Dear LBC Members:
We have certainly had an exciting few months recently at LBC and now it is time for a very event-fun summer. Through the Entertainment Committee and member suggestions, we literally run out of weekends to do all things planned and must table some great ideas for next year
I’m very proud of our hardworking management team and their staff especially as the Hospitality industry is still struggling to find solid employees When you see our tennis and squash pros selling drink tickets at the Boat Race Party or Jennifer Kaiser helping out in the pro shop, you know we have dedicated people at the LBC doing their best to take care of the Membership Our new chef, Josh Robinson, hit the ground running in May in spectacular fashion and we look forward to seeing his new menu once he catches his breath
The Board continues to review short and long-term projects for the Club and weigh their priorities to go forward We needed to get through Spring which tends to be our “replace and repair” season before getting too aggressive on long-term plans
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me, pull me aside, or wrestle me to the ground for any comments or suggestions you may have for the Club. I am always interested to hear what you have enjoyed most at the Club and any needs for improvement Also, if you plan on having guests at the Club, please try to give a heads-up to management and staff I want our Members to feel like guests and your guests to feel like Members during their visit
Enjoy, Tom Campbell FromDear Members:
The pool and Pavilion are “ open ” and the Typhoons are in the water! And so are the clay courts Summer is finally here. We had a great month of May with a lot of Member events and of course, the Memorial Day weekend which is always a fun time.
You recently received a “Letter from The President” regarding Membership Effective June 30th we will have a “Wait List” for Full Regular Membership, although the other categories will still be open So, if you have any friends or business associates who may be interested, they need to get their applications to me soon
The racquets programs thrive under the great tutelage of our professional staff and Interclub is always a big part of the summer tennis program Please remember that guests must be registered in the Pro Shop, prior to play so that the appropriate guest fee can be collected Also, a reminder that a non-member may only be a guest 3 times during the season The Board has a fine structure in place which we do not want to use but will do so, to enforce this policy if needed
Ladies, your new sauna is installed and in operation A note of caution, do not overdo the length of time in the dry heat Also please make sure that your teenage daughters under the age of 18 do not use it We know it is tempting!
Chef Josh has hit the ground running and has put out some great culinary delights. We are currently working on new menus which we should have in place within a couple of weeks,
Please remember to check the calendars for the upcoming events so that you do not miss out on the fun
As always, the Team and I appreciate your constructive comments because it is through these that we can improve your Membership experience
The future looks great and together we will accomplish great things
Sincerely,
David Druryparticipants and will be an all-inclusive entry fee of $125. The entry fee will include tournament play, lunch for the players, and one ticket to the “Dinner Under the Stars ” Please sign up in ProShop or register online in the member central calendar
We have lots going on in the pickleball world in the month of June We have had a great turnout at the 1st annual Lou City Pickleball Interclub on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30pm Our LBC pickleball warriors are dueling it out with Members from other clubs and all the matches so far have been very competitive. We also have had a great turnout for our Wednesday pickleball league play, with all the outdoor courts being filled with picklers Our 1st annual Futures Pickleball Summer series, Round Robin play featuring picklers from age 13 to 24 will take place at 3:30pm on June 10th and 24th as well as July 8th and 22nd If you want to come out and watch some of the best juniors in town playing pickleball, come out down the LBC pickleball courts on those dates mentioned above.
Finally, bocce is taking hold of the Louisville Boat Club! We had a very popular Bocce Bellinis and Brews Bocce Soiree on Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend Thank you to our bocce aficionado, Ed Tonini for helping run an amazing event Our Bocce, Bellinis, and Brews event drew quite a crowd, and everyone had fun playing, learning the game of bocce, and socializing. Stay tuned for more bocce events coming up in the month of June as well as a Summer Bocce league that will take place starting at the end of June. Hope to see everyone on the court in the month of June!
All the best,
LBC hosted the very first-ever national squash league match in the country This event was a long time in the making and it did not disappoint We attracted 2 of team USA professionals in Timmy Brownell the 2022 US Champion and highest world ranking of 45, along with Spencer Lovejoy the 2023 US Championships finalist and highest world ranking of 66 Sam Scherl the 2022 Harvard captain TJ Dembenski former Yale player Mark Broekman from England now living in the US and highest world ranking of 130 Dillon Huang just graduated from Penn (Zephans brother) and is world number 155
We held a players and presenting sponsors VIP dinner and a draft night in the ballroom and 3 players were selected to play for team Louisville and team Chicago in the singles
We also held a pro-am doubles event and our own Zephan Huang got drafted to play for team Chicago, along with some other very strong Chicago VIP players
For team Louisville, we had Jay Hatcher, Henry Kelsey, and myself There were some fantastic doubles on show Both Jay and Henry played some great doubles, Jay and his partner made it to the semi-finals as did myself However, team Chicago managed to win the doubles event
The first singles match night was played in a new format with 3 timed legs along with subs and power plays and this made for the most entertaining night of squash I have witnessed at LBC in all my time at the club Team Louisville managed to win by just 2 points! The atmosphere was electric with so much noise coming from the squash building from the spectators This meant the match was now leveled at 1-1 with match night 2 to follow
Match night 2 it was team Chicago that came out on fire taking a very quick lead, team Louisville tried extremely hard to get back on level terms however team Chicago managed to keep their noses ahead to win match night 2 and win the overall match 2-1
The pros played matches and ran clinics for the VIPs, adults, and juniors, They also did a question and answer session with the kids and gave away signed shirts and racquets
A very special thanks to Fernando Valdizan, Doug Grissom, and Sam Aguiar for all their help, along with Louise Valdizan for being our event photographer I also want to thank all of our presenting sponsors and many other sponsors , because without your help I simply cannot bring these world-class events to the Boat Club A special thanks go out to all our members that kindly hosted players This is very much appreciated by me and the players, you always step up and again I can’t run events without your help
Finally, I want to thank all the staff at LBC for all their help to make this event truly first class for the players, the VIP’s and the sponsors The future looks strong!
Check out the Racquet Sports

LBC is proud to welcome the 2023 Country Club Swim Association’s City Meet this summer from July 13-16. One of our responsibilities as hosts of this great swim & dive tradition is to develop the annual meet program.
