Dear Members
I am thrilled to share the excitement building up as we approach our busy season at LBC The changes we ' ve been implementing are gaining traction and the energy around the Club is palpable There's much to be done but I'm confident we ' re on the right path The future looks bright, and I anticipate some fantastic developments for the Louisville Boat Club this year Personally, I can hardly wait for what's in store
Our recent Member Appreciation Night was a huge success, with a turnout that exceeded all expectations The energy was infectious, and the camaraderie was heartwarming We had over 60 attendees at our second 99¢ Kids Night, 106 guests at our first Sunday Brunch, and 43 participants at the French Cru Society dinner With such a surge in attendance at our dining events, it's crucial that members make reservations whenever possible As our events gain popularity reservations ensure that we can provide top-notch service while managing costs effectively While we'll always do our best to accommodate everyone, last-minute arrangements may come with limitations
Looking ahead, we have an exciting lineup of events, many of which I anticipate will reach capacity quickly Highlights include our perennially popular Lobster Dinner on March 7th, the enchanting Father-Daughter Dance on March 8th, and the debut of Lunch with the Board on March 15th alongside the NEW Mother-Son Dinner Don't miss out on our lively St Patrick's Day celebration on March 16th, featuring a delightful strolling buffet and drinks Additionally, mark your calendars for March 23rd for our March Madness & Summer Sports Sign-up event, and consider joining us for Easter Brunch on March 24th and March 31st Last but not least, we will continue our 99¢ Kid Meal special on Wednesdays through March
As we enter this vibrant season, I urge us all to focus on membership Our community thrives on the engagement and support of our members, and I'm thrilled to see an uptick in inquiries from potential new members Recognizing the importance of fostering our community, we ' re currently offering a 2-month trial membership for those genuinely interested in experiencing all that LBC has to offer before committing to full membership Furthermore, our legacy candidate program extends a 50% discount on initiation fees for your immediate family members while sponsoring members receive a 10% credit toward food and beverage for each successful referral
On the administrative front, the board and I are diligently working on longterm financial planning to ensure we can continue delivering exceptional experiences to our members With your ongoing support and valuable feedback, I'm confident that 2024 holds tremendous promise for LBC potentially marking a milestone in our history
Thank you all for your dedication to our Club Let's make this year one to remember
Sarah Russell General Manager srussell@louisvilleboatclub comWe are only two months into the year and are already seeing an uptake of membership inquiries and new applications Please take advantage of the exclusive two-month trial option for your friends family, and co-workers to enjoy all of the benefits of a LBC membership This opportunity is only available for a short time and is a great way to help grow our club
Last month we offered several new dining additions that have received rave reviews Our renewed brunch service had over 100 in attendance for the first date and families have been enjoying the Kids' 99¢ Dinner Specials on Wednesday evenings Chef Godsey created a fantastic four-course French meal for the Cru Society and will release the new lunch menu this week One of the most important aspects of member satisfaction for clubs is to have excellent dining Our new Chef is making great strides to make LBC one of your favorite places to dine
Our racquet programs are going strong and March will feature Pickleball Madness and a great opportunity for members new to the sport to give it a try with Newbie Nights While the pool doesn’t open for several months, the Swim Committee is already planning the season and we have improvements to the pool area to share in the upcoming months
There is always something exciting happening at LBC!

