The first smackdown of the season took place at the Boat Club against the Pendennis We had 8 singles matches and 4 doubles matches, please see the report below
Allen Dodd v Doug Grissom This was the first time Allen & Doug had met and the first 2 games were very tight, Allen managed to take the first 2 games 11/8, the 3rd game Allen came out very strong and was volleying to apply lots of pressure Allen took the match 3 0
John Fidler v Josh Watkins This was the first time that both players had competed in a smackdown match and this was a great matchup, there were some great rallies, and John managed to take the first 2 games 11 8, 12 10, and then pushed on to take the third 11 5 Both guys had a blast
Fernando Valdizan v Osman Shariff Fernando started strong to take the first game 11 5, in the second it was 8 7 to Fernando, and unfortunately there was a coming together that resulted in Osman having to stop, therefore Fernando won 3 0
Bryan Armstrong v David Brinch This again saw 2 new guys competing in a smackdown, David having more experience than Bryan and it was David that took the match 3 0 This result meant the match score was 3 1 LBC
Juan Quintero v Jeff Watts Roy Juan came out the blocks quickly to go 4 3 up, however, Jeff used his many years of experience to take the 1st game 6 11 The second was close but Jeff just stayed a little more patient and took the game, the third was really tight and locked in at 7 7, but Jeff managed to stay in front to close out the match 0 3
Mohammad Alsorogi v David Klapheke Mohammad started the match at a fast pace, the game locked at 5 5, then Mohammad pushed on to take the first game 11 7, David came out in the second and changed his game plan and managed to dictate the second game to take it 3 11, The third saw some long rallies and the game was locked at 6 6, David just managed to be a little more precise with his shots to take the 6 11, the fourth game was level again at 4 4, however, David managed to keep his nose ahead and closed out the match 1 3 to make the match score LBC 3, Pendennis 3

Doubles Results :
The first match saw Jack Carlon back on court after an injury so it was great to see him back playing for LBC He was playing with Mohammad Alsorogi against Jeff Watts Roy and David Klapheke, This match was 40 minutes of continuous play and had some great exchanges, It was Pendennis that managed to win 42 50
Next up was John Moremen playing in his first smackdown for LBC with Kent Westberry, they were up against John Mascarich and Bruce Blythe, this match was so close all the way through, only 1 point in it all the way through! I do have to give a special shout out to John as he did a lot of great retrieving, it was the Pendennis pairing of John and Bruce that manage to win by 2 points 48 50
The third doubles match saw Christian Juckett and Sam Aguiar taking on Osman Shariff & Doug Grissom, there were some great rallies, however Doug injured his calf not long into the match so the Pendennis put in Robbie Foust to replace Doug, Osman and Robbie managed to come through to win the match 28 55
The last match of the evening saw P A Howard and Fernando Valdizan play Henry Kelsey and Ozair Shariff, this last match we played the best of 3 games, and the first game was tight with Henry and Ozair just taking it 13 15, the second it was 10 10 but then PA and Fernando pulled away to take it 15 10 The deciding game was tight however it was PA and Fernando that came through to win 15 13 Doubles match score LBC 1 Pendennis 3
After the matches, both teams had dinner upstairs and we awarded the trophy to the Pendennis, we will have the return leg in the new year and hope to take the trophy back!
Well done to everyone and especially all our new players
