends, family, and business associates It is your right and responsibility to help grow the Membership Roster As an incentive, you, the sponsoring Member will receive a $500 Food credit
At the recent Board meeting, a decision was made regarding the Food and Beverage Minimum As of October 1, 2023, we will no longer “roll over ” any unused minimums to the next cycle. This decision was not made lightly, so please come with family or friends that one extra time and use that minimum so that we help the Club and the F & B Staff
Additionally, we addressed the “Walk-on” requirements for Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Courts In recent years, due to the availability of online booking, the LBC walk-on rules for indoor tennis and pickle have become “blurred” No online same-day bookings for walk-ons will be available prior to 8am that same day As of October 15, a ‘’walk-on” will only be considered by calling the Pro Shop after 9am the same day If you make a reservation online you will be charged the posted court fees
By now, you have all received and read President Campbell’s letter. Yes, the time has come and, yes, I am going to finally retire to go home and eventually play golf, once my arm has healed However, that process will probably take several months so it will be spring, so my surgeon tells me, before I can swing a club.
In retrospect, the last, almost 12 years have been very rewarding with the friendships I have made and the growth I have been involved in at LBC We have a great Membership and an excellent and loyal Management Team and Staff, that have made my job easier We have accomplished a lot together and I believe that I will be leaving the Club in a better place than when I originally took the helm in 2009!
I must thank the Management Team, Officers, and Directors, that I have worked with over the years and the “Line Staff” for their hard work and support I will be here several more weeks managing the Club and assisting the Board with the Search for your new GM.
I look forward to seeing you all before “I ride off into the sunset ”
Sincerely,
David DruryWhat a summer it has been! Thank you to everyone for making it an incredibly enjoyable summer and participating in all the exciting events that were held throughout the outdoor season. Looking forward, our Indoor season will officially start on October 2nd However, this does not necessarily mean that the clay courts are closing We will try to keep several clay courts running throughout October and if we are lucky, we can have a couple running into November if the weather cooperates
September saw the return of the USTA Kentucky Open to the Louisville Boat Club and it was a success! We had several divisions with sizable draws and a lot of great tennis Congrats to all our winners and thank you to everyone who participated As we move into October, we will be transitioning into our fall/winter schedule with fast feeds, junior clinics, adult practices and prepaid court bookings Please be on the lookout for an updated programming schedule and be prepared for a fun-filled month of tennis
There will be some pickleball excitement in October! We will be looking forward to finally revisiting our member/member Team Pickleball Tournament It will be an exciting day of team competition, socializing, and enjoying the last few warm days of the year outside on the pickle courts Keep an eye out for more information on the event coming soon
Finally, as the weather turns colder toward the end of October, we will start to ramp up our platform tennis season Get ready for some exciting platform play as we look to organize leagues this fall and winter Bundle up and get ready to hang out by the firepit in between competitive matches of platform tennis
Hope everyone is ready for an exciting October on the courts. See you out there!!!
All the best,
