Dear Members,
As we dive headfirst into summer, we ’ re excited to announce that the pool and pavilion are now officially open! However, we encountered a minor setback during the opening weekend due to an unexpected power outage caused by Sunday’s early afternoon storm.
I received a lot of questions as to why we couldn’t open the pool without power that I would like to address Simply, without electricity, the pool pumps cannot operate effectively These pumps play a crucial role in circulating the proper chemicals throughout the pool Rest assured we explored every possible solution to mitigate the impact of the power outage Unfortunately, operating the pool without the necessary chemical circulation would have compromised the health and safety of our members
We’re pleased to inform you that the pool reopened on Tuesday, and we ’ re rescheduling our Memorial Day party Stay tuned for the updated date it’s coming soon!
I’m sure many of you are curious about the status of our new diving board platform Let me provide some clarity Regrettably, there was a misunderstanding regarding the order of the new diving board and stand, which we believed had been placed last October before I assumed the role of General Manager It turns out, this was not the case, and we were later informed of a 4 to 6 month waiting period for these items
Despite this, we proceeded with constructing the platform and are currently utilizing a temporary board and stand kindly lent to us by the University of Louisville, for which we are immensely thankful We anticipate the arrival of our new diving board and stand within the next few weeks. For the summer of 2025, we will construct a duplicate of our new platform, complete with the new diving board and stand Giving us TWO state-of-the-art diving boards
May proved to be a strong month for membership We welcomed four new regular members and one reinstatement Additionally, there has been significant interest in our Legacy program As a reminder, Legacy candidates include siblings, parents, and children We offer them a 50% discount on their initiation fee Furthermore, sponsoring members receive 10% of the initiation fee, which is applied to food and beverage expenses Let’s maintain this positive momentum!
Racquets are thriving, and the outdoor courts are in high demand. If you ’ re still planning your summer activities, we have an array of camps and programming available for both juniors and adults These include the Rafa Nadal Academy, Intensive Squash Training, and Multi-Sport camps For more details on any of these programs, feel free to reach out to me directly at Srussell@louisvilleboatclub com
Lastly, there are a lot of exciting events planned! Be sure to check our calendar and weekly emails so you don’t miss out on the fun!
Thank you for your patience and continued support Let’s make this summer a memorable one!
Warm regards,
Sarah Russell General Manager srussell@louisvilleboatclubcom
Dear Members,
While Mother Nature gave us an unwanted hiccup in our Memorial Day plans, LG&E was able to restore power to the Club more than 36 hours earlier than forecasted. This allowed the club to open on Tuesday and many families enjoyed coming to the Club on what is traditionally a closed day after the Memorial Day holiday Summer is the most exciting season at LBC and June is full of exciting events If you have not been to the pool yet, make sure to take notice of our new diving platform This is the first of two diving boards that will be in place by next season
Please remember to make reservations and bring your friends to show off the best of what our club has to offer If you have any family, friends, or neighbors interested in membership, please reach out to Sarah Russell to schedule a tour.
Sincerely,
Michelle Black White Louisville Boat Club PresidentWe have a busy June in front of us, but let’s briefly take a look back on May During the month of May, we had several events taking place. Among those events was the Memorial Day Robin in which we had a ton of fun. We had two great hours of mixed doubles followed by some mimosas and snacks Even though Mother Nature tried her best to put a halt to our fun, we had a great time with good friends and lots of fun tennis. The month of May also brought us another exciting night of Pinot, Pickle, and Pints We had an exciting night of pickle play followed by some tasty drinks and plenty of socialization. We thank everyone in both events for their participation Looking forward to June, we have several items on the schedule so let’s dive right in
The tennis courts in June will see plenty of action as we have a couple of big events that we will look forward to this month. First up in June will be the Rafa Nadal Academy Camp which will take place June 10th through June 14th This camp is a satellite camp of the same Rafa Nadal Academy located on the Spanish Island of Mallorca, where Rafa Nadal himself trains to compete on the ATP Tour. This camp is open to both Juniors and adults While the adult camp ’ s registration is now closed, there are still spots available for the junior camp The Junior camp welcomes players 8-18 years old. Campers will train with Rafa Nadal Academy's official coaches to improve their game and maximize their competitive potential Campers will also learn about the positive values that Rafa transmits both on and off the court, with the aim of developing the player and the person. If you are interested in having your child participate in the camp, please register at https://www.educatennis.org/camps/usa/louisville/#junior or scan one of the many flyers posted around the club
The second big tennis event that we will be looking forward to this month is the Ed Rhawn/Helene Spencer Cup This fun event will feature several teams competing in a two-day Davis Cup style tennis event, finishing with an evening party on the lawn The event registration is open to the first 78 players to sign up If you are interested, please sign up via the website at https://lbc tennis/ For more information or questions, please contact tcurran@louisvilleboatclub com
Pickleball in June will also see the continuation of the Men’s and Women’s competitive Ladder Leagues The Men’s Ladder League will take place on Monday evenings at 7:30pm and the Women’s Ladder League will take place on Wednesdays at 6pm We will also look to continue our Newbie’s Night on Wednesdays at 5pm If you are new to the sport and looking for an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of pickleball and play against players new to the game, Newbie Pickleball Night is the clinic for you Finally, on Thursday, June 6th from 6-8 PM, we will have a fun organized Ladies Night Out Pickleball event on the LBC outdoor pickleball courts This event will feature a fun night of organized pickle play for ladies with some instruction, socialization, and tasty drinks All levels are welcome If you are interested, please contact Kelly-Marie Bohnert at 502-419-3660
Hope to see you all on the courts this June!!
All the best,
Travis Curran LBC Director of Tennis, Pickleball and Platform TennisOn the next page are pictures of the NSL Doubles Pro-am finalists, from left to right Galen Weiss, Timmy Brownell (USA), Ronald Palomino (COL) & Fernando Valdizan The doubles final was played in great spirits There were some fantastic gets, along with exciting rallies In the end, Galen and Timmy managed to come through beating Ronald & Fernando 3/2
We had a group of our younger juniors that played in their very own NSL team format, each team had the professionals as their coaches The kids had a blast!
Our very own professional squash team the Louisville Derby City Colts took on the Nashville Crushers in front of a packed LBC squash building
This new 3-man-team format (which all started here in Louisville 1 year ago) is proving a major hit with professionals from all over the world We had 6 professionals travel to Louisville from India, Australia, Columbia, England, and the USA Our Derby City Colts needed to beat Nashville 4-0 to go through to the NSL Championship final in Philadelphia on June 21st Our team battled extremely hard, the guys played some awesome squash and managed to defeat Nashville 3-1 It was just not quite enough to take us into the championship final The match was live-streamed on YouTube by a professional production crew A very special thank you to our team owners and all of the sponsors that made this match possible The players also did a junior clinic with the kids and signed jerseys for them The atmosphere in the squash building was electric with the noise levels to the max!
We had one of our LBC juniors Patrick Gustafsson travel to play in a silver US Squash tournament at Mercesburg, PA He competed in the boys under 17 and finished in 1st place, congratulations to Patrick Thanks, Lee
