Can you believe it? May is here, and we ' re bursting with excitement as we dive headfirst into an incredible summer ahead As you read this, Derby week is already in full swing and our Great Boat Race Party kicks off the festivities on Wednesday, May 1st! And that's just the beginning Get ready for Thurby, Oaks, and Derby dinner specials, plus our Derby Brunch event But wait, there's more! Circle May 12th on your calendar for our grand Mother’s Day Brunch Be sure to make your reservations today!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at our Spring Wine Festival With over 80 enthusiasts sampling 37 wines from 6 different vendors, it was an absolute smash hit. Save the date for our next Cru Society event on Wednesday, May 22nd Stay tuned for more information

Our team has been going full throttle, gearing up for the season ahead We've been making some muchneeded upgrades, including baby pool repairs, which will help tremendously with the clarity and cleanliness of the water We are also in the process of repairing the geyser feature, which has not worked properly for the past few years And guess what else? We've got a shiny new diving board and stand in the works!

Still mapping out your summer plans? We've got an array of camps for all ages, from the Rafa Nadal Academy to Intensive Squash Training and Multi-Sport camps Concurrently, registrations for our swim team are in progress, boasting exceptional coaching staff For inquiries regarding these programs, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at Srussell@louisvilleboatclub com

While new memberships took a breather in April, we ' re already seeing a surge in interest and tours You, our incredible members, are the heart and soul of our club – help us spread the word! Don’t forget that we offer a food and beverage credit equal to 10% of the initiation fee paid to you for sponsoring new members.

Our racquet programs are on fire, with Travis leading the charge to get those clay courts ready for action Notably, we are excited to be hosting the NSL Derby City Colts versus the Nashville Crushers on Friday, May 17th, followed by an opportunity to practice with the NSL pros that Saturday Reach out to Lee Scott for all the details!

There's more excitement on the horizon as we ' ve welcomed two awesome new additions to the team! Say hello to Sarah O’Hara, our wonderful new dining room manager, and Egor Bogdanovic, our ace assistant tennis professional. Be sure to give them a warm welcome when you see them around!

The beautiful weather is finally here and we are ready to start our outdoor season Our clay courts are officially open and have been getting plenty of use Our outdoor pickleball courts are now fully open as well and have seen a ton of traffic throughout the end of April Without further ado, let’s get right into what’s in store for the racquets and paddles world at LouisvilleBoatClubthisMay

The LBC Racquets division would like to take a moment to introduce our newest member to the Louisville Boat Club team, Egor Bahdanovich Egor was born and raised in Minsk, Belarus, and played Division 1 college tennis at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science He has several years of experience teaching tennis to Juniors as well as adults and we are happy to have him joining our tennis staff Please give Egor a warm LBC welcome and contact him at ebahdanovic@lousivilleboatclubcom if you are interested in taking lessons withhim

With the clay courts officially opening on April 22nd, it seems like we barely had an indoor season this year and I don’t think anyone is complaining about that Mother Nature allowed us an earlier opening day this year and we have been up and running We are continually trying to perfect the clay experience at LBC, so feel free to let me know if you have any issuesorsuggestionsinwhichwecanimprove

ThemonthofMaywillseethestartofthisyear’scountryclubinterclubplayforMen’sandWomen’sA,B andClevels Most teams will start play the week of May 6th and run all the way through August Get ready for some thrilling events! We have a Margarita Tennis Mixer, promising an evening of tennis action and refreshing drinks Plus, a Junior drop-in tennis event, on a FRIDAY night! It will be an evening packed with exciting matches, fun games, and pizza Stay tuned for more details, to berevealedonMonday,May6th!

We will also welcome the start of Summer with our Memorial Day Round Robin on Monday, May 27th. Finally, with the Rafa Nadal Academy camp coming soon in June, don’t forget to register for this great opportunity to train with Rafa Nadal Academy's official coaches This camp will look to improve your game and maximize your competitive potential You will also learn about the positive values that Rafa lives by both on and off the court The RNA camp will run June 10th -June 12th at the Louisville Boat Club and will be open to both juniors and adults Please follow this link to register for the camps: wwweducatennisorg/camps/usa/louisville

This May on the pickleball courts, we will see the return of the men ’ s and women ’ s Pickleball Ladder Leagues on Mondays and Wednesdays Men’s Pickleball Ladder League will run from 7:30-9pm on Mondays and Women’s Wednesday Pickleball Ladder League will run from 6-7:30pm Newbie Night play will also continue on Wednesdays from 5-6pm If you are new to thesport,orjustlookingforafuntimewithfriends,NewbiePickleballNightisforyou

Get ready for another fantastic event, members: Pinot, Pickle, and Pints! Traveling

Junior Squash to compete in the Under 17

Gold Girls Event

Kate Grissom, one of our LBC Zenith Academy Juniors, traveled to Boynton Beach Florida to compete in the under 17 girls event Kate played some very good squash trying to break up the other girl’s rhythms Kate also lost out in a very tight match to the number 2 seed Kate finished 6th in the overall event so very well done

Kentucky State Open

LBC hosted the Kentucky State Open, which is a US squash-sanctioned adult skill level tournament for both singles and doubles. We attracted players and teams from Atlanta, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Nashville to name a few. In the 3.0 skill level, we had 5 of our LBC younger juniors playing including Marshall Thurmond, Avi Patel, Jack Hafer, Trey Valdizan, and Thomas Schafer. There were some great matches on view. In the final Thomas Schriber played Trey Valdizan and the boys had some awesome rallies, it was Thomas that managed to secure a tight match winning 11-5, 911, 11-9, 13-11. In the 3/4 playoff, Avi Patel beat Marshall Thurmond in a tight 3-1 match winning 8-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-4

National Squash

League

The first NSL match of the 2024 season took place in Atlanta with our Derby City Colts team taking on the Atlanta Tornadoes The Colts had Shahjahan Khan (US) world number 51, Joe White (AUS) world 83, and Dillon Huang (USA) world number 108 up against Youssef Ibrahim (EGY) highest world number 16, Jeremias Asana (ARG) world number 84, and David Baillargeon (CAN) world number 41 The Colts battled extremely hard against a team which were much stronger on paper The Tornadoes' man of the match was the Gunslinger Youssef Ibrahim who managed to win 34 points in 26 minutes! Our Derby City Colts host the Nashville Crushers on May 17th when we have Victor Crouin (FRA) world number 11 playing for us, along with Veer Chotrani (IND) current College national champion and world number 109, and Joe White (AUS) world number 83 So we are looking to bounce back with a win - please take a look at our very own Derby City Colts website: derbycitycolts com We have tickets available for our home match to purchase online along with player profiles and the full season schedule You can even buy your favorite player's jersey

We will be continuing with Tuesday night squash and doubles organized by coach Kayzee, for any adults wanting to come down and enjoy some squash tips and great camaraderie please email Kayzee direct

Please consider attending one of ten weekly LBC classes taught by Exercise Science-degreed Elevate instructors Below Elevate owner Chris Thompson is shown with participants at the Tuesday evening Bootcamp Blitz class Other classes include Cycling, Fitness, and Yoga All ages and skill levels are welcome Instructors will assist participants who are working through injury recovery and mobility limitations Elevate also offers additional classes at its Mellwood Avenue facility and online All are included in your regular membership Clubhouse members and guests are welcome at LBC classes for a low fee Additionally, Peloton sessions covering a wide range of physical activities are available for all members on our Cycling Studio TV whenever your schedule permits