LBC took on the Pendennis club in our annual smackdown and all the guys had a blast
Single Matches:
Rich Johnson (former member) recently returned from Chicago, rejoined LBC and stepped up on the evening playing 2 matches for us In his first match he beat Orn Gudmundsson 3-0, then in his second match, he beat Jim Martin 3-0, a great performance from Rich Keith Robbins also stepped up as he had not played competitively for quite some time and he played against Josh Watkins, Keith battled hard however Josh was just a little too strong, and Keith lost 0-3 However, it was great to see him back on the courts Wayne Wilson then took on Heyward Harrison this match saw some long rallies Wayne taking the first game 11-9, Heyward then battled back to take the next 2 games 7 and 6, in the fourth Wayne fought back but just got edged out 10-12 Patrick Scheen took on Robby Foust, Robby took the first, then Patrick battled in the second to take the game 10-7, in the third game Robbie played very well and won 11-3, In the fourth Patrick again fought back however just went down 9-11 Next up was LBC’s very own flying Egyptian Mohammad Alsorogi against the French general Michel Cristante, Michel took the first 6-11, however Mo raised his game and took the next 3 games 11-8, 12-10, 11-4
The match of the night was between Jacob Huff and Doug Grissom In the first game, Jacob played some good squash and won 117, Doug then turned the table with some tight forehand play to win 9-11, Jacob then swung the third game 11-6, Doug bounced back again and took the fourth 6-11, So onto the decider and this game saw both guys giving it their all, Jacob just managing to finish it off 11-9 in the fifth game, great match gents Allen Dodd then took on Brazilian Diego Del Col Diego came out the blocks very quickly winning the first 2 games, however, Allen battled back to take the third game 11-8 Diego lifted the pace in the fourth game and managed to take the match 1-3 Fernando Valdizan was the last singles match against Collin English, Fernando dictated the first and second games winning 11-5, 11-7, in the third Collin played some good squash and took that game 7-11, Fernando was determined in the fourth and he managed to close it out 11-6
Doubles Matches:
In the first match, Brent Boland and Dan Burke took on David Klapheke and Jeff Watts-Roy, the Pendennis guys played well and managed to beat our paring 0-3 Next up we had Patrick Fulton playing with Jacob Huff against John Mascarich and Bruce Blythe, the experience of Patrick and the youth of Jacob saw our team win 3-0 The final match-up was P A Howard and Henry Kelsey taking on P A ’ s son Ashby Howard and Ozair Shariff, this match was played in great spirit however it was the Pendennis pair that won 1-3 The match was all tied up in matches, then we went to game count and was all tied up on game count there was no alternative it came down to a drinking challenge and which team could drink a beer the fastest! LBC’s Allen Dodd took on his much younger counterpart in Ashby Howard and unfortunately, Allen lost, meaning Pendennis took the victory
All the guys had great fun and everyone went into the clubhouse for dinner afterward A great night was had by all!
Browne Cup
Louisville took on the Racquet Club of St Louis in the annual Browne Cup, this event is always a highly competitive event, and all our guys love the camaraderie
We take in turn each year to host the event, we played both doubles and singles over a Friday evening and Saturday
All of team Louisville stepped up and played some awesome squash and doubles
I am proud to say that team Louisville lifted the big brown bear trophy
Special thanks to all our staff for a fantastic event
Lee and Coach Kayzee took the Louisville Collegiate team to compete in the national high school boy’s championships in Philadelphia
All the teams are made up of players that are part of our academy here at LBC This year we were the number 7 seed in division 3, in the first match, we took down Groton School 4-3 In the quarter-final, we faced Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, the number 2 seed in the event This match was extremely tight it came down to the very last match and Jack Blythe was locked in a battle that went the full distance! Jack managed to close out the fifth game 11-9 to put Collegiate into the semi-finals
In the semi-finals, we took on St George’s School and the kids played great squash to win 5-2 and move into the final The final was played at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center and against Hackley (New York) the number 1 seed All on the Collegiate team battled extremely hard, the match was so very close 2 of the matches went the full distance and could have quite easily swung either way Hackley just edged it 5-2 We finished well above our seed and all the kids should be extremely proud There were 112 boy’s teams in the tournament and to finish in the top third with a relatively new varsity team is incredible
Special shout out to Kate Grissom as she was the only girl playing in a boys’ team, the MVP award went to Jack Blythe
The Collegiate team was made up of :
Patrick Gustafsson Rayyan Arif, Ward McGill Kate Grissom, Jack Blythe, Jacob Holzer, Cyrus Kolehmainen and Cooper Kolehmainen (reserve) A very special thank you to all the parents who traveled and supported the team all weekend Louisville junior squash is certainly making big strides
